The “Kaiser”, Unmasked + Chanel

One of the biggest assets of the global fashion industry is Karl Lagerfeld. I doubt anyone would contest that. But apart from practically never seeing the “gloved” one ungloved, hardly anyone has also ever seen him without his trademark glasses!

So when I saw this photo, I had to do a double take. This was the first time I saw the Kaiser “unmasked”.

Would you have been able to pick him out from a crowd if not for his impeccable sense of style? 🙂
Of course that was a brief moment brilliantly captured before Karl became the “Karl” we all know so well 🙂

I adore Karl Lagerfeld (who doesn’t?). He is truly beyond brilliant. And he was definitely 100% nice.  I was deathly afraid of him before being introduced to him (like I am with Anna Wintour haha– I mean come on, they are larger than life, no?), so I shall never forget having had a very pleasant conversation with him at the Hogan party during Paris Fashion Week where I was introduced to him as a bag blogger (KC of Hogan, thank you so much for that memorable night of having had time with the legend!).
Karl Lagerfeld is of course not only the designer with which the brand, Hogan has collaborated with, he also designs for his own label, for Fendi, and most notably for Chanel.
This Fall, the Chanel “Boy” bag makes it debut in Chanel boutiques worldwide.

Many of my bag- loving friends who had seen this bag had said they were not used to seeing Chanel bags designed this way. The thing is, we’ve all come to expect interlocking Cs and a classic quilt design when someone mentions “Chanel bag”.  So a little change is always good. I like that the bags look like hardbound books when laid flat (the white and the brick red one do, right?). It’s a nice change as well to see this antiqued brass hardware (so unlike the shiny gold ones of the classic flaps).
I’d like to test-carry one of the smaller bags from the collection (it looks like it makes for a nice evening bag)– oh and yes, there’s the matter of “price” as well haha. But I definitely like that this bag is not as easily identifiable (due to the more clever placing of the brand “Chanel”) as compared to its older “sisters”. I love that there is a vintage quality to the design, and though it’s new, it already looks as if it’s had quite a bit of history, a very meaningful one at that 🙂
The Chanel Boy Line hits the Chanel boutiques very soon (if not already :D)!
