A Tribute to Jean- Louis Dumas :)

Thank you peeps for your strong show of support in the Reveal post 🙂 I am really happy that I was able to make some of you smile still. It wasn’t easy to reveal that, to tell you frankly. And I stand by what I said earlier– I really don’t know what prompted me to jump the gun and get it. I guess that’s my Big Bang Mid- 30s Gift (oh and I guess I should throw in the Mother’s Day pressie thingie too haha *so I can feel less guilty. NOT*). No I won’t get an Hermes crocodile birkin. I don’t think I deserve it (and more importantly, it’s really way out of the budget already– and no, that’s NOT false humility. It’s the truth!)
Speaking of Hermes, some sad news today: Jean- Louis Dumas, the chief of Hermes, passed away today. He was 72 years old. Dumas is credited as the man who had turned “a chance encounter with… English actress Jane Birkin into one of Hermes’s biggest successes.” One can remember the story of him seating next to Ms. Birkin on a flight to London from Paris. And from that encounter, the Birkin bag, the decade’s (or even the century’s) most iconic bag was born.

Mr. Dumas is a legend, so here’s a tribute to him… We will all miss him but his legacy lives on 🙂

35cm lagoon togo birkin

35cm violet shiny porosus crocodile birkin

35cm vert anis togo birkin

30cm cyclamen chevre birkin

30cm jaune epsom birkin

35cm rouge VIF togo birkin

35cm bleu roi ostrich birkin

Enjoy the photos! And no, again no false humility here, don’t ask me which ones I own– because I certainly don’t own those exotics!!

Thanks to friends who had nicely lent me their bags to photograph 🙂

Rest in Peace, Jean- Louis Dumas !!!

  1. I love love how these are more than the colours of the rainbow – especially the cyclamen chevre. Was this the one you were wearing in a pic on BB’s blog?

  2. Peeps, Don’t worry about the bags being on the floor– the floor gets THOROUGHLY disinfected with chemical solutions of sorts before I laid them down there for photos. *Im anal about those things haha* Also, that floor area is not a place where people walk, so it hardly ever (if even ever) gets stepped on 🙂
