TRAVELOG: Thebaghag is a Harajuku girl wannabe

Day two of Tokyo: We woke up around 11am to this view:

The Eiffel Tower of Tokyo 🙂 That’s actually the Tokyo Tower in Roppongi. I looove the view!

And check out the line of trees… now This photo reminds me of New York (Central Park :D)
Ange met us at the lobby of our hotel as she planned to take us to Omotesando/ Harajuku. Omotesando is apparently like the Rodeo Drive of Tokyo (ok we’re sooo there). And Harajuku? Well Gwen Stefani sorta said it (or rather, sang it) all 😀

We were dropped off here.

Little bag store along the way(Hello, Chanel Coco Cabas wannabe :D)

I nearly choked when I saw this Laura Ashley store. Let me give you a little 4-1-1 about Laura Ashley. It’s a very 80s-early 90s kinda thang. My DM used to dress me up in Laura Ashley clothes when I was a wee little ‘un. And I got a dose of Laura Ashley flower power (yes, floral dresses galore!) revival back in college when they opened a small boutique in the upscale street mall located about 20 minutes away from school. So yes, I was a Laura Ashley baby *Muwahaha*. And ok, so I thought the brand was already dead long ago. Imagine my surprise and shock when I saw the brand’s presence in Tokyo! Ok here’s the even funnier thing– Ange says, “The 80s is well and alive in Japan!!”. Bands like Duran Duran still perform in Japan (I know! Simon LeBon performing still?! I WANNA WATCH THEIR CONCERT!!!). Another reason why DH and I can live in Japan– we were a serious byproduct of the 80s!! Well actually DH is a 70s kinda guy hahahaha… that should set me apart from him, age-wise *muwahahaha*. Oye he is “MUCH” older than I *hahahaha I just HAD to point that out hahaha.. (Ok so he just looks younger than me. So he’s lucky he doesn’t need StriVectin like I do hahaha*).

A good laugh or two about the 80s later, we arrived at the crossing of Omotesando, where Gap is. At that crossing was a television crew (PS- apparently the photog who was there that day, is famous– his name is Shoichi Aoki, as I would later find out). This crossing is quite popular– tv crew and fashion mag photogs are usually in the area to take photos of street fashion. Then sometimes the footage gets beamed across the big screen on the building located on the other side of the street, OR your photo ends up in a magazine! Ange was like, “if you wanna be seen, this is the place.” Hehe…so I did try to catch the producer’s eye, being the publicity hungry, social climbing taitai wannabe that I am *Muwahahahaha*, but attempts to catch his attention were futile. I was the plainest Jane that day (wait, I’m always plain Jane!) I mean, how can I compete with girls who wore clothes like THIS!Hehehehe! I can’t possibly wear that dress. I have a varicose vein farm that ran along the coin-sized scars on my legs (hahaha… I make the friggin Central bank look poor with my coin scar collection hahaha)

It was already past noon as we walked the street of Omotesando. We passed by a crepe stand, and while I was tempted to get something there, I held back… (I didn’t want Ange thinking that my favorite pastime is binge-eating junk food hahahaha shhh)

We ended up at a small restaurant called Fujimama’s. It reminded me so much of the smaller restaurants in Hong Kong– at SoHo. Most of the diners there were also foreigners. I felt at home haha. We had a wonderful lunch (sorry no food photos, I was so hungry I wolfed everything down! That and I got real shy to take the photos hehe). Here’s a souvenir shot: Mrs.T and Ange 😀 *and to answer Anonymous’ question, Ange is my Tokyo tai-tai friend, married to Asia’s big boss of National Geographic and Fox Entertainment (News Corp) *the company that brings you Jack Bauer’s 24.. YEAH! I’m a super big 24 fan :D* (ok I noticed Japanese love doing that “peace” sign, so hey, when in Japan… you get the drift haha)
So apres lunch, we walked around Harajuku’s Takeshita- Dori. I only know about Harajuku after Gwen Stefani made it famous (goes to show what an ignoramus I really am!). Here’s the youngest Harajuku girl 😀 She is the cutest little girl I’ve ever laid my eyes on 🙂 And her tiny Mukluks are the best! Haha you know what, I just remembered– I saw Mukluks on an adult in MANILA!! I was like, crap I shudder to think how stinky her feet would’ve been after a few hours of wearing them… Hello, Manila isn’t exactly the place for Mukluks (and I don’t care if it was meant to be worn as a fashion statement. Ewww nevertheless…and sorry if I offended the wearer, but please, spare your feet the agony :D).

Speaking of boots, MORE platform stripper boots 😀 *hehehe sorry I don’t know how else to call these boots, but I’ve seen them on strippers hahaha so I contemplated on buying a pair hahahahaha….*. And more importantly, proof that Tokyo is Louis Vuitton city 😀 Check out her LV white multicolore aurelia.

People lined the alleyways of Harajuku, and it wasn’t even a weekend!

Stores selling keychains and umm… fake squeeze-em-boobies? Hehehe (top left part of the photo)
Cutesy clothes for the Harajuku girl 🙂
And then the famous costume store that Gwen Stefani visited and patronized. We had a blast in this store!! DH on the other hand, was I think embarrassed to be seen in this store with us gals 🙂 Hahaha…

My pick:
Hehe I’ve always wanted to trot around town in a French maid outfit hahahaha. And oh oh, I gotta have one of these boots too hahahaha…The B&W leopard print knee high boots please. I’ll be the epitome of French maid chic 😀 *Woohoo!!* (puke!!! hehehe)

Ahhh a sight for sore eyes… *hehehe* Another sign of American capitalism living large in Tokyo 🙂 McDonald’s!!!! *Well oh yeah, there was Gap, right? :D* Incidentally, here’s a photo I’d like to talk a bit about– you see that lady wearing a face mask? Ok here’s why. People in Tokyo are very hygienic. If they get a cold or cough, they wear the face mask to prevent others from getting infected. It’s apparently pretty unacceptable to sneeze in public, but it IS acceptable to flatulate in public *muwahahahha pooooooot!* DH and I laughed so hard we nearly farted *hahaha and it would’ve been ok!!*. Note to self: Public flatulence= not offensive; Sneezing snot = offensive. *Muwahahahaha*

Here’s the last photo for this post. The famous “Last Supper”, Sesame Street version *hahaha*. I was tempted to buy this for my DK, but I think I’d be seriously damaging the innocence of a child (what do I answer with the question “but where’s Big Bird?” hahaha), so I changed my mind. Hahaha, I don’t want to be branded as a bad bad mumsy. *Hahaha can you imagine I make my DK wear this to a school interview? Hahahaha*. And oh, here’s another VERY good reason why I didn’t buy the shirt– it costs US$29!! Expensivo!

More on Omotesando tomorrow. 🙂 You won’t want to miss the Omotesando post!! 🙂 *Serious eye candy*
