Here are some souvenir suggestions for you should you go visit India π
Boxes made from camel bone. Not cheap, but wow, so nice. No camels were harmed in the making of these boxes. Apparently they make these boxes from bones of deceased camels. You can find these at handicraft shops– and there are plenty of them around.
I love the intricate paintings on the boxes.
Fabrics…
I had to get an Indian sari. Couldn’t resist! Now, will I wear it? I hope so! But when? Who knows! π The price was really reasonable so I had to take it :).
Not that hard to fold the sari, but yes, inner pants seem necessary π |
All I need now is a bindi π
My Indian welcome photo π |
More fabrics. I should have bought, but then again I don’t really have clothes tailor- made that often.
Meanwhile, Daphne was “drowning” in yards of fabric π Daphne told me that I should be getting fabric to dress up my home– kinda like what her sister-in-law did to her apartment in New York.
Anokhi, Daphne’s favorite shop, had beautiful fabrics. Made me wish I hoarded! π
I like the bottom left print |
Anokhi doesn’t just sell fabrics, Anokhi also sells caftans, tunics, accessories, as well as beautiful things for the home.
I love floral prints… |
And then of course, there were the jewels… jewellery shops are practically everywhere. But do your research on jewellery and stones before you hit the shops.
A bold necklace with a prominent center stone
An emerald cabochon center stone would be perfect π |
A pair of statement earrings
Emeralds, diamonds, and pearls. I’d have loved this pair of earrings, if there were no tassels |
With bold, big stones for maximum effect
Rubellite earrings with opals and diamonds |
Ahhh so many things to get in India, but in the end though, we weren’t really able to get much because all of our time went to sightseeing. So when we finally decided to do our serious “shopping”, the shops were all closed because it was India’s Independence Day! *I kicked myself for not having bought more souvenirs earlier in our trip when we had the chance*
No worries, I know I will be back in India again. I’m already egging CV Travel to come up with an India tour before the year ends– or at least early on in 2012 π
