On my quest to be “healthy” + a closet tour

Something strange came over me about a week ago. Somehow, after having connected with some old friends through events and finding out how they have managed to look so svelte and live very “healthy” lives made me rethink about the way I live my life.

Four days ago, I started running.

No, not running away from bills *guffaw… oh how tempting the thought hahaha.. tsk!*. I mean, really RUNNING- running!

So yes, Mrs.T, ever the person averse to any form of strenuous exercise that would end in sweat, sweat, and more sweat, started running.

I know, right? It’s so unlike me to start another form of exercise, especially after I’ve so conveniently dropped a good regimen (bikram yoga 3x a week). I realize that bikram, though perfect for losing weight, was not really giving me enough “me” time. *Guffaw* I can’t believe I used the words “Me time” *guffaw… selfish! hahaha!*

But seriously, I wanted to be alone sometimes too– to listen to my music, and to just seriously “work off” all the sinful food I’ve been treating myself 😉

Take for instance, the dinner tonight which was hosted by fellow bag hag, Chibs. 😉 Her hubby Mr.A brought back super yummy lechon (roasted pig) from Cebu. Now I’m not one who’d profess undying love for lechon. After all, there was a time in my life when I “eliminated” pork from my diet (I abstained for a good 2 years).

But then, the thought of hanging out with my old travel mates (more on this soon) was incentive enough for me to go. Until I arrived Chibs’ house and saw this “feast” Mr.A had prepared for us.
For a very brief moment, I felt so sorry for the pig in front of me. Reminded me of the reason I stopped eating pork for awhile actually. But then, in the spirit of camaraderie and *cough* growing hunger, I succumbed 😀

I sat right in front of the lechon. Boy, Mr.A was the best host (next to Chibs of course), as he took it upon himself to serve us the lechon (let me tell you, lechon ain’t like turkey where you can just carve it piece by piece and serve nicely hehehe).

I’d be a total hypocrite if I said the lechon was good. Because it was way better than good. It was excellent!! This Cebu lechon is actually not like the other lechons I’ve ever had. It just tasted so good!

I skipped the rice and just focused on an all- protein, *cough* all cholesterol dinner 😉

We also had salt- and- pepper blue marlin steak, grilled prawns, steamed crabs, and kilawin (I think this is known also as a kind of fish ceviche).
Let me tell you, I was unashamedly eating and eating and eating, and I still continued eating even after everyone was already having tea/ coffee and desserts.

I ended up nearly “cleaning” out the lechon.Gawd, I sure can eat! *burp*

After the wonderful meal, Chibs took us on a tour of her lovely house. And of course, “my” tour included her bag closet 😉THIS is a REAL baghag’s closet. Seeing her closet made me realize, I am, and will always just be, a baghag wannabe! *sob* Hahaha.

Seriously, this woman has an awesome bag collection. I was thinking of burning incense in front of her bag closet. You know, as a sign of respect for the bag temple 😉 But then Chibs would have my head burning on a stick if I did that, so I didn’t even bring up the idea *muwahaha*.

Anyway, after the wonderful night with these friends, I went home and was immediately overcome with guilt as I got out of my car. I ate WAY TOO MUCH!! 🙁

So together with my trusted JRT, our other family “baby” named Elvis, we ran 🙂

For a good 45 minutes. (Confession: It wasn’t really pure running for me as I don’t think I have developed the stamina for it– but I’d run a block, walk 2 blocks ;D)

Now, I feel a little better. (Confession #2: At the back of my mind, I was still thinking if I regret not having taken cenical… Ok, I’ve never tried the stuff yet and worry that it might be too “lethal” on the southern hemisphere *err… ewww haha* so perhaps I should just strike out that idea altogether… for now anyway hehehe).

Soooo, tomorrow, I think I will stick to an all- veggie or all fish diet. Kuretake perhaps? 😀

Shoutout: Thank you so much Chibs and Mr.A, and nice to see Claudy, Dex, Juls, and Mench! Til the next time !

P.S. Apologies to vegans and animal rights people if I offend you with photos of our meal 😀 It was too good and too memorable a dinner not to discuss here on my blog!!

P.P.S. I need a good pair of RUNNING shoes. Can anyone recommend good ones? I want ones that have good “suspension”!!

P.P.P.S. Mrs. Jackie T, thebaghag (yours truly :D) is now on TWITTER! I just don’t really know how to work my way around twitter much yet. Heck I don’t even know how to “find” myself there. Anyway, as far as I know, the website is http://twitter.com/thebaghag. 🙂

  1. For good running shoes, I highly recommend New Balance shoes. Great selections are availabe for all and their shoes are very comfortable. FYI, New Balance (NB)shoes can run various widths compared to Nike or Adidas. I’ve been running/living on my fifth pair of New Balance. Lots of luck with the shoe hunt, Mrs T.

As always, I enjoyed the read. Mmm, lechon. I wish I could meet you in person or even have a glance in awe when I make my trip to the Philippines in ten days.

    Warm regards,
    Mary Dittrich

  2. I use Nike Zoom it’s a version of the Shox. It has really good suspension and support around the ankle. I run in them for more than 5Km and I must say, they are very comfortable. 🙂

  3. Hello!
There’s this website called thebullrunner.com where the author writes about her running shoes reviews and runs.
Since you’re on Twitter you’ll want to follow @LouisVuitton_US

  4. now that is really a feast in every sense of the word… sana you had pics of the desserts too to make it complete 🙂 … i’ve never been a fan of lechon because of my cholesterol. but for you, i think once in a while is ok… you can always make up for the indulgence in the following days. i also love to eat but i HATE exercising, so now i’m just trying to stick to the south beach diet. i also tried xenical before but wouldn’t recommend it to you because nakakasira siya ng poise especially for someone like you who has a lot of public functions… i won’t go into details anymore…

  5. You are so cute, its Xenical, not Cenical. Are you aware of what it really does to your body? It isn’t something you wish you have taken once it takes effect. Ha ha ha!

  6. Running is the best! but i’m just starting too, don’t want to force the knees, so brisk walking is the order of the day.

lechon, crabs & shrimp! grabe! walang nahilo??LOL

ang cute ni elvis, love that spot on his back 🙂 hugs!

  7. Hi Mrs. T! Try the Reebok shoes with the new EasyTone technology. It tones your glutes and leg muscles even by just walking on them. Sorta like the Fitflops. I know they’re Reebok but they do look good.

  8. Basically I like (1) nike, (2) asics and (3) adidas, in that order, though there are a lot of great running shoes from new balance and mizuno. If you want to be technically sure of the right shoes for your feet, you can go to specialty running stores like Second Wind on Maginhawa st. at UP Village and Runnr at the The Fort so they can check your gait analysis, and the type of arch you have and all that stuff you need for a good pair of shoes.
