Travelog: Thebaghag in Tokyo

The first night had turned out to be a rather funny one, from our luggage mishap (ok, here’s a good look at that luggage :D– yeah, I duct taped the broken edge hahaha.. ain’t she purdy??:D)to the surprise toilet bowl 🙂 The trip already had signs that it was going to be one heckuva good vacation. Thank Gawd, because after all the stress over the last few weeks, heaven knows how badly I needed an awesome, mind-blowing vacation.

So ok, it was already past 11 in the evening when we got out of the hotel to explore Shibuya. This was the very first photo I took after we left Cerulean.

Hachiko Crossing. This is probably the busiest crossing I’ve ever seen (more proof of this in a few days). It’s the equivalent of Times Square in New York (I think… but then I haven’t been to NY in ages ages and ages!). And to think this photo was taken past 11pm!

It was busy, busy, busy!! Loads of people everywhere, in every possible corner imaginable!

And more interesting to note is, the amount of vending machines strategically located in almost every corner :)– there is so much to choose from that, I’m telling you, if you were thirsty, you’d think a good 5 minutes before making your decision on what to drink! *more vending machine photos in the next few posts*

We passed by Tower Records– the world’s biggest one. DH was like, “is this the only surviving Tower Records in the world?” Teehee… coz the ones in San Francisco were closing down already, one by one. And well, Tower Records in Tokyo is very much alive and kicking. All 9 floors of stuff! (or wait, is it 10 or 6? Bah, bottom line is, it was more than 5 floors … and this baghag lost count hahaha… I’m terrible with numbers, remember?)

We went into the side streets, and found a Coach store in one of the smaller alleyways! What a surprise! I’m not too fond of Coach, but I do like that doggie outfit… Hehe… Speaking of which, I have to tell you peeps that I finally am reunited with my Jack Russell Terrier named Elvis 😀 *yeah! The King!!*, so for a short second there, I actually contemplated on getting him that outfit…. But then the good sense in me told me that he’d probably tear the outfit apart hehe… so no to the Coach doggie outfit 😀

There’s this cute little Japanese cafe with a happy pig holding a bottle of beer… Hehehe funky! Although I wasn’t too keen on trying this place out just yet… Drunken pig? Hmm… *or is the pig holding a bottle of soysauce??*

And woohooo another long line of vending machines that dispense anything from soda to canned soup (served warm too haha).Vending machines are about to become “MY” thing… I want one of those in my house! Hahahaha… Ok, christmas wishlist: TWO sets of vending machines please– one that dispenses drinks, and one that dispenses $$$… oh wait, that’s an ATM machine… hahaha.. Ok, second vending machine dispenses jewelry… or designer bag gift certificates! 😀 How’s that?!

There’s also a clothing store called Indio… (Hmm… isn’t this word some kind of an insult to local Filipinos?? Someone please enlighten me with that word’s true meaning. Please? Pardon your ignoramus baghag, I really don’t know what the word means except that I vaguely remember someone getting beaten up for it because he used that word on someone… I could be seriously wrong as usual hehe. Forgive! Forgive!)

Christmas at The Loft. I looove the Loft. There’s also this store in Hong Kong, Bangkok… and they have loads of cool crap (like, crap that we all love to hoard but we don’t really need hehe… psst, those who are guilty of such crime, raise your hand!)
Ooooh and there’s this huge “penny” arcade (that’s what they call it in the U.S. but I don’t know what they’re called in Japan). The cool thing about this place is, it’s SO family oriented *hahaha* First floor is all the cutesy patootsy stuff that kids will love (heck I love everything in there too). There’s stuffed toys, candy etc to be won if you take a chance and drop those Y100 coins. On the second floor is a room full of slot machines– and pachinkos! (More on pachinkos later). Funny thing is, you can leave your kids on the 1st floor, and work your way up to the succeeding floors– well, gamble your way up to the succeeding floors hahaha. (DH and I remained on the 1st…we can’t gamble coz we don’t know how hahaha… losers!)

We didn’t realize the time, and when we looked, it was already almost 1 am! And we were still out on the streets! Suddenly I heard my stomach rumble. I was hungry. Hahaha. It’s my usual time to have that midnight snack. I had to literally drag DH into a small cafe that served Japanese curry. I WANT JAPANESE CURRY!!! And DH was like, “lady, I can’t eat right now! I’m sleepy already!”

In the end of course, thebaghag won because I’d harp nonstop about my ignored hunger if DH and I went straight back to the hotel *hahaha and we’d seriously end up eating room service hahaha… so it was the curry place or room service* (pssst, thebaghag is spoiled rotten eh? hahaha)

We had midnight snack at CocoIchi.

Crud, hello language impediment! The whole menu was in Japanese. So we were both snickering away when the waiter came by to take our order. Basically, I narrowed down my choices to : 1. Fried breaded oblong shaped meat with curry over rice; 2. Fried breaded round shaped meat with curry over rice; 3. Fried breaded rectangular shaped meat with curry over rice 🙂 *muwahahaha it all boiled down to SHAPES!* I felt like my children picking out my favorite shape hehehe…

No choice, we used the “turo turo” (point- point) method to order. *hehehe turo turo* DH decided to have the 5 tiny bite- sized breaded meat curry over rice *Muwahahaha I was like, they look like little fried fingers… eeewww hahaha*. And I on the other hand, ended up with the rectangular breaded meat which turned out to be chicken cutlet 🙂
*DH’s was fried chicken lollipops… or something like that hehe.. I know it tasted like chicken…. hmm… come to think of it, almost anything can taste like chicken…hehe…mystery meat from the cafeteria anyone?*

It was an excellent midnight snack and we both finished everything on the plate. DH was such a liar. He was reallly hungry after all :D. He was the “coolie”of the night, so he needed that heavy meal 😀 Oh and our bill came out to Y1,650. (That’s about US$16.50 or Php 700). Not too bad, but considering it was just one rice dish per person, it was still pretty expensive (for that amount in Manila, it can already get you a big meal at a local food court! Yum!)

We walked back to our hotel afterwards (same pedestrian bridgeway that the luggage was carried by DH hahaha) , full stomachs and all. The wind was blowing and it was just soooo nice and cold *sigh*. Nice time to snuggle up!! *Woohoo*

It was officially gonna be day 1 of Tokyo the day after. (We wasted a day already because the flight came into town at night already. And we will be wasting yet another day because our departure back to Manila is at 9am!!)

P.S. Shameless plug: www.Tresormakati.com got updated (after a few weeks of not having it updated. Sorry for the inconvenience peeps! It’s up and running again :D)

  1. Hi Mrs. T! I love reading your blogs! They are so funny!

Also I have been wanting to buy from Tresorie but I am from the States. I have read in Flickr that you ship abroad. How will I go about doing that? I also tried to call the numbers in the Tresorie website but no answer. I also tried texting D!luxe’s cell but I have not gotten any answer. You may have an alternate number I can call.

    Thanks so much!

  2. Soooo funny about the picking food by shape! And your luggage looks new still, but I guess a $20 luggage reeks of shoddy workmanship ha ha ha
    Keep the luggage!!

  3. Thats a crappy luggage hihi! But like rpg says you should keep it and reuse it again to see how long it will last hihihi
