Bag Collection Review: Bottega Veneta Spring Summer 2020

Over the holidays, I visited the Bottega Veneta boutique and was treated to a fresher take on older intrecciato weave bags, thanks to the creative direction under Daniel Lee. The brand has been given new life after Tomas Maier’s departure, and has been touted the new “old Celine.” It is important to note that Daniel Lee was once the protegé of Phoebe Philo at Celine 🙂 *P.S. I am one of those peeps who have not entered the new Celine since Philo’s departure. LOL, the new Celine looks like Saint Laurent and to be honest, I’m not a fan– and I’m sure so many feel the exact same way haha*

Anyway this was one of my favorite pieces at the boutique– the large intrecciato dumpling (also known as The Pouch).

Back in September 2019, I was able to catch the preview for his Spring Summer 2020 collection, which should be hitting your neighborhood Bottega boutiques right about now, if not in a month’s time.

This large weave clutch with wooden frame detail in white is known as the Cassette and is a new iteration of last season’s Cassette bag.

The Cassette frame clutch comes in green as well, and note that the frame has that extra gold detail.

I call these the pillow bags, but they’re known as the Padded Cassette bags 😉

The Arco in less structured leather

The knot on this new triangle pouch reminds me of the one from the Loewe Flamenco– does anyone else find the resemblance slightly similar?

The signature Pouch which became every bag lover’s instant favorite last season, now comes with an oversized chain strap. Need to reconfirm though if the strap is for separate purchase or comes with the Pouch.

I love this particular color, as well as its accompanying oversized chain strap in gold 🙂

Here’s a closeup. And no, it’s not heavy at all.

These crescent shaped, more- structured pouch hobo bags have a real nice intrecciato weave. I’m quite interested in this bag and am hoping to see more colors on this when they hit the store floor.

The shoe collection is noteworthy as well. I am really intrigued by these slides with the skeleton metal arch. The twisted intrecciato slides on the far left are very nice as well– I am eyeing that purple one, as I think that would be the perfect summer heeled shoes 🙂

Daniel Lee’s made quite an impression, and the fans of the “Old Celine” have propelled the old Bottega Veneta’s profile into new heights. Can’t wait to see everything here in- store soon, and I’ll definitely make a brief report on whether those metal skeleton-arched heels are comfortable or not 🙂 I zeroed in on those purple twisted intrecciato slides too (top middle)– I think they’d make excellent summer heeled slides, don’t you think?
