What a Great “First” Day :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH to the kind souls who had placed their bids on the HERMES Victoria today. We have over 25 bids already 🙂 *Yay!!* I’ll say this– the amount is already over Php 20,000 as of store closing 🙂 I won’t give out the specific amount. I like the suspense of this auction too much haha… I think that’s all the hint I’ll share 😀 *This is getting so exciting!!*

But this afternoon, my high spirits were briefly dampened. Confession: Ok. I was a little affected. Earlier this afternoon, a lady and her friend were looking at the bag “poster” (on our storefront window), and loudly commented that she’d “Never bid on the bag. Because it doesn’t even look like a Hermes.”

Ok. It may be true that to many, the bag doesn’t look like an “Hermes” (if Hermes = birkin or kelly or the evelyne with that “H”). But the auction’s not really all about the bag though… (In the end, I realize I can’t really blame her for that remark because I guess she, like many, would want to get value for her money too)

*Sigh* I think of this auction this way– think of the amount you are willing to shell out on the bag as the amount you are willing to pledge and give to Fabella Hopsital. The bag is just supposed to be your “consolation” prize :). I think that woman was wishing I had given up a Hermes birkin for the auction instead. Hehehehe…

*Shakes head… Hard to please everybody, eh? Sigh*. Oh well, maybe one day if I’m already “financially free,” I can do that 😀 *Seriously though, it’s not that easy to give up something you love or enjoy. It takes so much of you to be able to let go. Baby steps, baby steps!! I’ll get there one day, I hope :)*

This sets the tone for my question of the day (or night): What was the hardest thing you had to give up? And do you regret having given it/ them up? 🙂 Again, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

BIG shoutout to Bryanboy: THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping plug our auction on your blog! It’s really greatly appreciated! More blessings and success your way!! 😉

  1. What an inconsiderate thing to say. As you said, it’s not about the bag but what you are donating your money too. It’s for a great cause (I got her thru Cecile’s site). Goodluck on raising money! And if it makes you feel better I really like the bag 🙂

  2. Big of Bryanboy to help you with your cause I have much more respect for the him because of it. I’m thinking I’ll bid for the missus for the Victoria. It’s sublime and not loud like some other brands. Then for your question. I gave up smoking for my kid. Not exactly a material thing but I went cold turkey- did you ever see that show? It was not easy. I don’t regret it now although I wish I didn’t have to gain a beer belly

  3. The hardest thing I had to give up, on a materialistic level, was my own Holt Renfrew gift card. Holt Renfrew is like Rustan’s in Canada. (I’m not a re-gifter, let’s get that straight. If you spend so much money in the store on Personal Shopper’s Night, you get between $50 to $200 Canadian back in the form of a card, to spend on later purchases.) Anyway, I was invited to a friend’s birthday party and needed to bring a present. Perenially generous, I gave her my $200 Holt Renfrew card because I knew it would have a better home with her than just sitting in my wallet. Thinking about it now, I wish I didn’t let it go. Hehehehe. On a more personal level, well, it would have to be my friend. If I wanted to save my relationship with my now-husband, I had to let my friend go. This is one decision I don’t regret.

  4. And that lady’s comment just proved to me that she’s looking for status. If she’s going to win it, it HAD better look like a Birkin otherwise, people won’t know how much money she’s worth. This way, too, she can prove her self-worth to others. It’s what’s behind the whole auction. You are doing it for a good cause, Mrs T, and self-righteous peeps like them can stuff it! Keep it up!

  5. Hi Baghag, if it’s any consolation, I’m pretty sure the woman who made that comment is not a baghag herself and thus is not well-informed or aware of the various models of hermes other than the birkin or kelly. A true and seasoned baghag who has the ‘K’ to carry around such designer bags would never utter such an ignorant comment.

Having said that, please don’t let it dampen your day, for what you’re doing is truly noble!! To give up such a prized possession for a worthy cause is not something you see everyday. 🙂

  6. Bags nowadays have become status symbols. And what that woman wanted was a bag that would prove she belonged to the “haves” but what she proved with that statement is that she doesn’t have class. If you’re secure about yourself you won’t have the need to show people what you can afford. Just my opinion… Sorry if I offend anyone

  7. Forget those “baghags” who made a remark about your bag, as one of the peeps said, maybe she doesn’t know about this kind of Hermes bag. I guess her info about Hermes is only limited to a Birkin or Kelly.

  8. Only “noveau riche” people comment like that. Hermes was made in a way that it’s not “shouting” to the world that the owner has money. Real class can really be seen on how people react on things.

Don’t worry Ms. Ingrid, you’re too good to step down to their level.

    Love your blog:)

  9. Hi there! I found your online auction through Cecile’s Chuvaness.com. I would like to help by posting your online auction in my facebook account. Is it ok?

  10. dont pay attn to comments like this. i think this is a very nice and very kind thing youre doing. thats number one. as for the bag itself…ITS BEAUTIFUL! classic. understated. just beautiful.

  12. Hi Mrs T., please don’t let that one comment dampen your good spirit. I don’t understand why people need to voice out comments like that—ones that you keep to yourself. He or she obviously was not aware that there are other Hermes bags besides the birkins and the kelly’s. The other thing is that this is an auction, voluntary, no one is forcing anyone to bid. So please keep your head and chin up! Bless your heart— for giving up such a prized possession for such a noble deed.

  13. kindheartedness doesn’t need to involve brand names. your bag is just a lure. it’s already so nice of you to give the Hermes Victoria up, am sure “whoever-she-is” cannot even part with her cheapest bag for charity. this country needs more people like you.

  14. @MaryD: I agree. And thank you for believing in this cause too! And WOW you really gave up the Holt card? That’s really so big of you!! I’d have a hard time parting with that if I were you haha 🙂 Goes to show what a kind soul you are!! 🙂

@Michael Morales: Yes, I am grateful that people share this belief that this cause is great enough to be looked into.

@Anonymous + Jen: Thank you peeps. Just doing my part too. After all, a little sacrifice can help other people too. Besides, I think i’ve been too selfish. Time to take that sacrifice and be selfless once in awhile 🙂

@shoppingpal: dont worry 🙂 I’m no longer upset or saddened. It’s human nature. I totally understand why some people would say such things 🙂

@freshdaisy: I agree completely. But anyway, there are a lot of other people who don’t “get it”. I guess all we can do is just wish that they’d realize also one day and be willing enough to help 🙂

@thedownpayment: Thanks! I think the bag is gorgeous too– very understated indeed, and functional, and neutral enough to be carried everyday 🙂

@AnaCas: Thank you! I did 🙂 Good luck!!!!! 🙂 And God bless!

@urbanfinds + Mav: Thank you for plugging 🙂

    @Chibs: THANK YOU!!!

@KarenG: you can pay via paypal should you win 🙂

@brown eyed girl: Yep agree. Have to focus on the main goal which is really to raise funds for this hospital. Can’t allow myself to be pulled down by comments like that. Anyway, I also understand where she was “coming from” with that comment.

@Petitboyblogger: It’s true actually. Not everyone knows the whole lineup of Hermes bags. So it’s also understandable
