What kind of designer baghag are you?

I’m certain that some of you already feel that this designer bag addiction has really become quite a bad habit that’s nearly impossible to break (unless you get yourself sent to Mt. Everest– and we’re not talking hanging out at the base camp *hehe life’s no joke there*). I mean, why are we all into designer bags? Why are designer baghags being “born” (not literally) everyday?

Designer bags are the new status symbol. I hate to be the bearer of the unpleasant reality of this postulate, but it all boils down to who can buy what at what price. I’ve seen Janes who “make it” financially, heading straight to designer labels to get the latest “get” bag. Why a bag? Because the bag is the most obvious thing people see you carry. Sure, you’ll probably want expensivo jewelry too, but for US$700 , you can already sport that “I can afford luxurious things” look without having to flash your finger or pull your hair back * behind your ears* (to show off the newest acquisition– be it a bling ring or earrings) 😀 All you have to do is, go out of your house with your logo-studded bag and go to the nearest mall to debut it 🙂 *Muwahaha I’m guilty of this hahaha Jackie is a label whore*. (Pssst, the funny thing there is, no one knows that the bag I bought was purchased by credit card…*Mrs.T swims in debt hahaha*)

There are plenty kinds of baghags. When I use the term baghag here, I mean “designer loving” baghags. 🙂 Let me enumerate some (and feel free to add on to this list!)

The newbie baghag. So you finally saved enough money to buy a piece of luxury. More often than not, the first bag you want is a bag with a brand that people can easily identify. (Chanel white classic zipped shopping tote) Again, it’s all about projecting that image of having achieved a certain level of financial status to others, that you can afford “luxury” on your shoulder or hand 🙂 It’s not really a bad thing to want to project a certain kind of image. because sadly though, this is one quick way to be socially accepted *although let me stress this– in reality, you don’t need a designer bag to be liked*. (Here’s a tip from my own experience about social acceptance: All I had to do was tie a bone to my neck and dogs immediately liked me hahaha 😀 No need for a designer bag!!)

The logo-loco baghag. These are the baghags who never really “graduate” from being newbie baghags who love logos. It’s been years since they started their love for designer bags (starting off with logo bags), but they never really move on to other styles (without logos). Sit back and think about this for a minute– why do you love Louis Vuitton (if you love the brand)? They produce so many styles (Remember the Pandora’s Speedy bag for the newbie baghag? I swear that bag opens the floodgates!!), but do you ever really step back to think, wait, but the material is the same? (It’s the same canvas with that uber famous logo) 😀 Mrs.T rests her case. Logo-loco baghags, raise your hands 🙂 *Hehe guilttttyyyy*

And then of course, there are those baghags who are not really interested in logo screaming bags. These are the post-grad baghags. They don’t care if people can’t identify what designer bag they’re carrying. (Marc by Marc Jacobs Dr. Q Groovee leather bag $498.00 at eluxury.com) Important thing is, they know themselves that what they own is that particular luxury brand, and that what they have is something they really love as opposed to what everyone just wants because so-and-so celeb has it. These post-grad baghags are the low-key luxe baghags (I wish I belong to this category *sniff*, but I’m just too pretentious! *muwahaha*)

And then there’s the tutti frutti baghag. I shamelessly belong to this group. The tutti frutti baghag loves logo’d and non logo’d bags. But the non logo bags need to be key styles that are identified with the designer brand (aka Birkin= Hermes; 2.55 = Chanel). (Hermes fuchsia 35cm kelly in chevre, inquire with Tresor for price). There is that not-so-subtle need for the brand to be recognized by those in the “know”. But if it doesn’t get recognized by the bag-loving republic, it’s sorta ok too (after all, you still have your brand-screaming bags with logos if you need acknowledgment hahaha).

I think I should even add an extra category called broke baghag. Hahaha these are the label-loving, logo- toting baghags who are on perennial purse ban (a-ha! Me again!). Oh I’d love it if someone would empathize with me on this 🙂 Here. My next bag purchase is the $15 Anya bag. $15– That’s the most I can spend on a bag these days haha!!

Time for this baghag to take off now. Now, share this with me– which baghag are you? 🙂

P.S. Shameless Plug: Please check TRESORMAKATI at www.tresormakati.com for the newly reduced prices of Louis Vuitton bags. 🙂

  1. Hi Mrs.T! Do you know if Goyard Hongkong increased their prices already? Is it still cheaper to buy in the U.S.? how much is the Croisiere 35?

    Thanks so much!

    VG 🙂

  3. Hi Baghag 🙂 I would say i’m a post-grad baghag; I recently purchased the Marc by Marc Jacobs “Heidi” bag. Although I do drool over the occasional icon-worthy bag, being a college student doesn’t really allow for major splurging! Plus, I think it’s nice to keep a little of that retail excitement close to home- no need to be bragging when inside i’m so happy 🙂 Great blog and keep it up!

  4. how about adding a wannabe baghag! hehe those who lust and lust after designer bags but don’t have the money to buy them! wahaha i an one of them!

  8. Hi Mrs. T. Sorry to be off-topic but do you still have some of that Apple Garde and Apple Leather Care Lotion at your store? Spilled some hand sanitizer on the vachetta of my speedy and I’m so upset at the blotches it caused. Hope to hear from you. 🙁
