Judging the Book by its cover *tsk tsk*

I was pleasantly reminded yesterday about a shopping incident which happened some years ago before I got married. It was in HK’s Landmark, at the Manolo Blahnik boutique. I wasn’t exactly dressed to the nines, but I felt deadly pretty in what I wore *muwahaha talk about huge ego*. (Side note: It’s funny how you seem to have to get overly dressed up to go shopping– more later on this). I walked into the shop, picked out maybe 3 pairs of shoes to try. As I sat on one of the chairs, I couldn’t help but notice this somewhat unkempt- looking woman who had about 10 pairs of stilettos scattered all around her. I wondered secretly where this woman would wear the Manolos to and more importantly, I couldn’t help but wonder if the woman would even buy any pair, since all I heard from her were complaints about the shoes– i.e. uncomfy, too high, too narrow… I’m sure you’d wonder too. By then, I had decided on a pair of shoes *which shamefully to this day I haven’t worn– they look too pretty to wear! They’re made with a beautiful brocade trimmed in robin’s egg blue nappa leather. Although sadly by now, the shoe heels developed some mold spots! Horrors!*. As I paid for the shoes, I could only empathize with the sales associates because of the woman who would leave a mess with those shoes she probably won’t buy. I was lost in thought still and hadn’t noticed that the woman was already beside me. My jaw just dropped (and I swear it did) when the woman took out a Louis Vuitton pouch, opened it up, and brought out wads and wads of cash. I’ve never even handled that much cash in my whole life, and here was this lady, counting about HK$50,000 (US$6,500) of them!! SHE BOUGHT EVERYTHING she tried on!!! I was like, turning green with envy *Material girl looks at lady in new light… can I be your new BFF? hahaha*. There I was, feeling every inch a rich woman *feeling rich wannabe* (and I suppose I sorta looked it haha), and I only had something like HK$500 (US$65) in my wallet– and that was the lunch money I had for a week!! I had to pay for my Manolo purchase via credit card *debt debt*! Goes to show– never, never judge someone by the way they look. That’s super important and don’t forget it. You may encounter peeps in the future who don’t look like much, but you’d be surprised they can probably buy countless Hermes croc birkins and you just don’t know it!! Lesson learned: Don’t be a snoot! First impressions do count, but hey, at the end of the day, it’s what’s in their wallet that matters– and I’m not even talking credit card receipts (or I’d top the list haha) *Materialistic baghag alert!!* (Well in reality, it’s what’s in their heart that matters–you know, sincerity is really priceless. That, and breeding haha.)

Perfect example–look at me, I may look rich (or at least I think I look it at times hahaha) and I may act like it *they don’t call me pretentious for nothing now haha*, bedecked in the day’s finery *puke*, but as of now, my wallet only has about Php 375.50 (US$8) inside *bawl I need a sponsor!* So it was only befitting that my friend and Tinsley lady EAI got me these shirts 😀 The yellow shirt is really perfect! It’s sooo ME!! Thanks so much EAI! At least when I wear this shirt, it reflects who I really am *muwahahaha them darned bags!*

Speaking of bags again (since my mounting debt is due inpart to those exorbitantly priced bags *bawl*), here’s yet another bag that won’t get you swimming in a seaful of debt. QTV’s Proudly Filipina *oye, hags, watch her show!!* host DaphP who came back from her vacation got me this tote from Marc by Marc Jacobs 🙂 *thank yeeeew DP!!! the kids loved the loot you got them–and so did I! *
Yes! A Marc by Marc Jacobs orange tote priced under US$20. Is this the new designer bag craze now? A “designer stamped” bag that’s really affordable *think Anya Hindmarch*? If that’s the trend, then I’m really all for it– time to sell allthose expensive bags, and just stock upon these uber affordable pieces! Imagine, all the bag loving women will be able to afford designer bags 🙂 That’ll be the day 🙂

P.S. A huge thank you to GraceC and her “lola” friends for popping by and giving us one whole yummmyyyy duck from Duck King. It’s really delicious!! But there’s no contact information on where to order 😀 Please send me details!

P.P.S. Someone asked me if I buy local bag brands– and here’s my reply: YES!! In fact, in my last 2 posts, I had just remarked that I bought something from FYH at Market!Market! and a metallic clutch at Vintage Restore, Tel. (+63917)857-0900).

P.P.P.S. Matisse is now open at Rockwell Power Plant Mall! They carry the brand Skip Hop, the diaper bag of celebrity moms 🙂

P.P.P.P.S. thefashpack: My culo still hurts actually. I’m due to see a chiropractor. It’s been 2 weeks now and the pain has subsided, but there’s still a lingering pain. Thanks for asking 🙂

More bag reviews tomorrow!! I’m loving this weather… Rain and all 🙂
