Travelog: The unforgettable meal at Teplo, Saint Petersburg

Hey peeps! So sorry for the late post today. I was actually “down” yesterday (on and off actually) because of a bad tummy *hahaha involuntary diet* which was a result of a very oily meal *shudders* I had in a local Japanese ramen place the night before (if you were reading my tweets, you’d know it was at the Ramen Nazi of Makati, Ukokkei).
Anyway, I am much better today despite my continued jetlag. I haven’t been back a week yet, and I guess the older you get, the harder it is to get over a jetlag. So there. Last night, I attended a press launch for Spanx– yes, they’re finally here in Manila, and after seeing the line, I can really tell you that Spanx is a mom’s best friend hahaha (forget diamonds, when it comes to our bodies post- partum, Spanx is really our best friend hahahaha). More on Spanx soon. Let me continue where I had left off the other day– Saint Petersburg! More to share! 🙂
One of our most wonderful meals in Saint Petersburg was at this local eatery called Teplo (pronounced Tip-Lo).
It had a very homey atmosphere. So different from Tvrandot but equally wonderful 🙂
Saw that map there? All those flags are representative of the citizens of the countries who have already eaten in Teplo. Note the Philippines– NO FLAG! So we were about to be the first 😀
The menu
The people behind Teplo are very, very creative.
Our meals:
Mushroom julienne with 3 types of mushroom. THE BEST!!!
Potato pancakes with “buko” cheese (no not coconut cheese), caviar, and salmon– also excellent!!
Gorgonzola cheese, baked pear, nuts. Loved this dish as well. Pairings were wonderful.
Served with mint green tea. So refreshing. I’d like a glass of that right now in this scorching Manila heat!
Nothing unusual about this soup– pumpkin soup with pine nuts, served with brioche cheese toast.
And for my main course, I went a bit overboard (hello, gastronomic adventure) by ordering Roast lamb’s liver with red wine sauce, cowberries, and mashed potatoes.
Don’t get me wrong. It was very good, but after a few bites, I felt it was too “rich” to finish, so I didn’t. Plus hello uric acid!
Grey mullet with baked potatoes. DH said this was excellent. Simple, and excellent.
DSIL’s halibut with pistachio sauce and green asparagus. We both looooved this. I had to have some of that. Pistachio sauce… it was really good. I wish I had ordered this instead of my lamb’s liver *shudders hahaha*
Roast veal with forest mushrooms and potatoes. I didn’t really see those forest mushrooms, but anyway, both my DBs contended that the veal was cooked perfectly. And tasted great too.
DM had chicken fillet with mango sauce which I forgot to take photos of, but since she loves mangoes, she naturally said that was the very best chicken fillet she’s ever had 🙂 🙂
The famous napoleon of Teplo.
And a slice of cream cake, which I normally wouldn’t eat (I’m not into sweets), but oh wow, I loved it. Every single bite of this cake was sheer heaven. 🙂
And before we left, we planted our flag into the Philippines on their world map 🙂
So to the future Filipino tourists in Russia, when you go to Teplo, know that we were there too– first 😀 hehehehe.
x
