Travelog: The Agra Fort

A visit to the Agra Fort, a UNESCO world heritage site, was in order after we had gone back to our hotel to have breakfast post- Taj Mahal. The sudden downpour of rain also called for a nice warm shower and change of clothes.
Originally a brick fort, the walls were later built with red sandstone from Barauli area in Rajasthan. The fort was completed in 1573 and still stands magnificently albeit weathered and damaged in many areas (thanks to Shah Jahan) today. Shah Jahan was imprisoned here by his own son Aurangzeb here at the fort.

Massive red structure with stylized arches all throughout

It’s hard not to be in awe…

Pillars

See some of those ornately painted arches? Amazing that it is still around for visitors to appreciate today!

Monkeys like this little guy were part of the scene in India 🙂

Roaming around the Fort with visitors from the world over
That marbled part of the fort was built by Shah Jahan– in keeping with his preferred theme of white marble inlaid with gold or gems (think Taj Mahal).
It rained again, but very briefly, so I wasn’t able to walk to the marbled pillars

It was refreshing to just sit down and take in the scene. I still had to pinch myself that I was actually in India partaking in this visual feast!

Grateful and at peace… 🙂

I got adopted by this lovely Indian mommy 🙂 Hehe I can stay with her next time I come back 😀

She is the nicest lady, really! Will never forget her 🙂

With one of, if not the oldest guide of the Agra Fort 🙂

Daphne and I had to take a photo with him 🙂

I have many more photos to share from the India album! I’ll be putting together an “outtakes” post for all that so I can share a lot more of them with you and make you all feel like you were with us on our trip 🙂

Hope you’re all enjoying the India travelog so far!
