Still Hoarding…

As I add another year to my age this week *dread dread… flabs and wrinkles everywhere… yuck!*, I realized something– I don’t think I have “grown” up yet.

Ok. Actually, I have NOT grown up At All…

I have another confession. I was cleaning my things tonight and started putting together “stuff” that I’ve accumulated over the past few years of my married life. *muwahaha a.k.a. junk*

I have only been sifting through a few piles of small, old boxes in our storage room for a good 40 minutes and I’ve already so far gathered this.I just realized I am STILL unconsciously amassing Sanrio paraphernalia– a habit I thought I had killed immediately after I got married.

This Sanrio hoarding I’ve been doing isn’t that bad… well, technically it’s not like I would already have a room full of Sanrio stuff. Put it this way– good thing I haven’t been buying physically BIG things *which is probably why I didn’t even notice the Sanrio stash I’ve accumulated! Because the things I buy are all quite “small”!*

Hmm… come to think of it, I also still have a few boxes of Sanrio stuff in my folks’ home. In fact, I need to find that pencil box full of vintage Sanrio pencils. All of which I couldn’t bring myself to use when I was still a wee one.

My favorites among the Sanrio characters include: Tuxedo Sam (where is that little fella???),
My Melody, Hello Kitty, Little Twin Stars,

Tiny Poem *Do you remember her? :D*,
and much later,

Ahiru No Pekkle and Kero Kero Keroppi. I took to Bad Badtz Maru too but that was rather short- lived.

Over the weekend, I went with DH and the kids to the Mega Mall Toy Convention and I was just floored with the amount of people who attended the event. The organizers are making a serious killing on entrance fee alone. Most, if not all, focused on Animé and well, a lot of Voltes V, Daimos, Transformers, Star Wars. And then there was a Sanrio booth.

So yes, Mrs.T the hoarder bought a small Sanrio “toy” again for herself. *Sigh… old habits die hard*

I don’t know why I continue to buy Sanrio toys. Perhaps it’s because it is my “comfort” merchandise *haha better Sanrio as comfort merchandise than Hermes, really!! (Shudders)*. Perhaps because it brings back only the fondest memories of my childhood. (On every trip my parents took abroad, they’d bring home Sanrio merchandise as souvenirs for me– pencils, erasers, nailclippers, scissors, stickers, pencil sharpeners, hair clips, stuffed toys, etc)

There was in fact, an incident I still vividly recall– I was about five or six years old then, when my parents brought me to Hong Kong. I remember refusing to walk (we just crossed the street from our hotel– I think it was the Regent Hotel back then *now Hotel Intercontinental* in Tsim Sha Tsui, so it was quite a long walk from the hotel arcade to cross the street). I told my parents that my feet hurt and refused to walk anymore *guffaw… spoiled brat*. That was until DM took me into a Sanrio store that just happened to be around the area. Daddy paid for a Hello Kitty plush toy for me. And guess what, a miracle happened– my feet didn’t hurt anymore hahaha!! My DM told me that I told them “I can walk for a ‘long time’ already.” (With toy in hand :D) *Guffaws*. Never thought that same line would come back to haunt me today– my kids use that line on me all the time now when they’re tired *and still have no toy in their hands* hahaha… But oye, I know better so I don’t budge hahaha… (mean Mommy haha)

So now, I told my DH that for my birthday, I’d like something from Sanrio. No designer bag, and no bling… I know, shocking, right? Haha seeee, I’m NOT high maintenance *keels over after having said that… hahaha*.

But seriously, just something from Sanrio would do ๐Ÿ™‚ Preferably something with Tuxedo Sam on it– a plush toy would be nice ๐Ÿ™‚ *tall order for a birthday gift, eh? :D* (Ok, My Melody would be ok too– but Tuxedo Sam is top priority hahaha)

And with that, I think it’s safe to say that Mrs.T is officially entering her second childhood *muwahahaha* ๐Ÿ˜€

  1. oooh, how this post brings back memories ๐Ÿ™‚ i remember tuxedo sam and tiny poem (they seem to be extinct by now) and of course my all-time favorites, kiki, lala and my melody. as a kid, i used to be so jealous of lea salonga coz she had this sanrio show back then. my dad also used to bring us home sanrio pasalubong from taiwan and everytime he came home it felt like christmas. siiiiigh… i guess you can’t really outgrow it especially if it brings back so many warm feelings.

  2. Awwww! How fun to sift through your Sanrio stash Ing!!! Looks like a treasure trove of Sanrio goodies! Heehee! You should sign up for Sanriotown too! I have a blog there and you can download screensavers and calendars and games! Don’t worry, you are not alone with this second childhood phase! I’m guilty too! Hahaha!

P.S. Remember that Hello Kitty basting brush we bought in Chinatown? My gosh, I washed it in the dishwasher and the Hello Kitty logo got washed out! Wah!

  3. Mrs. T! OMG me too! Major spring cleaning going on. found some ridiculous stuff too. i steer away from them as much as possible, because as you say, they end up as junk. But i can’t resist it. My fave are Kiki & Lala (stationaries & papers), Ahiru no pekkle(LunchBox & stuff), Keroppi, Zashikibuta & Pochaco! I can’t find them anymore..mostly HelloKitty stuff na lang..haayy…childhood days…I wish i hadn’t throw/given them all away.

dang, i want to go to sanrio right now. =)

i am buying for my pinsans & pamangkins but they really don’t care about it as much as i do..HAHA..

  4. Oh Mrs.T! I also hoard Sanrio products until now! My bf thinks Ill never grow out of it ha ha!

  5. I think its also a generation thing… I’m 30+ (not putting the real age here!) and my sisters are 20 years and below but they do not have the affinity with Sanrio characters unlike me… I love My Melody and Twin Stars too… And I still collect Sanrio stuff up to now, hoping that my daughters will like them too. But I think it’s because I want them for myself :).. Thanks for posting this!

  6. when i was 8, i had a pair of hello kitty flip flops that i never used. i would even go to bed holding on to it, afraid that my sister would use it. LOLs…

  7. I remember them, Mrs. T ๐Ÿ˜€ I even had a Tuxedo Sam watch. Unfortunately, and as far as I know, Tuxedo Sam has been replaced by Bad Badtz Maruโ€”notice they’re the same animal (penguin)? My Melody has been revamped into an evil cute one named Kurumi, too! A lot has changed hehe…
