Craving for…

I was craving for Vietnamese food, and unfortunately, we didn’t go downtown to try Slanting Door. Downtown’s a 45- 50 minute drive and I was just too lazy (that’s a first– coz usually I would drive far for good food!) Instead, we went to the closest Vietnamese restaurant on our side of the Bay.

There’s this drink that I really like, which is made of club soda, condensed milk, and egg yolk. I drank it before I could take a photo haha. Sorry. Someone out there who might know the Vietnamese name of this drink, please let me know. And I wonder why they don’t have it here. (E.coli or salmonella scare perhaps?)

I had raw beef salad with beef tripe. Sooooooo gooooood
And of course, fresh rice rolls with prawns and a big bowl of Pho

Fulfilling and very satisfying, I went straight to bed after going home from dinner 😉

So you see, I’m no food snob. I don’t need some fancy schmanzy restaurant to satisfy my unending gastronomic desires. 😉 I may be HM (high maintenance hahahahaha) when it comes to bags (although lately it seems I’m going against being HM hahaha), but when it comes to food, anything good and edible AND cheap, is also GOOOOOD!!

  1. oohh Pho!!! It’s too bad that we only have limited choices of Vietnamese restaurants here in Manila.. the pictures make me hungry.

  2. Pho in the winter time is the best!!! My kids like the egg noodles more than the glass noodles (vermicelli), but the soup is to die for. For the drinks, my husband and I like the french coffee with condensed milk…talk about caffeine overload. My favorite is the bbq pork and egg roll served over vermicelli with tons of the red chili sauce and hoisin sauce…yum!!! I gotta dry that raw beef salad, it looks like pad see eew…

  3. Hey Mrs T,

The beef salad-does it have a citrusy dressing to it? It looks mighty good. I wonder if it’s similar to this dish that they serve at my favorite Japanese restaurant called beef tataki. It’s pan-seared beef tenderloin minus the tripe. Regardless, yumyy!!! Makes me hungry looking at your pics now.

    Happy travels!

  4. best vietnamese resto for me is bawaii’s in tagaytay =) check anton diaz’ post on his site: theawesomeplanet.com

  5. @ Vhanya: oooh thank you! I’ll definitely check it out!

@ Cat: I love Pho Hoa too 🙂

@ MaryD: Yes it’s a little tarty. But is beef tataki minced with spring onions? I have spicy tuna tataki 😉 It’s goooood!

@ Pho wintertime: You got it! Yummmyyyy

    @ PBB: Yes!

@ appledumplings: I hear you. I love Vietnamese food. I wish they have more available dishes here. I get my Vietnamese fill at Pho Hoa. I will definitely try what Vhanya recommended too!

  6. Oh yeah! I’ve heard about that! But it’s by reservation. One time we went there as my dad was craving for Vietnamese. It turns out you need to have a reservation. 🙂 I’ll try that one too soon!
