Paris: More Fun Spots in the 2nd Arrondissement

As promised, I’m sharing some more of my favorite eateries as well as shopping spots around my area 🙂 I think the thing about Paris is, there are many places to eat but a lot in the more popular areas cater to tourists. While many of the bistrots and brasseries serve great food, others are mediocre. These ones I mentioned below are quite good and if you get that chance, also do visit the places for a different kind of shopping 😉

1. LE COMPAS: There are so many good places to eat along Rue Montorguiel/ Rue des Petits- Carreaux. Au Rocher de Cancale is one of them and looks so pretty from the outside, but there’s also Le Compas. I love this place because they serve really good cappuccino. Also try their cafe viennois (coffee with chantilly yummmmy). Their croque madame is wonderful as well. And I guess I also love the vibe here, which is why I chose this over Au Rocher de Cancale. And oh yeah, also because this place looks pretty in photos 🙂

2. BOLLY NAN: After over 2 weeks of having pizza, pasta, and French food after Italy, I craved for Asian food. Bolly Nan along Rue des Petits- Carreaux fed that hunger for an authentic Asian meal. I love Indian food and I highly recommend this place. Screenshot_2015-10-13-13-22-36-1

It’s actually more of a fast food service because dishes are already there for your picking and they just reheat them. But what they serve “fresh” is freshly baked naan bread. Ask for the garlic naan because that just goes well with all the saucy dishes. I recommend the coconut curry chicken and the spinach to go with the naan. Just thinking about them makes me salivate ;).

3. RUE DES PETITS- CARREAUX FRUIT MARKET: I’ve bought a lot of fresh fruits from Monoprix and Naturalia supermarkets but I swear, the freshness and quality really do not compare at all with the ones from the actual market along rue des petits carreaux. This season yielded really sweet figs and unlike most other countries, we don’t get them fresh in the Philippines so I really stocked up on these figs! 20151008_145213-01 So if you are planning to stay longer in Paris and are staying in an apartment, you should pay this market a visit!

4. FRENCHIE TO GO: If you have difficulty getting that elusive dinner booking at Frenchie along Rue du Nil (because it takes months to get a booking in this very small space of a restaurant), you might want to go next door at Frenchie To Go for brunch/ lunch. The place does get very full because like its neighbor, the space is also small and seating is limited. But if you do get lucky and get a spot, you must try the lobster roll as well as the legendary pulled pork sandwich with a glass of fresh orange juice!

Don’t blame me if you eat more than one order of it *haha coz I have before!!*

5. ESPACE KILIWATCH: If you happen to enjoy vintage clothes shopping, Kiliwatch is a good stop.

Situated along Rue Tiquetonne just off Rue Montorguiel, this huge space is filled up with vintage and used clothing– dresses, shirts, skirts, coats; bags, and accessories. It is a fun place to scour for good finds. They even have vintage fur coats and stoles. And I was also able to get a real fun colorful coat 😉 There are more vintage shops in the area but this is one of the biggest one.

Take time out to explore Rue Montorgueil and also go check out the nearby 3rd district of Marais (start from Georges Pompidou)– there are even more places to see and to eat there, but unlike the 2nd arr., the Marais is more popular than the 2nd. Spend an afternoon in these areas to explore. It’s a different side of the Paris that we all know 😉
