Travelog: Italian at Montecatini, Natch!

At Montecatini, there were a few pizzerias we passed (one good one is Ricciarelli across from Grand Hotel Plaza) but DB was hoping for something more. I didn’t do my research during this trip so we were left pretty “blind” with where to eat. And then we found this hole in the wall-ish restaurant.

Ristorante Da Lorenzo

When we went inside, the place was packed. We had to wait 1 hour to get a table– apparently they take reservations– they prefer it, since the place is not too big. This was definitely a good sign. We were so hungry when we finally got our table, so we didn’t take long to order. Here was our Montecatini Italian feast 😀

The shrimps were wonderful. The squid ordinary

This was the BEST pasta I’ve tasted in years. Hands down, a winner!

Macaroni ai scampi

Cozze (mussels)

This pizza was superb as well. It was a porcini pizza and we asked to add prosciutto crudo on top of the pizza after it was baked.

This is SOOOOOOOOO gooooooood!!!!

I ordered the spaghetti ai frutti di mare– I was very happy with this!

It was excellent but this had a long way to go if I were to compare it to the Macaroni ai scampi

Classic vongole. Also very good

I was not a carbonara fan, but this made me like it 🙂

Carbonara

By the time we finished our meal (it was a very heavy meal), the restaurant was already half empty.

And we were already too full to even try the dessert! It was an excellent meal, a truly unforgettable and pleasantly surprising one!

If you are planning to spend a night in Montecatini, I highly recommend this restaurant for dinner!

That meal was the perfect way to say goodbye to Montecatini 🙂 Next blog post will be about Lucca! 🙂
