Cold Feet?

This is just too strange. Ever since I started going on that salad diet (which I’ve not really been religiously maintaining hahaha…), I would get “cold feet.” Literally. (Have any of you peeps had this “condition”? I’m not asking those brides or grooms- to- be hahaha).

Ok maybe I’ve actually been having “cold feet” for awhile now, but have never really noticed it until recently. DM freaked out when I casually mentioned this to her over lunch. She told me that I might have a serious blood circulation problem *gulp* and insisted we go see her podiatrist (yep, the one who told me I might have gained weight hence my plantar fasciitis hahaha). I’m too chicken to go see that podiatrist again (because I did gain weight hahaha.)

So I did some online research. My research led me to the conclusion that I have poor blood circulation. One of the ways to maintain better circulation is by exercising regularly *double gulp*. As I type this, I am staring at my pristine- condition Nike sneakers. It has been awhile since I last did my “run”, also because I couldn’t– it has been raining! I didn’t want to get my sneakers dirty 😀 *Hah! Convenient excuse!*

Anyway, I guess I have no recourse but to resume regular walking exercises or my “cold feet” condition could get worse. Apparently, this can lead to blood clots too! Here are some of the possible conditions which could have contributed to my leg and feet circulation problems:

  • Obesity *Waaaaaaaaa I don’t think I’m obese!!!*
  • Lack of exercise *Guilty!!!!*
  • Improper diet *Guilty!!!!!!!*
  • High blood pressure *If it’s due to cholesterol, then this is a possibility*
  • High cholesterol *Guilty!!!!!!*
  • Diabetes *Hmm… never tested for diabetes before*
  • Certain nerve and thyroid conditions *Don’t think I have thyroid problems*
  • Pregnancy *I am soooo not pregnant! Hahaha maybe I look it 😀 Beer belly*
  • Long periods of sitting in a cramped and immobile position (Economy Class Syndrome) *??????!!*
(information from footsmart.com)

“Economy Class Syndrome”???? What the????

*Laughs* Darnit, so I’ve been taking economy class (but oh, major thanks to CV and to Emirates, I have been upgraded to business class on my past flights). Hahaha is that why I have cold feet? Hahaha. Welllll, sorry feet, but I am too cheap to take business class on long haul flights (unless I’m being sponsored or I use my free miles). Wait, so does that mean all those frequent flyers who take economy class all the time have, at some point, gotten “Cold Feet” syndrome too??? *Dumb baghag alert* Sorry, I know, dumb question. But I had to ask– coz I know some people who don’t get that chance to stretch their legs out often do get that condition sometimes 🙁

Anyway, here are the possible treatments to “cold feet”

  • Avoid cigarette smoking. *I don’t even smoke*
  • Keep your blood pressure under control. *Cholesterol- related*
  • Keep your cholesterol levels in the healthy range. *Does that mean no more fatty foods?*
  • Exercise on a regular and frequent basis. *Ugh, my “sacrifice” doesn’t end with food?*
  • Consider special exercise equipment, products and footwear that promote good circulation, such as a bed wedge or leg wedge. *Yay!! I need good shoes!!!!!!!!!!*
  • Keep moving – avoid staying immobile for long periods of time. *I’m always moving! (defensive tone)*
  • Keep your feet and extremities warm. *How?? No more sandals??*
  • Wear graduated compression hosiery and socks that help stimulate circulation. *tsk. I have to wear socks??*

Now, the remedy to cold feet– it said there to “consider… footwear that promote good circulation”.

I’m thinking… Heels! 🙂 Christian Louboutins, on sale at $320.93 @ Barneys.com!Don’t high heels keep your feet circulation good? All the weight goes to your feet and you have to balance all 100+ lbs of yourself precariously on those thin sticks of a heel! If shoes like that don’t give your legs and feet a workout, I don’t know what other shoes would… *Snicker.. but think about it… doesn’t that make a little sense somehow?*

Or do I go with boots like these– dual purpose: covers my feet (so it doesn’t get cold) and promotes better feet circulation 😉 Boots by Jil Sander, priced at US$279 and available at the Barneys.com sale

But then these boots brought back memories of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s own boots… (see extreme left photo)

Eeks. Those boots are heinous.

*Sigh* why can’t I just go for something classic like these Prada heels, now on sale for $274.03 (from yikes, $690!!!).

Hoooo boy. Anyway, I may be all warmed up from looking at all those beautiful shoes (that are on sale.. gee, I wonder how the other people who bought these shoes at full price feel?? Fleeced, perhaps? Tsk.), but my feet aren’t getting any warmer. I better go and put on some socks on these cold feet now.

And seriously, I better go find a remedy for this. This “cold feet” condition is really baffling me. Or maybe it’s also a wake- up call– that it’s time for me to undergo a serious lifestyle (sleeping, eating, habits.. hehe ok, shopping habits) change. *Sob!!*

  1. Cold feet be gone, please check out the most comfortable graduated compression socks – EVER!
    http://www.SmoothToe.com/medical-socks

They are definitely NOT your grandma’s compression socks! Many women sleep in them and don’t ever want to take them off.

In any case, your circulation will increase … and warm those tootsies almost immediately. Enjoy!

  2. Could your cold feet be a result of your salad diet (no carbs)? My friends who went on the South Beach told me they started feeling cold when they stopped eating rice and pasta. or maybe you could just add more iron to your diet (aka iberet capsules) to get the blood flowing. 🙂

  3. Playing Wii is seriously a good exercise. Hehehe! Plus, it’s fun. It’s also a great way to bond with the family. At least you’re not stuck inside the gym. Hehehe! Just thought you might wanna consider. *wink*

  4. Damian Loth: I’ll totally check that site out. Thank you!! I was actually thinking of wearing support hose everyday already 😉

brown eyed girl: it is possible! But then i actually dont strictly follow my salad diet. I’ve actually been cheating by eating cheesesteak sandwiches and pepper lunch shimofuri steak! once a week 😉 But I’ll also look into that. I think Iberet might help– but yikes, I remember those iron tablets give me constipation haha

lush angel: hahaha remember how i used to play wii fit? 😉 that habit “died” 😀 Now it’s just my kids playing the wii fit. I already refuse to step on that weighing scale… hahahaha. I get judged by Wii (i.e. makes me think why i gained weight hahaha)
