Travelog: Off to Saint Petersburg!

We took Aeroflot to Saint Petersburg. Mom had initial fears of us taking a small plane, but surprise surprise, Aeroflot’s plane was big, and service was excellent!

Food wasn’t too bad either.

Russians love their cranberry juice 🙂 So I had to have some!

Leather seats and very wide legroom.

Hmm… I don’t think they make leather seats on planes anymore… or do they? I don’t remember. But my guess is this plane is already quite old.
Apart from us, there was only one other person in business class. And he was a HUGE guy. Like over 7 feet tall! *Afraid*.

When the plane landed at the all snowed- up Saint Petersburg,

DM asked the flight attendant who he was, if he was an actor. Our lovely flight attendant told us his name was Nikolai Valuev.  And he was a WBA heavyweight champion boxer from Russia. He is 7’2″ tall.
We rode on the same bus that took us to the airport terminal. I mustered the courage to ask him for a photograph, and then introduced myself and my family, that we were from the Philippines and we have Pacquiao (hahahaha, serious! I did this!). And then he nodded, said it was ok to have his photo taken with me,
then continued to say that Pacquiao is a great boxer.  (Sorry I had to put the heart on my face again– this photo is just meant to show you how small I look next to him :D)
When we got out of the terminal after being greeted by our most wonderful guide, Tanya, we headed straight for the Peterhof (I can’t for the life of me find the Peterhof photos in my files!! Eeks!!!).
CV Travel booked us at Grand Hotel Europe, run by Orient Express. It’s located along the Nevsky Prospekt– a very convenient location for everything. The hotel has played host to the likes of Crown Prince Frederick and Princess Mary of Denmark, Pavarotti, Arun Nayar and Liz Hurley, as well as other famous public figures like Bill Clinton and other Russian Presidents.
Our room– notice that tabernacle- like table by the foot of the bed. That’s the tv 😉 It’s kinda cool that it comes up with the touch of a button by our bedside. There goes the little kid in me– I played with it for a bit haha *they don’t have this in my side of the world, so allow me to indulge… and no, I didn’t break it hahaha*

The bathroom

It may not be the Ritz Carlton, Moscow (I think we got spoiled there with the rooms and bathrooms hahaha), but this is the best hotel in Saint Petersburg. Oh, and I must say, the people in Saint Petersburg are much, much nicer 🙂
