Travelog: St. Andrews, Scotland

After quite a drive from Glasgow, finally arrived at St. Andrews. To the golf fanatic, this is heaven as this is the birthplace of golf. To me, this is not only the birthplace of golf, but is also where the romance between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge began– at the University of St. Andrews 🙂
We explored the golfing side of town as we had a nice lunch at the club by the Old Course. And then we headed straight to the St. Andrews Cathedral which now lies in ruins– magnificent ruins I might add.

St Rule’s Tower

Oh this was our guide and his name is Robin. He’s a true Scotsman 😀 Kilt, tam-o-shanter and all 😀

I am amazed that Robin was not even cold that day with his kilt! 😀
Explored the surrounding areas of the ruins. Interesting historical fact: this town was actually once the ecclesiastical capital of Scotland before it fell after the violent Scottish Reformation.
It was a cold day, with the sporadic peeking of the sun from the clouds 🙂
I left my outer coat on our bus, thinking I’d be able to brave the cold. Wrong! Oh this is my Tod’s “diaper” bag 😀
How not to fall in love with the borough with this view?  From the cathedral grounds, we walked by the “coast” toward St Andrews Castle.

After we toured the St Andrews Castle and the remains, we walked back to town– where the Old Course was. On the way, we passed by some of the student halls of the University of St Andrews. One of the resident halls was St Salvator’s– fondly known as Sallies by the students. Also this was the very same hall where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stayed a bit (it was their “home”) while at the University 🙂

Sallies 🙂 Good memories for William and Kate!

Passed by a few more buildings like this one.  Wasn’t sure if this also housed a university department or not, but wow, it’s a beautiful building (I’d love to have this for a house! Allow me to dream! :D)

I knew we were near the course again when I saw this 🙂  The Ladies’ Golf Union! I love that they decorated the entrance with women’s golf shoes, with plants and flowers 🙂

You know us women and our shoes 😀

Such a beautiful afternoon it was! 🙂 More on St. Andrews in the next post or so.

P.S. Thank you SWIDE Magazine for featuring my participation with Lomography during the Dolce Gabbana SS2012 show 🙂
