Being Productive + A Quick Look- Back at Balenciaga

Gawd, I woke up real late the other day (what else is new). I think I have been saying that I need to sleep early for the past few years but it rarely happens. It’s a fact that I need to learn to accept– I work best at night, and I’ll never be awake at 6am like everyone else. *Sob*. But bah, I will still remain optimistic and hope one day I will be able to get into the habit of sleeping by 10pm and waking up by 6am. *Tsk* Besides, all the successful businessmen and women I know start their day at 6am (Waaaaah, I’m doomed! hahaha).

Things have been real slow for me this January because I’ve just been too lazy to move my boo-tay to do something mind-blowing (not like that’s ever happened yet. Riiiiiight) hehehe *ok, aside from my rosemary chicken lol… not exactly mind- blowing either hahaha. But oye, I tried. Operative word: Tried*.

As my friend said, let 2010 officially begin after Chinese New Year, which happens to fall on Hearts Day, February 14.  This means, I still have a little less than a month to slack off to get myself together, to make 2010 productive 😀

But psssst, I’ve been productive somehow– see for starters, I changed this blog’s look and even got the blog’s own domain name! I’ve also been playing a lot with the photo area on the top left part of the blog. What started out as a small photo of the bag that I last purchased *shalllooooow* has become somewhat of a photo album which I will keep changing throughout the day *if I have the time, which I obviously still do today hahaha*, or at least once a day. *If you saw the lineup of birkins the other day, let me tell you those bags are NOT mine. In case you actually thought I have all those bags in my closet– let me kill that speculation now. NO, I don’t own all those. It was a photo I took of the bags that belonged to different people who attended the same event :D*  Anyway, about the top left corner of my blog, the photo could be something I took during the day (like a bag that I spotted on someone!), or it could come from my photo album (which is already overflowing with photos of everything and anything)– and this would be a great help since I can finally edit all the photos off my album 🙂
So today, while I was going over my photo album for the next photo I’ll feature, I found some Balenciaga bag photos. And then I realized, I haven’t talked about Balenciaga for the longest time.
I think at one point, I remember saying that I wasn’t too impressed with the Balenciaga motorcycle bag when it first came out. Until Balenciaga came out with beautiful colors. (I remember wanting a metallic red or metallic pink Motorcycle bag so bad, but both were already sold out)
Remember this color?
 And then the Magenta?
And yellow?
The bags came in metallic (or should I say pearlized?) versions too

While I ended up liking these originally called Motorcycle bags, I never owned more than 1 Balenciaga bag at a time (I know a few people who have at least 5 in their bag collection!!). What I did notice when I did use these bags is, after use (like daily for a month), the bottom corners scuff. I think it’s because the leather is very thin (hence the beauty of the bag because it is lightweight),  hence its vulnerability and proneness to scuffing. I usually take very good care of my bags, so I don’t think I banged the bags that much that they got worn out on the bottom corners.
Anyway, this venerable brand kept working with the original motorcycle bag style, morphing the original small hardware studs into big mutants *hehehe* because that’s the style that worked for them *it showed them the moneyyyy! hehe*. If you remember, the motorcycle bag came out along the same time as the Chloe Paddington bag. Both bags were the hotsellers in Neiman Marcus back then *Chloe’s Chalk colored Paddington bag vs Balenciaga’s seafoam Motorcycle Bag*. Now though, walk through the Neiman Marcus bag section and you will see a lot of Balenciaga motorcycle bags on the shelf. Sure they still sell, but the “motorcycle” phenomenon has died down. Honestly, I wish Balenciaga would make their bags a little more durable. There are  still a lot of Balenciaga collectors out there, but I’m sure they’re also talking about those scuffs at the bottom corners on the leather piping.  Anyhoo, I am expecting great things (bags) from this brand this year, so let’s see if B will impress or disappoint.
Last year was a bad year for designer bags overall (with a few exceptions of course!!, but this year shows more promise. The Mulberry Alexa for one, has been back-ordered, and is sold out everywhere I checked and asked (and yes, it looks like the PS1 too– a more feminine version of it :D)

So let’s see what’s in store for bags this 2010 🙂 With that thought, I better start being more productive again (like writing a serious bag article for the paper again– I already did one yesterday, yay! It’s really loooong overdue. Gotta get my writing grove back!!)

  1. I’m actually a fairly new convert to Balenciaga and haven’t noticed any scuffing yet *fingers crossed*. Have you seen the new Velo style? Got it as a NY gift to myself, haha, like I need an excuse.

  2. hey mrs t! i’ve just been wondering about that myself, why i rarely see balenciaga posts here in your blog. i’ve been thinking of adding a city to my collection, since i don’t have a balenciaga yet. but now i’m not so sure about its ‘longevity’, especially after reading your comments above… it is a really beautiful bag though 🙂 🙂

  3. Hi Mrs. T!
I agree with you…I have a motorcycle, work and city…and they have one common denominator- “scuffing” on bottom, corners and on covered hardware, but I like their leather as it is lightweight, even if it looks heavy 🙂

  4. @baghagynecologist: True, they are so light 🙂 I do wish that they would do something about the corners too. Such a waste if a bag is so expensive and doesn’t even last a year, right? 🙁

@daphneosena: Oh dude, thanks for the compliment! it means SO much!! Ads– hehehe lucky camper!! 😀 (shopaholic alert? LOL)

@onabagban: hehehe yes I did get a bag before 2010! The last bag of 2009! I posted the bag online 🙂

@browneyedgirl: It’s really a nice bag. The style grew on me, but yeah those scuffs are pretty annoying to have on such an $$ bag 🙁

@A Loopy Life: COngratulations!! Make sure not to schlep your bag too much, and yes, always check the bag everytime after use 🙂 🙂 It helps!!!

  5. sigh, i agree, balenciaga looks easily worn out. its my current everyday bag for 3 months, traveled to manila and back to SG with it, so imagine how it looks like…

but i really really like it! and my next bag would probably be a balenciaga again.

  6. Hi Mrs. T, thanks for the update. I have been thinking of purchasing a motorcycle bag for myself but now that you’ve said that it’s not so durable, I’m going to have to pass.

Based on your experience, what brand lasts forever?

    Thanks!

    C

  7. @C: Gosh, based on my experience, the LV lasts a VERY loooong time because of the thickness of the canvas. Just stay away from places that are too crowded (slashers!!). I’d go with a Damier Canvas bag. At least no patina on straps 🙂

@Kong-Chu: It’s still a very good bag, even with that “problem” 🙂
