Ok. What’s Up with Designer Bags?

Can I make a confession about designer bags? Of late, I just can’t seem to come to terms with how expensive a lot of designer bags have become and how the quality of some designer bags seem to have deteriorated. Yes, shoddy workmanship 🙁
The photos I am about to show you are of premier designer bags that were purchased directly from the designer boutiques themselves, so the authenticity of these bags are not even something I would question. For now, I will not reveal the brands because I have yet to find out from the brands themselves why these bags were made this way, and where they were really made. I understand that these brands have to protect their reputation (I have altered the true colors of the bags), but I also think we as consumers deserve to know why these bags look the way they are.
The first designer bag is an incredibly wonderful bag on the outside, but  for me to find out  the quality behind the lining of the bag is really mind- blowing and completely unexpected.  It happened when the lining got torn. Ever the curious person, I couldn’t resist checking what was behind the lining of the bag.  And these were what I found:
Paper tapes!!
Paper tapes on the corners of the fabric behind the lining, which no one would’ve seen otherwise unless their bag’s lining was torn and they checked what the bag looks like without lining.
Paper tapes on the corners to secure the stitches perhaps?
A close-up of the paper tapes, which are for sure placed by hand, in very strategic positions along the stitches.
Shocked yet?
Here’s another designer bag someone showed me, which shall remain unlabeled for now as well. Unlike the first bag above, this bag’s stitching is already visible to anyone who takes a closer looks at the bag handle.
The stitches “ran off” to the side of the leather part of the strap
Am I becoming more jaded or would you freak out too? I just find it very disappointing that the price we pay for these bags is no longer commensurate to the quality of bags that these brands produce. Companies who have claimed that their bags were either made in Italy or France should really come clean to us consumers. I have been told that some brands would have bags assembled in other countries, and then shipped off to Italy or France for the “finishing touches”, allowing brands to lay claim that their bags are made in either of these 2 countries. If they were sub- contracting the manufacture of their bags in other countries other than Italy or France, I think we consumers should be privy to that information somehow.  After all, we are paying excessive amounts to buy these designer bags. The price of luxury on our arms hasn’t stop climbing, so the quality of these luxury bags should only get better, not worse.

I honestly hope that there will come a time brands decide to spend more money making their merchandise better, rather than just spend more money on global marketing campaigns to lure in more clients to fatten up their bottom lines. After all, we work so hard to afford ourselves a little piece of arm luxury, and it would be a big shame if the brands don’t live up to the  “quality” expectations of consumers. Don’t we all hate to see our favorite brands go down because of their shoddy workmanship on their bags?
What do you think?
