A bag hag’s NIGHTMARE + Bag Review

Oh Poopie! What’s the worse nightmare of a bag hag? Being BROKE! Instead of learning to be gracious and be thankful for being given travel perks by ma famille *cough I freeload so much off my family, it’s sickening*, I just HAD to act like a total ingrate*cough I’m being my usual self here* and harp about it. You ask, what on earth could Mrs.T be harping about now? *Don’t we all loooove (or hate haha) to hear me harp harp harp and gripe gripe gripe? Hehe I’m channeling Dr. Seuss books here* Well hear ye, hear ye. Mrs.T harps about not having l’argent (aka moolah) to shop in Bangkok (aka NO POCKET MONEY!!!) But oye, as what my newfound chatmate ML had to find out, I’d really rather hang out in the 168 mall version in Bangkok (MBK Shopping Center) than the likes of Greenbelt (Siam Paragon) and all other upscale malls. Because le baghag is more at home at 168 (think small budget but big loot at the end of the day :D). So maybe having little pocket money can still translate to bringing home luggagefuls of loot! After all, I am a pack rat and a perennial hoarder (trust me, I’d find plenty useless things to bring home *snicker to add to my junk collection that’s already piling up like Mount Everest on my side of the room*).

Sigh, being the pretentious little baghag that I am, I’ll shamelessly admit that I’d looooove to flash platinum *snicker, it’s a silver card actually– the entry level kind, not platinum hehehe pretentious baghag!! snicker!!* at some upscale boutique in Bangkok and be swooned over like a goddess *pfffft but I’m sure I’ll be spit at when they find out how delinquent I am with my bills hahahaha, but NO ONE there has to know that, so shush!* But sigh *Conscientious baghag in 3…2…1* I just can’t hoard expensivo stuff without worrying about le bills when I come home (I worry about them card company collectors who come knockin’ at my rusty door regularly… *shiver* Afraid! :D). But oh dear oh Lawrd almighty, save me from the trouble of having to grudgingly say NO (with the reason: Oh me no likey the color… *yeah right* what a big fat lie *Scream… FAKER!*– especially if it’s some really fancy color that I’d normally kill to have…*ugh pathetic eh?*) to a birkin when I get offered one by the lovely people at Hermes Bangkok (all 300+ sq.metres of it). Gawd I’d really hate to say no *with clenched fists waiting to beat myself up when I walk out of the store for giving up an opportunity* to own bag like that when I get offered. *REALITY CHECK!!!* Ok let me park it right here. One, I have no idea what possessed me into thinking that I’d even get offered one when I walk into that boutique. And two, I’d be totally delusional if I actually believe that I am VIP enough to be offered one *what a piece of work I can be, eh?*. The chances of me getting offered a Jean Paul Gaultier Tiger bag *Most certainly NOT by Hermes* are greater. Uh oh, BUGLY BAG ALERT. This bag from eluxury.com is just soooo garrish and hideous! *Ding ding* Highway robbery at US$1,495! Only a fashion victim would be caught dead with this Tiger Balm poster bag (unless of course you’re the CEO of Tiger Balm… You’d WANT this bag!!). *Tsk* sometimes I really wonder how JPG could bag the role of lead designer for such a classy brand… but then again, doubt he’d wanna make any major faux pas bag designs for Hermes! He’s got Le Golden Ticket so why mess up!)

Ok let me deflate all that enthusiasm and hype about my pending trip to Bangkok. I hafta pay for my credit card bills tomorrow and it’s giving me a migraine just thinking about it (paylite paylite paylite!!). Kidding aside though, I am looking forward to the trip because it gives me time to spend with my DM and siblings, my DH *yes he has decided to tag along hehe* and of course, my kids. What I’m really dreading is the weather. I was told (and thanks to YReligioso for confirming my fears) that it’s about 36 degrees there. Bangkok is literally muy caliente!! Think heatstroke for people who get exposed to more than 2 minutes of direct sunlight. Tsk. I just hope my ailments don’t come haunting me in foreign land. More importantly, I hope my DKs don’t get sick there! *Pray pray*

Now, all those fears are allayed ONLY if I get to test drive the following bags (assuming I even see these babies) *Woohoo retail therapy to promote physical health haha*.

Derek Lam’s Large Leather Tote. For those who have a predilection for oversized bags, this is one of the bags I’d recommend. It’s not a very mainstream designer bag (compared to Prada or LV of course), but you can be assured you are carrying a bag that not everyone on high street owns. A bit pricey at US$1,99o but don’t you just love the ruching? 🙂 Available at eluxury.com (and hopefully in Bangkok)

Kooba Charlie Pleated Duffle. Kooba just keeps getting better and better. And an even better reason for buying one is her price! Only US$615 (and I use the term “only” because compared to other brands like well, Derek Lam, this bag is cheap!). This would make the perfect nondescript schlepping bag! And thank goodness for that detachable shoulder strap too!

Ok, enough entertainment for one night (or day). I feel so lightheaded already and I think I need a bit of a shuteye. I did good today, having finished most of my errands. Ugh. Tomorrow is bills-paying day. *Bawl checkbook abuse!!!*

P.S. T.Becca 😀 My blog is seriously detrimental to your emotional and mental health, don’t allow yourself to be corrupted *muwahaha shhhh not in front of the children hehehe*; RubyG: I’m the one who’s actually shy to say hi! I actually met you before through DaphP but of course why’d you say hi to a small po’tater like me? Good luck with your Chanel naked bag hunt :D; No YSL casuals or flats on sale. Most of the shoes are size 35 or 36, and have high high heels.

P.P.S. JP: I’d love to own that LV Dentelle Speedy in gold, but I have to go on a waitlist and even if the wait takes forever, I can’t cough up cash right now– remember my “project”? Well that sucked me dry financially (seriously) *bawl… find me a financier please!! This materialistic baghag is in dire need of large sums of Thai bahts!* 🙂

We’re flying out to Bangkok on April 4 (tomorrow)! Will be back to blog about the whole experience on April 10 🙂 *or if I decide to bring my laptop, maybe I can blog when I’m there! Stay tuned!!!*

Have a good Easter holiday!!!

xx

  1. hello mrs. t. i was in BKK last week. it’s scorching hot there! i’m sure you’re not the chatuchak type of shopper, but just in case, i suggest you forego that, you might end up with lechon skin like moi! if you must budget shop, just go to platinum. it’s mala-shoppesville, full of cheapo clothing (unlike mbk which is full of many other things). have a good trip! i’m sure you’ll come home with so much loot apres emporium and siam paragon (the food hall of paragon alone is an experience).

  2. Hi Mrs. T! You still haven’t replied about Goyard post! Also, would you know what designer stores they have available in Bangkok? We’re heading there too pretty soon. =)

  3. so i guess urging you to buy a Monogram Olympe frame bag is out of the question too. too bad, it’s sooooooooo good. how’s the “project” going anyway? anything to declare? hehehehehe…. i sent you photos of my newest LV transformer bag in kangaroo leather a while back. did you get it?

i hope you have a great time in BKK. bring home a Dentelle Speedy!

  4. Veronica: hey there 🙂 Sorry I totally missed out on answering your Q about Goyard, so here it is : the measurement of the St Louis PM (this is the PERFECT size) is 18H x 10L x 5.5W. The St Louis GM is wayy too big, while the St Louis Junior Tote is just good for those quick jaunts to the bank or something (haha unless you plan to withdraw wads of cash hahaha). I’d recommend the St Louis PM– this is the bag I normally carry when I am with the kids 🙂 It should be priced somewhere about US$930 give or take. Hope that helps 🙂

  5. anonymous: POST A NAME!!!! A NICKNAME!!! *guffaw, come on!!!!* Anyway thanks so much for the tips on Bangkok! This is going to be quite an experience. I travel with toddlers, so go figure (and dont be surprised if i lose my voice again when im back in manila hahaha) 😀 Thanks again and I will pass on chatuchak bec its just really hot 🙁 although boy id love to go there when its cooler. ill do the full report when i can 🙂

JP: my friend YRI was just at bkk last week– no dentelle speedy available 😀 And psst, stop convincing me to get one *muwahaha bad bad!!!*

    xx
