The Burning Question about Goyard + A new Goyard

I was able to bring my Jeanne GM on my last trip to Paris to have the handles replaced. All it took Goyard Paris was 2 days to have the old handles replaced with the new ones. Franck, the SA who helped me there said that there was apparently a peeling problem with the old jeanne bag handles. The latest ones no longer used the “old” handles and have no more problem. While I was peeved at why the handles had peeled (2 other similar incidents of peeling have occurred– 2 bags of 2 people I know, both jeanne GM bags), I was glad that it was a problem that they had openly acknowledged, as opposed to feigning ignorance that this was the “first” case they’ve ever heard of peeling problems. Imagine if that happened, it would be all over this blog, that’s for sure, and that would be the end of my affection for Goyard hahaha. But glad it didn’t happen that way lol!

Anyway, the problem was remedied rather quickly– I was actually expecting that they’d just ship the bag to me in the U.S., but no, they insisted I bring the repaired bag home with me because it wasn’t going to take a long time to do it. Of course I was the one surprised this time– because I was under the impression that it was vacation month– “tout le mois d’Aout” (whole month of August) Hehehe… pardon my dropping a French phrase… *still feeling like a Parisian… NOT! Snicker*. But Goyard had craftsmen (I’m thinking more like one craftsman hehe) in the building who would replace the handles.

Other bags that I have like the Croisiere, St. Louis, Fidji, and Ambassade (which I put on the floor everyday by the way– it’s my laptop bag and it’s a pink one– no scuffed edges yet :D) are doing exceptionally well. So if ever, this was really just a problem that involved one particular model. I still am inclined to think the “safest” bags (meaning least maintenance required) are the St. Louis totes and the Fidji hobos. Schlepped them all over the place already and they’re still doing quite well and ageing quite nicely. Scuffing to some corners on the more banged up ones, but nothing really major that I’d harp endlessly about *yet*.

Although I have to say, Louis Vuitton‘s coated canvas material seems thicker and more durable than Goyard. Goyard’s St. Louis Totes are certainly lighter than Louis Vuitton’s Neverfull, but again it’s really all a matter of your taste and preference at the end of the day.
I honestly still prefer Goyard because the brand has a plethora of colors for me to choose from. Louis Vuitton just has browns (damier and classic mono) and well, the azur for the coated canvas line. That’s not to say I don’t like Louis Vuitton. I love LV too 🙂 Case in point– when LV came out with that murakami @ MOCA neverfull, I had to get one. I did let my old classic monogram neverfull go because I never seem to keep classic monogram bags for a long period of time– I admit, I’m not into “browns” much. However, I kept my murakami neverfull bag because it is indeed a no-brainer bag to carry everywhere. And it has that splash of color 😉 *So you see really, I have no brand loyalty haha… I pledge allegiance to them all! Hehehe*

So anyway, for Goyard to live on as a premier brand, they must address issues like this leather handle problem and resolve them quickly. To the Signolles, I also hope you can find ways to make the canvas thicker. And come out with more styles if you want to be at par with competition 😉 *that’s if you intend to go head-to-head*. It’s my 2 cents worth (not like my 2 cents is really worth anything to them hehe.. but well you never know :D)

Incidentally, there is a new style at Goyard that came out not so long ago, it’s the smaller version of the Boeing– called the Boeing 30 :). And it’s a terribly cute bag by the way. You can actually lengthen the handles like the croisiere, and you can tuck the sides underneath to look like a little dumpling or keep them up to look like a cabas tote. And it has zippers! Bad news there is, it’s a bit more expensive than the croisiere. Priced at US$2,250 + tax.

This is the look of the bag with sides tucked underneath by snap enclosures
When untucked, the bag looks completely different.

The bag is exactly the same in length as a Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 and is only out in 2 colors– black and red. I don’t know about you baghags, but I’m loving it because it has a versatile shape! Plus, it can either be “hand” carried, or shoulder carried. And it has an exterior pocket too for your keys or cellphone. Oh and it’s a VERY light bag! 🙂
Anyway, that’s about it from this side of the world for now 🙂 I have to digest all the food I ate now. I am becoming a professional glutton and I am soo not liking me anymore *sob at the same time burp*. In my next post, I intend to write about thebaghag “pretending” to be a clotheshorse, and in the process, finding out one thing that really “hurt” 🙁 *biiig sob* (And yes, you will be able to take potshots at me again. Betcha can’t wait to do that hehe :D)
