Are you into Gucci?

It’s so interesting how this piece of information comes in handy at the right time, especially when I got 4 calls about Gucci bag authentications (which I don’t do by the way– and nor does the Gucci boutique) a few days ago!

(Information below is copy- pasted directly from Christies.com)

“On January 18, 2010, Gucci and Christie’s will launch ‘Gucci Collector: Presented by Christie’s’– the very first Gucci– certified online destination for authenticating and appraising vintage Gucci products. The result of a unique partnership between the House of Gucci and Christie’s auctioneers, the unprecedented service has been developed for avid Gucci collectors and enthusiasts alike.

A dedicated section on www.christies.com will allow owners to upload photos of their vintage items and submit an appraisal request. A team of Christie’s experts as well as Gucci’s own in-house archivists will provide an assessment of the item, and Christie’s will appraise the value of each submission. Owners will also have the opportunity to sell their items to Gucci, or in a future Christie’s auction, if desired.

And hehehe… now you can begin looking around the house for those vintage Gucci bags or luggages of your folks 😀

  1. ooohh interesting! 🙂

I have this vintage Gucci clutch/bag that I wouldn’t trade for the world! My love for designer bags started with vintage Gucci’s and Dior’s.

  2. hmm… wonder why doesn’t the gucci boutique do authentications when they would be the best people to do so?

just thinking that it would be hard to authenticate something online. you have to feel the material and inspect the stitching and craftmanship upclose too.

  3. @bessie: Use powder and line the lining with it 🙂 It helps a lot, especially since Manila is So humid and bags have this tendency to get crummy faster 🙁

@browneyedgirl: I guess the Gucci archivists would know if the products are theirs to begin with? Re: sales peeps to authenticate Gucci, I think they’ll have a hard time unless they’ve been scrutinizing the brand’s products inside out for a very long time. It’s also good they don’t– imagine if they wrongly authenticated something. That would be worse, right? 🙂

@appledumplings: Get that bag appraised by Christies 🙂 It’s nice to find out how much vintage designer bags are really worth 🙂

  4. my mom had a very old Gucci bag from 20 years ago. I don’t think its in a good shape now but I guess its nice to have a sense “history” LOL

  5. wrongly authenticate something? is that possible? that’s how good replicas are becoming nowadays? shocking…

  6. I started with Gucci too, then it just faded. Suddenly the design became too generic. Btw, have you heard of Artcurial in France? Every now and then, they do an Hermes vintage auction. They accept international bidders and they ship as well, at a cost ofcourse. 🙂
