Travelog: Serious Art Attack in Saint Petersburg

Gawd, I’ve been so delinquent with blogging (like long posts). No, it’s not because I haven’t been going online– in fact, I have been, more than ever. But the thing is, I’ve been using the iPad 🙂 Yes! DH got one as a present and guess who had the smarts to test- drive the gadget? *haha*

Anyway, the trouble with the iPad is, you can’t really do any kind of blogging with photos. But internet surfing’s been a blast on the iPad. Sooo, if your main purpose really is to surf the net, check emails, tweet, or read books, then I highly recommend it. It’s so easy to type on the iPad. So you won’t get peeved at the word not coming out right as you type them.

Moving right along, here are more excerpts from my travels to Saint Petersburg. I actually can’t wait for the travelog to be over because I miss blogging about bags (and hehe, hence a revelation from me after the travelogs). So without further ado, more on Saint Petersburg (and believe me, there is SO much to see in Saint Petersburg!!)

The Winter Palace and The Hermitage. These are the two most important places you need to see when you are in Saint Petersburg.

Chandeliers abound!

This was supposed to be a working clock with that peacock spreading its wings (there’s also an owl on the side which is not seen from this angle)! Unfortunately it was damaged during transport. I believe this clock served as inspiration for the centerpiece in the restaurant Tvrandot in Moscow.

Look at the interiors of this palace. It’s really unparalleled. Quite hard to top something this beautiful.

Look at that– rooms upon rooms upon rooms of richness… it’s endless!!

By richness, I mean this– artwork by Leonardo Da Vinci. Unlike the Louvre, you can actually come up close and personal with these priceless works of art. For an art lover, this is a dream. A big dream.

Another very famous Leonardo Da Vinci painting, Madonna and Child.

The halls looked like the halls of the Vatican Museum.

Painting by Rafael.

This is what I know now– if you want to look at serious works of art by masters, Saint Petersburg is THE place to go.

Michelangelo

I had to take a photo of this because it was MASSIVE. It may not look like much but this is over 5’8″ tall. Take my word for it. This rhodonite basin is just HUGE!!

Amazing Lapis lazuli table and Urn. Something like this nowadays would probably set you back by, oh, I don’t know, like 500,000 EUROS??? I’m telling you, for the average person who knows nothing about stones, this might just look like another ordinary table, but I will tell you, these tables and urns can cost as much as a nice big house in a posh village in Makati City, Philippines.

And more priceless works of art at the Hermitage. These are artworks I’ve only read about and seen in books back in college!! And now I was actually there to see the piece up close. It was surreal!!

Claude Monet

Camille Pissarro. You’ve probably seen this painting a lot. They sell copies of this in Paris– because this painting was of a Parisian scene.

Paul Cezanne. This was my art professor’s favorite artist.

My favorite artist, Edgar Degas. Because I love ballerinas 🙂

Henry Rousseau. I love his work too because it’s very easy on the eyes.

Meanwhile, no love lost for me and Picasso’s work

Vincent van Gogh

Henri Matisse

Was this post serious art attack or what? 🙂 What an experience!!!
