Fendi Baguette comeback?

Calling all Fendi bag fans! Remember sometime a decade ago when the first Fendi baguette came into the bag world? And remember how so many of us had to make a mad (I’m talking serious pandemonium) dash to the Fendi boutique just to get our hands on one? I was one of those pathetic ones. I can still remember the time when a huge photo of a coveted beaded Fendi baguette graced half the building which housed the Fendi boutique in Kowloon (HK)– the side entrance of the Sheraton Hotel (by Nathan Road) had this huuuuuuge photo which stared back at me as I went past it on my way to work. Here’s a little confession– actually it’s not exactly on my way to work, unless I take the MTR. That plus I would go out of my way to walk that path since 1. My shoe obsession back then (Manolos) was a bit outta hand, and the Peninsula Hotel Kowloon housed Manolo Blahnik (go figure haha), 2. There’s the Fendi baguette photo that I soooo wanted to have, so I could “drop in” on the boutique to beg for one should one come around. Here’s the bigger confession: sure I wanted to work in Hong Kong to prove to myself that I can actually be independent (who doesn’t wanna work in HK?! Designer heaven!!!), but I wanted to make my own money so I could buy me the good stuff without feeling so guilty (because I used to leech onto DD so much) *muwahahaha*. I know, it’s cool to be single and be in control of your finances, right? No financial responsibility to anyone but yourself… hehe ok so I was just plain selfish (I’m happy to be married with kids now, don’t get me wrong :D). But hey, remember I have caviar taste with fish ball budget. Someone’s gotta feed the obsession and it wouldn’t have been fair to my DD if he foots the bill all my life. Tsk now that DD is gone, that feeding the “hungry” responsibility is left up to me *Bawl! My spoiled brat act doesn’t work with my DH unfortunately sniff sniff!*. (Psssst! Women of the world, raise your right hand!! *wooohoo!!*)

Wait, ok so I veered away from the original topic again *like I always, always do*. Oh, Fendi. Right! Ok so anyway one day, that coveted Fendi baguette made it to the Kowloon boutique. I didn’t want just any beaded Fendi baguette, I wanted a specific one– the one that made it to the ad campaign, natch. *Sigh* Ain’t it annoying how these in-your-face marketing and ads just have a way of “working”? You have the average sucker- consumer like me, “ingesting” it all! *Muwahaha Mrs.T is a proven sucker… that and a label whore– but you all already know that! Hahaha*. I remember being late for work that day because 1. I waited for the boutique to open, 2. I had to sit and wait for the store manager to offer the bag to me– and believe me, I pleaded my case because it would’ve otherwise ended up in some HK taitai’s hands. Aiyaaahh who knew that one day, I’d end up being a taitai wannabe (hehe close association to a “taitai”– I did use the word “taitai!” *scoff*)? Perhaps if that sales manager knew then, she would’ve given it to me without my pathetic pleas hahaha… right. *Pardon my delusion, but deep down, I know there’s a difference between a real taitai and a taitai wannabe.. hehehe*. Bottom line is, all those weeks of visiting the store on an almost-daily basis paid off. I finally “bagged” my baguette 🙂

So now, the real reason for this post, is that Fendi is about to do a Chanel *that said, is it any coincidence that Karl Lagerfeld is on board both Fendi and Chanel? Hmmm begs the question, don’t you think?* Anyway, Fendi doing a Chanel meant that it’s reissuing a bag style that the house became known for. Yes, Fendi is reissuing the Baguette to commemorate the bag’s 10th anniversary!(Fendi news and photo from W Magazine)

Ok so I had to dust off my Fendi a bit because I’ve not carried her for a looong time, but here she is. *Hehehe noooo, I am NOT selling this baby! Especially not after the Fendi news published in W!*

Here are more photos of the reinvented Fendi baguette. Not exactly THE baguette as shown on W magazine, but nonetheless different versions of the same style– in whipstitched clutch form: big, small, and embellishedThe question is, will it create the same bag frenzy it once did ten years ago? It remains to be seen come Spring 2008. Meanwhile, thank goodness Fendi decided to rework something other than the Spy. The Spy has been done to death and I’m already getting rather annoyed that Fendi kept re-embellishing it. No offense to Spy fans out there with that comment, but in fairness, I still love it in the plain solid colored leather (I also found the denim embroidered quite charming), just not any other way.

Christmas Countdown: 22 days before Christmas

  1. At the height of the Fendi baguette craze, a Vogue writer made a prediction that the baguette would never really go out of style using this amusingly simple argument: the baguette is a shoulder bag, plain and simple; shoulders will always be here. It’s true that the baguette is so delightfully simple and practical in design that one could carry it around after the “baguette craze” was over without attracting negative comments…but it’s nice to know that it’s making a comeback!

  2. yeah “Indio” is an insult. Because Spaniards use to call Filipinos with that word. It means “stupid”. Learned that during El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere days. Hope that trivia helps.

And btw, I emailed you regarding the speedy 30 LV. I am really interested if you could email me back. Thanks.
