Thebaghag celebrates a Special Woman’s 80th!

Yesterday was Mrs. Imelda Marcos’ 80th birthday. Now before I write anything further, I just want all to read this post with an open mind, as I really don’t want to get into any political discussion ( Please, I know nothing about politics so I can’t talk politics :D).

Anyway, so last night, this baghag was among the 830 people to be invited to the birthday party of Mrs. M which was held at Sofitel Philippine Plaza’s Grand Ballroom. I happily wore my past past (or is it past past past) season *snicker* Valentino cocktail dress– and let me openly note that this is my first and last Valentino dress (unless Mr.V himself gifts me with this pink petale coat, which I’ll gladly accept hahaha)Gawd, I wish I had a closetful of beautiful Valentino by Mr.V himself. Alas, that’s not written in the stars and is not to be. So I am content wearing my seasons- old dresses 🙂 I like “recycling” my clothes (think Balenciaga dress equation 😀 Now THAT was worth it in the end hahaha). I just pray that I will still fit in them in 5 to 10 year’s time *wishful thinking??*

Anyway, pffffft… I strayed from the topic again. Soweee 🙂 When Mrs.M entered the ballroom, she was swarmed. News reporters, tv cameras, wellwishers…. It’s still quite a sight to see.(Ces Drilon interviewing Mrs. Marcos)

One of the guests at the party was former Indonesian First Lady, Dewi Sukarno. She is of Japanese descent by the way. She’s gorgeous. And what she wore was equally gorgeous. Take a closer look.
*Bling bling!!* She could put Angelina Jolie’s Colombian emeralds (worn at the Oscars) to shame with the sheer size of that pendant. Here’s another photo taken from NYSocialDiary.Com.The emeralds are blinding *Mrs.T wears sunnies 8-)*

We sat at table 32 *snicker.. we’re “family” now? hehehe… ok we’re not but it’s cool to be on this table hahaha*, but subsequently moved to table 33 (where the placecard said “Malacañang/ Executive branch) because our seats got taken when we went out to get our food. (Frenzy at the buffet tables!)
We got a little *correction: Very* upset when we got back to find our seats being occupied by other people because we were holding our plates with food and suddenly had nowhere to sit. *Sigh– and we even left our bags at the table to reserve our “spots”. Oh and get this– I even “reserved” a seat for this person who had ended up giving our seat away!! (Sigh. Some people. Hrmph!) * Oh well… It was a good thing one of our old friends was kind enough to sit us immediately at table 33. In the end though, we still had fun also because we had a good view (we were just a table away from the looooong “Presidential” table 😀 woohoo!)

My seatmates 🙂 It’s a treat to be with Daph and Patrick (together) because I hardly get to spend time with them as a “couple” 😀 And they’re really so sweet together!

Also saw some industry friends at the event 🙂

Here was Mrs. M and her grandkids. She doesn’t have any granddaughters, but has 8 grandsons! Only 4 made it to the event (I think the other 4 are out of the country)

Mrs. Marcos was thoughtful and sensitive enough to ask everyone to say a silent prayer to our ailing former president, Mrs. Cory Aquino (thebaghag’s prayers also go out to her family at this difficult time).
Son Bong Bong made a wonderful speech about his mother, while Imee made a short documentary about Mrs. M. What beautiful “gifts” her children gave her! These are priceless…

It was a great party, and I was glad to be able to take part in it as a guest. It was really a privilege. After all, you only turn 80 once– and 80’s a pretty grand number, making it one excellent reason to celebrate– whether you are Mrs. M or not 🙂

Happy Birthday, Mrs. Marcos!!!

P.S. In case people are curious, I was told Mrs.M’s big birthday bash was thrown by friends and her loyal *VIP* supporters. Mrs. M was just the guest of honor. (And so was Mrs. Sukarno :D)

*Woohoo social mountain climbing is certainly a good sport– it’s the least strenuous workout, I tell you! Hahaha :D*

P.S. Happy birthday DK! Lots of love! 🙂 xoxo

  1. oh, so nice! i wonder if she still have lots of shoes!! lol.

  2. bongga si dewi sukarno. isn’t she the one who got into a catfight with minnie osmena? hew jewels really put angelina to shame!! (and she looked a lot more ‘rich’ than the birthday celebrant)

  3. You were the belle of the ball! Stunning. Everything was perfect – your hair, your bag, your shoes, that lovely dress that will fit you forever! And ofcourse your stunning JAR earrings!

I’m glad we were together because I wouldn’t know how to have handled that seat-grabbing experience. I mean, 8 months pregnant with a plate full of food and no where to sit. Unbelievable.

  4. *Sigh– and we even left our bags at the table to reserve our “spots”. Oh and get this– I even “reserved” a seat for this person who had ended up giving our seat away!! (Sigh. Some people. Hrmph!)

WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. WAS THIS PERSON WHO GAVE AWAY YOUR SEAT A RELATIVE OF THE FAMILY? OR DID MARCOS RELATIVES TAKE YOUR SEATS? NEVER MIND BECAUSE THIS PERSON HAS NO RIGHT TO DO THAT. EVEN IF HE/ SHE IS A RELATIVE. AND ISN’T MISS DAPHNE GIVING BIRTH ANY TIME ALREADY?
