We had a choice of having Muscovite food or some kinda food we are more familiar with. Having two brothers in the family who love food (because they don’t want to go hungry), we ended up having something more familiar *hahahaha….we’re not ready to try Russian fare yet*
We needed rubles and we were able to find a decent money changer who didn’t gyp us (the first one gypped us– said that the exchange rate was 27.72 *as opposed to 29.72* because we changed US$ in an amount less than US$10k. What the?!?!). The one thing we can now always bear in mind when going to money changers– make sure to ask for the rate first for the amount of money you are exchanging before you turn over your cash. Or you could end up sorry (or sore losers like us hahaha). Oh well, we sure helped the Russian economy today.
Anyway, after the money changing incident, we walked around our hotel area and were able to find a place to eat for dinner–
Cafe des Artistes (more French than Russian hahaha). Ok we actually wanted to go to Cafe Pushkin but we were all wearing jeans and apparently that’s not going to get us in. And we were all just too tired to change. So it was at Cafe des Artistes where we had dinner. Outside the restaurant, there were still some unmelted snow and ice. Yes, it’s really THAT cold here.
The inside of the restaurant is beautiful.
Painted ceiling, very beautiful, stylized walls. The place looked rich.
I ordered Beef carpaccio with rucola salad
It did not disappoint. I was hungry and I was extremely satisfied with this dish.
For my main course, I had monkfish with lemon risotto. Oh sooooo gooood!!
The family ordered these:
Veal bratwurst
Veal stroganoff (at least I think it’s stroganoff)
My eldest DB who celebrates his birthday, ordered the entrecote. It was a little overdone so he wasn’t too happy about it. So if you plan to order entrecote, make sure to ask them to prepare it medium rare.
And the bill for the night:
Not exactly a cheap meal, but it was pretty decent 🙂
