Travelog Singapore: First Stop, Violet Oon’s Kitchen

It was an honor for me to have been invited by the Singapore Tourism Board to visit the Lion City. And while it is not my first time to visit this beautiful city, the activities the STB had lined up for me are all things that I have never done or places I have never been to before. I was really so excited to have been asked to join this trip because it finally gives me a comprehensive look into one of my favorite cities in Asia!

First stop after Changi Airport was at Violet Oon’s Kitchen.g-vi9

I have heard of Violet Oon in the past, but there was never really the opportunity to eat at her bistro because it was a little out of the way. But this is the beauty of Singapore– there are surprisingly incredible restaurants within the city that you need to make the effort to visit! Singapore cuisine is never really just about Bak Kut Teh, Chili Crab,  and Hainanese Chicken Rice! I was so happy to have been given this chance to explore!

Violet Oon’s Kitchen did not disappoint at all. It was impressive– from the ambiance of the bistro right down to the food, I can sense Violet Oon’s passion.

Feast your eyes on these dishes!

Meatless Meatballs– this is a MUST- TRY! She mentioned using walnuts in these, and I could swear to you that it did taste like there was meat, but Violet insisted that there was none. Zero! sg-vi6

A rather unconventional dish for Violet– she says that she is Californian at times as her family goes to California often, hence the quesadilla!

sg-vi8

One of my favorite vegetables, okra, topped with chili. This gave our palates a nice, hot kick! sg-vi9

Sinful carbs– chili crab pizza! sg-vi11
The beef brisket was so tender!sg-vi12

Dry laksa– very flavorful!sg-vi13

And then there was dessert, such hard choices and if there was only more room left in the tummy, I’d have asked for all three!

But this won in the end– and is my favorite, bread and butter pudding with whisky and custard sauce! This was HEAVEN!!!
sg-vi10Wow, I could barely walk out of Violet Oon’s Kitchen after the meal. I was hoping someone would just roll me out but haha, I think everyone else in my group had food coma as well!! 😀

Violet Oon’s Kitchen is online by the way at http://www.violetoonskitchen.com/ and you’ll find all the necessary details there to book your reservation. This bistro is definitely one that I will keep coming back to without a doubt!!

P.S. I’m going to have to conserve battery life with my Mac Book Air because I stupidly forgot to bring the electric cord. Yea yea let’s chalk it up to old age already haha.
