Guesting in a Preschool :)

Yes 😉 You read that right. My Accessory Lab partner Rodina, and I were guests today at this gem of a Preschool in Little Baguio called The Learning Connection.
My friend Julie Peñaloza, who happens to be the co- owner of this school, invited both Rodina and I for their Mommy Academy Day, and we were to demonstrate jewelry making basics! *Yeah I know. ME, teaching. Laughable hahaha I know I’m not really good for anything hahaha*

But oye, I took this task seriously 🙂 *sits up straight with a serious look*. After all, I was going to help little kids and their mommies make fun necklaces, bracelets, earrings, cellphone charms, and keychains! It was going to be a lot of fun.

I had to be at the school by 9:45 am. I know– early! But hey, as I have said, I was taking this task seriously *careeeeer change!!!! hahaha*. It’s an honor to have been invited (thank you Julie and Hazel!). Plus, this was a first for me! It was going to be quite an experience 🙂

I got to The Learning Connection, and realized I’ve actually passed by this school in the past! I thought it was just a summer school for music and arts. And well, my kids were not exactly musically inclined, nor did they show much interest in art back then. So I dismissed the school– but take note, I remembered commenting on how nice the place looked like from the outside. UGH. How I wish now that I had sent my kids to this preschool!!! 🙁 I wish I had known Julie much, much earlier– I would’ve had no qualms sending my kids here!

The school is VERY new and has this bright and airy atmosphere to it, making it very conducive to learning. What impressed me the most about this school is this– the owners are very hands on. I would’ve felt very secure sending my kids here, knowing that the owners are always around to check on them. They even had a little garden and a nice covered playground 🙂The whole place was very well- maintained. Very, very clean. The teachers were all so friendly too!

The Mommy Academy is their “Mothers’ Day” event, where the preschoolers and their moms sign up for an activity of their choice– We were responsible for the “Bling It On” Activity 🙂

The school even had this cooking demonstration by the chef of Ristras (a nice Mexican place off Wilson Street– incidentally, we had lunch there after the Mommy Academy activity was over. It was reallllly good. More on that restaurant soon!:D )Our classroom was bright and airy, and was visually stimulating. (I took this photo after the jewelry- making event was over already… because I was almost late hahaha)

When I got there, there were already 8 pairs of moms and daughters *and one son* :). Anyway, after about an hour and a half of jewelry making, we ended the activities for a nice photo op. In the end, the mommies and their children went home with new necklaces, charm bracelets, earrings, cellphone charms, and keychains 🙂 The children were such a joy to teach, and the moms were all so nice and wonderful! Rodina’s group churned out professional- looking pieces, while my group came up with the more “fun” stuff 😉 *ok confession: I haven’t really made jewelry on my own for awhile now, so I was real rusty hahaha*

I can see myself hanging out with the moms again sometime, but hopefully when that time comes, I’d already have polished my jewelry- making skills hahaha.

What an experience it was for this baghag wannabe. The event was very well- organized. *Sigh* I really, really wish I had sent my kids to this preschool.
