More Singapore La!

Yay, more on Singapore today 🙂 I didn’t forget! Besides, I want peeps to see what I ate, where I went.. and what I bought *muwahaha.. coz I’m a braggart haha*.
The bunch and I ate at Chatterbox (finally!!) for lunch. I was going to have my Chicken day, and it was at Chatterbox which was just on the top floor of our hotel, Meritus Mandarin.

The kids didn’t want “bland” chicken (as they so eloquently put it haha. Tsk. They just don’t know how to eat this hahaha), so they opted for Fish and Chips. I must admit it was very good! But oye, we wanted potato chips. They served fries. No matter, it was good too!

You all know what a glutton I am, so I ordered 2 entreés for me. Besides, our 2nd order of Chicken Rice was free because they had an ongoing American Express promo (if you pay by Amex, your 2nd chicken rice order is free).

I had Bak Kut Teh rice. Also known as Pork Spareribs soup with goji berries (yes, Aina, you got it right :D) This soup was FANTASTIC. I could just go back to Singapore right this minute for another bowl of this soup. *I miss this soup so much!!*

And then there’s the Mandarin Chicken (they call it Mandarin Chicken here in Chatterbox but it’s more popularly known as Hainanese Chicken. I hope I’m correct!).

Served with Chicken stock rice, soup, and the 3 dipping sauces Call me a glutton, but I finished EVERYTHING (and my body’s obviously paying for it now… Imagine the carbs… but you know what, it was WORTH it!!)

Price-wise, I think Chatterbox is a little up there. ( I mean, I had SG$5 black chicken soup! SG$5!! But it was a tiny portion compared to the Bak Kut Teh soup) Good thing though, that we had that second chicken rice for free. Or our bill would’ve at least been at least SG$140. 🙁

I was really honestly hoping to go back to Boon Tong Kee for their Hainanese Chicken rice (which is much, much cheaper), but with the kids, it was really almost impossible for us to head there to eat. 🙁 It’s a restaurant that adults can appreciate more than kids. (At least that was how I remembered Boon Tong Kee).

After our meal, we headed to the Singapore Zoo. This trip was really meant for the kids (and no hidden agenda for Mrs.T here 😀 *Honest!!!*).

Orangutan (there were plenty of them all over the zoo treetops!)
Giraffes. We no longer have a giraffe in Manila Zoo, so my kids were happy to see live giraffes again 🙂
DK asked me “Why is the tiger white? Aren’t tigers orange?”
Boy, that got me thinking. And then I answered “Ummm, honey, mommy is not a zoologist so I’m not sure why.” Hahahaha! Ok, that was mean hahaha. I followed up with “Bengali tigers are mostly orange. But sometimes they also have white tigers and these white ones belong to a different species” (thanks to my 2nd DB who knows all the answers to all animal- related questions :D)

We managed to watch only one animal show as we missed all the other shows (we got to the zoo rather late in the afternoon already coz DKs ate sloooow).
We didn’t get to tour the WHOLE zoo anymore since the kids were complaining their feet hurt, so we just took a tram ride 😀 (Shortcut!!).

My younger DK loves zebras 🙂

I was so parched after a whole afternoon so I went into the convenience store and found this 🙂 Purple Yakult!I’m a fan of Yakult since I was a little one. I still take *umm more like steal* Yakult from my kids’ stash hhehe. Shhh. I wonder why we don’t have this flavor in Manila.

Actually, there are many other things not available in Manila. And tomorrow, I’ll post a few for you 🙂

  2. Hi MRs. T, Our family also enjoyed our trip to singapore last year. Looking at your photos makes me want to go back. Singapore Zoo is so clean.
    More trips and more photos!
    Mommy M

  3. Next time u come round to Singapore again, u might want to try the “Five Star” Hainanese Chicken rice along East Coast Road. There’s a Boon Tong Kee a few stalls down if u change ur mind but personally, I think “Five Star” is better. 🙂

Oh yes, and its WAYYY cheaper than chatterbox too!

  4. Hello! I just want to say that I love reading this blog and was pleasantly surprised to find out (through my mom who reads this too) that I’ve met you before. I used to teach your kids. 🙂 Never really had the courage to comment until now because I felt so shy.

I especially liked this entry since the zoos here in Manila (or at least the ones I’ve seen!) don’t look anything like that. The animals there look so healthy! 🙂

  5. hi mrs. t. our family owns yakult here in the phils. and there are a lot of reasons why we don’t have flavored yakult here. let’s just say it’s a biz decision. but a new product is on its way 🙂 – vds

  6. @ Marcelina: I would’ve loved to come but I’m not flying out anytime soon this month as I have work engagements in the Philippines all month long 🙁 Perhaps next time when I get an earlier invitation, I might go 🙂 Thanks for thinking of me!!

@ MommyM: Totally agree– Singapore Zoo IS soooo clean 🙂

@ sweeet: YEAH! I should try that indeed! Thank you for that tip!! I want to go back so bad again — just to eat! 😀

@ … : Oh wow! Ok, which teacher are you 🙂 Please send me a private email and let me know! I’d love to know (or ill never sleep hahaha) As for the animals in SG Zoo, it’s true– they look real healthy and I think very happy. I remembered our Manila Zoo’s elephant and was saddened. We only have ONE elephant in Manila and he/she just looks so sad 🙁

@ VDS: I’m a yakult fan (a big one) and I would occasionally steal my DKs’ yakults hahaha. Excited to hear about your new product! Do let us know here 🙂

    @ MrsMartinez: It’s grape flavoured!!! 🙂

@ Dea: Me too! I love their mutant size 😀
