Gumps San Francisco

YAHOOOO!! I have free internet access again today (thank you APPLE!). I had pre-scheduled the posting of my blog since I have so much content and stuff to talk about, and with the limited internet access I had, I just decided to keep writing and pre-posting *because if I don’t, I will forget what I want to share with you all. Add that to my “getting- old” sickness– gout, memory loss… hahaha pffft*. But today, this is a real time post 😉

A few days ago, remember I was using internet at Starbucks and I had paid $3.99 for 2 hours? Well when Starbucks closed for the day, I went out and hung out at the common areas in the mall and realized THERE WAS FREE INTERNET IN THE MALL ANYWAY! *Grumbles and kicks myself* (Shoot me, I’m a cheapskate hahaha). So having found out that there was free internet renewed my enthusiasm to turn on the Mac and write again. I settled into one of the couches at the mall and was comfortably positioning myself when my Starbucks Earl Grey Latte spilled onto the couch and onto the back of my pants! *SCREAMS*

Those were my ONLY pair of pants that I had brought with me, and now I had to leave the mall looking like I had a diarrhea accident because the brown stain was just right smack on my bootie. It was naaaaaassssstyyyyyyy!!! *hehehe* (And yes, the remaining shoppers who were at the mall were STARING at my behind). Gawd that was SO embarrassing. I don’t think I will be going back to that mall again for the duration of my trip hahaha. (I couldn’t buy me a new pair of pants that time because the stores had already all closed!!) Soooo the next day, I made it to the nearest Forever 21 store to buy me my second pair of jeans at $9.99 (+tax) 😀 Not bad eh? 🙂 *I just spent on Dr. Scholls, some allergy meds, and a pair of $9.99 pants 😀 Mrs.T’s been reallllly goooood!!!*

Ok annyyyway, enough about my drink “accident” and becoming the Butt *no pun intended* of jokes that night hahahaha.

I am not a native San Franciscan, but I adore Gumps. It’s a very small department store but it’s very upscale. They carry a lot of perfumes, candles, and all sorts of “nice things” from places in Europe and Asia. They also carry beautiful stationary and accept custom- designed invitations (engraved, and ugh, I looove letterpress– but soooo expensive and unfortunately unnecessary right now *sob*)

The store currently has beautiful holiday decor, Christmas trees and all that.I picked out a little zebra ornament only to find out that what I had been holding in my hand cost US$50! *shock*. I wonder how Gumps is doing. That night, a big company (I think UPS) rented out the whole department store for a company party. Imagine the insurance on that party!!

Gumps also showcases a plethora of accessories and jewelry: antiques and estate, asian, as well as designer pieces. If you’re in San Francisco, you can’t miss this store. I usually go into Gumps through the back door at Maiden Lane, a further down from Chanel 😉

After the trip, DM and I were getting hungry so we decided to grab a quick bite at Boudin’sBread Bowl Clam Chowder soup with Tomato Basil Pizza. Daaaang I just realized that I ate tomatoes…. No wonder my feet weren’t too good today. I guess that really means I have gouty arthritis 🙁 🙁 *Looks like my uric acid levels are very high*

Tina: praying for you and baby’s safety!!! keep the faith! Shoutout to Karen, Paz, and Lilian whom I have finally spoken to on the phone. Sorry I hadn’t been able to call in the last few days, girls. MAJOR jetlag. ChristineD you’re next on my “call” list!

  1. I miss that soup with sourdough bread! where do I buy those breads here in Manila (If we do have one…)

  2. You’re sticking with your less purchase mode Mrs T. Very good…

That Starbucks’ fiasco is so funny. I can imagine you walking in the mall with your stained pants.

Craving for clam chowder now. Yummy!

  3. @ Leah: It was kinda gross (pants). And I heard some of the younger kids snickering 🙁 *I always get laughed at hahaha, darnit!*

@anonymous: to tell you the truth, I was only downtown ONCE for this whole trip! I will try to make it to the city to take photos again soon. We still have so many errands to run so we don’t really get to “shopping” til after 5 already 🙁

  4. Hmmm….I always wondered if I’d have a Mrs. T sighting in Union Square one of these days! Then again I only go to the City during the Holidays.

  5. the clam chowder and pizza looks really good…

i have to salute you for being so disciplined in terms of shopping. just read in the papers that the US is a shoppers’ paradise now with so many sales and discounts being offered, with even big brands like tiffany’s going on sale… i’d probably be going berserk if i were there. really!!

  6. Try Slanted Door next time you’re in the city. It’s vietnamese food (pho) and a little pricey considering that you can probably go to a Pho restaurant in Chinatown and pay way less than what you would end up paying at Slanted Door, but worth going just to experience it. Speaking of Chinatown, I miss Ling Nam – talk about old school Filipino Chinese restaurant…

  7. Ugh! I thought for a socialite you would at least dine at Armani Cafe, not the down and dirty Boudin’s.

  8. @armani cafe snoot: ugh i totally resent you labeling me as a socialite. Obviously you havent read enough posts to know im just a socialmountaineer, wannabe socialite. So natch i eat at the down n dirty boudin’s! Besides, it’s a homegrown (sf) place so while in sf, id eat there. It’s cheap, it’s good, and i even spotted one of the Gettys eating there too! And SHE is a socialite! why dont you treat me to armani cafe since i cant afford it there? Muwahahahahahaha

@mld: haha im kinda done w downtown. Dont want to be near irresistable temptation hahaha

@slanted door: im checking it out if not this trip, next. And yeah whatever happened to ling nam? Is it still around in daly city??

@leah, browneyedgirl, pbb: i looooove clam chowder in the bread bowl! They only had the rectangular bread bowls left but it was still just as good 🙂

  9. Let me know when you’re coming back to the Bay Area so I could bring you to the Slanted Door – my treat. I don’t know when you’re flying out – have a safe flight to Manila. Cheers!
