Mickey’s Delicatessen + Retail Reflection (no purchase necessary :D)

Ugh, my mind can only take in so much human drama for a month. I’ve had the displeasure of dealing with unpleasantries today (and I won’t even get into it or I’ll just end up burying my face in my hands out of sheer frustration. Do know this– one of the unpleasantries was about my passport) but thank goodness the day ended on a rather positive note *beams*.

For starters, I was finally able to have dinner with RDV (we did “overtime” at work hahaha) at Mickey’s Deli along Jupiter Street (too bad EAI wasn’t able to join us– it was her Daddy-o’s boitday :D). Sigh. Frustrated? Try food. *Hehe* I am a depressive eater (although I was anything but depressed today, ugh). No matter, impromptu dinners with a good friend/ friends is always a good excuse to eat heartily 😀 So we ordered Mushroom Soup– while the soup looked rather bland and lacking in the aesthetics department, it is excellent! I have to give it top marks for its fullness in flavor.

Next up was the Caesar’s Salad, which RDV and I shared. It was alright, although it was nothing really great to write home about. 🙁

I ordered the Nurnberger sausages– 6 links, with a side of potatoes and a side of sauerkraut (on the house– for us to try). I loooove the grilled sausages (In fact, I finished all six links– on my own!!! *snort hog*). They were real good. And the potatoes were excellent. By far one of the best I’ve ever had! As for the sauerkraut, I still think I like the ones that are served at Swiss Inn the best.

I also ordered the Spaghetti Aglio Olio e Pepperoncino (I told you I have a huge appetite!). This pasta had a nice bite to its flavor, although I must note the dish was still rather flat in taste. There is flavor, it’s just that it’s not “full” enough for me to merit it as a good pasta dish (although if they only had some black truffles… I can only imagine how good the pasta would’ve become hehe). If you are into pasta, then you’d probably already know that the best way to know if a restaurant can serve good pasta is to try the simplest pasta dish in their menu. This pasta dish I ordered is the simplest in the menu (but actually there aren’t a lot to choose from). But Mickey’s didn’t get it quite right yet. (You should try the aglio olio e pepperoncino of Cantinetta. *Drooool*). Pasta is probably not their strongest suit, but at least the pasta itself was cooked al dente 🙂 *I’m such a hypocrite. Here I am harping about the pasta when I actually finished the dish haha*

RDV ordered the pizza which was served this way– and we both were like “ooooooohhh….” 🙂 It was good Margherita pizza, hands down. We both ended up lamenting that our hubbies should’ve been there to eat with us, as they would’ve appreciated the food.

We couldn’t really leave Mickey’s without trying their Austrian dessert (their specialty)– Kaiserschwarnn. It’s actually less complicated than it sounds. It’s just shredded pancake with Granny Smith apples and raisins 😀 But oooh I tell you, I will keep coming back for this one. It was SOOOO GOOOOOOOD!!!!

Another reason to go back? To try their cold cuts! Oh and the one thing I really didn’t like about the place was the lack of ventillation. It was real warm inside, so I guess it would be a good idea to avoid wearing anything thick or long- sleeved when you plan to eat there.

Mickey’s Delicatessen is located at Jupiter Street corner Orbit Street, Bel-air Makati (very near Tresorie!!)

Speaking of Tresorie, today I was also real happy that I got the chance to sit down and just reflect on my 4 months of retail life (as a sales lady haha). Tresorie is something I’m so happy about because it is there that I was able to see how far my dedication to this retail “project” went. Well what do you know, right? I find out more things about myself everyday! 😀 I can’t honestly imagine being “stationed” in one place for long periods of time (I’m a hopeless wanderer… a nomad at heart), and yet I found myself hanging out at the store a lot (much to my DM’s surprise too– I think she thinks I have a permanent butt sore in that I would find it impossible to sit/ stay still for more than 5 minutes hahaha). But *hehe* thank goodness for the building’s wifi or I would’ve probably had to a.) make up stories (I’d rather be snoring in bed, thank you hahaha) just so I don’t have to be at work (talk about my so-called dedication), b.) start a hobby like eating nonstop for the duration of my stay at the store *which I actually do often, thus gaining a wider bum in the process haha*, or c.) run off to the nearest mall (haha Rockwell) to get pampered at Beauty Bar and wait til it was closing time for Tresorie before I headed back. Bah, while it’s soooo tempting to just play hokey all the time, I think this is the time that I realize I am “worker bee” (sorry RDV, I have to borrow that term haha) at heart *thanks to my Chinese roots hahaha… but one thing that makes me different is, I’m a hedonist. And a bulk of the more traditional Chinese aren’t– they’re so hardworking in that they don’t even know how to enjoy the fruits of their labor until it’s already too late. It’s sad actually, but it’s so true 🙁 *. But this is what I found out about the retail business– it really makes a difference when you are there to interact directly with your clients. Plus I get to do one thing I enjoy– meet new baghags (ahem, socialclimb of course)!! *Woohoo* It’s real funny because I have surprised so many peeps who came by the store– I think they had to rub their eyes when they found me sitting behind the counter. Is it so unbelievable that I’d be the sales lady? *Tsk* Face it, I’ve been retail trained to “stay” put here. *Muwahaha like a good dog :D* I love the result of my retail reflection 😀 It’s validation that I really do real work *not just fluff haha* for the things I buy to spoil myself *hehehe*. Seee, it’s not bad to shop hard, BUT you gotta work hard to shop hard– and I mean don’t end up with uncontrolled debt or failing personal finance reports, ok? Make sure you can cover your expenses with what you earn because it’s really no joke to be neck deep in debt and have this expensive habit… you can look and touch, but at the end of the day, no need to buy, really. You are not any less of a person if you can’t afford to buy the season’s latest IT bag or a nice classic Louis Vuitton. And puhhhlease, let’s not even allow you to entertain the possibility of buying a fake designer bag. Seriously, You can be a baghag too, no purchase necessary 🙂 Shallow bag obsessing is not a sin 😀

Peep peereepep peereepeep…. Newsflash newsflash!! I got word from the US Embassy that my passport was already released with my visa stamped on it. It should get delivered to me in a day or two. WOOHOO that means my trip to the U.S. of A. is on!! And although I love that I am finally able to head out for some good R&R, I also feel terrible because next weekend is the second year anniversary of Doña Consolacion Building (where Tresorie is). There will be cocktails served and a big, big sale happening!!

ANNIVERSARY SALE SALE SALE!!! “THE DONYA TURNS TWO!” We will be taking part in that anniversary sale event, and it promises to be a whole lotta fun, fun, fun. Tinsley will have marked-down clothes, D! Luxe will likewise have some beautiful accessories on sale, and Tresor will definitely have a Special Sale Section which features some brands like Ferragamo, Bally (some bags were not even used and are from just a few seasons ago!), the sale- evasive Louis Vuitton (but there will be at least one or two Vuitton pieces), etc. Prices for these Selected Anniversary Sale merchandise are at Php 10,000 at the max. So it’s really a good time for you to save up for next weekend and treat yourself to something special 🙂 (Instead of buying a good knockoff if you’re already so desperate to have a designer bag, spend the money on the REAL DEAL at our Sale!!). And here’s an added incentive, for the other bags that are not really part of the Special Sale”, we are willing to give discounts if you pay by CASH! Bring Cash, baghags 🙂 I just seriously wish I was there for the big sale to also meet new baghags. Please do go to the event, support my partners. And do tell me all about it! 🙂

P.S. Here’s a photo of lebaghag wannabe modeling my Hermes Victoria (I looked like a friggin’ eggplant so I had to crop my whole head off haha). I think this bag is worth every pretty penny I paid. And boy, I have to let some of my other bags go to pay for this bag!! *Sob*.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your day ahead! Meanwhile, this baghag has to get some shut-eye or I won’t achieve that Gretchen Baretto flawless skin! *Snorts big time* I am a successful grower of acne, how can I possibly achieve positively glowing flawless skin on my face? 🙁 *hehehe at least I am honest about my skin problems haha. And oh did I mention I just don’t know how to put seriously good makeup on? Forget makeup lessons. I took snippets of makeup advice from the best in the industry and each time I try to put makeup on myself, I end up looking like Britney Spears (runny makeup and all- pre Paris Hilton days… or is it during Paris Hilton days?) haha*

P.S. Happy Birthday to baghags StellaF and JacquiY and a quick shoutout to my best friend in Canada, KarenG!!

xx

  1. Hi,

this Austrian dessert is called Kaiserschmarrn (with “m” not “w”) and it’s really good if it’s served straight from the pan with lots of Apfelmuss (apple sauce) and powdered sugar on top. And according to Austrians, it’s a complicated dessert to prepare but it’s a good thing there are mixes (similar to those pancake mixes) available in the supermarket. Love it!

    Btw, love your blog! 🙂
