Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong: Five Star All the Way!

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a fantastic weekend 🙂

Before I delve into my main topic, I just have to share something 🙂 I had a great weekend and have taken up a new sport. Thanks to Carlos Celdran of Celdran Tours (yes, THE famous Carlos Celdran :D) I have found that this new sport is called “pus- lancing” *thanks for telling me the “official” name of my umm… “sport”, Carlos. Hahaha… eeeewwww*  Yes, and I have to credit the very busy wasps/ bees of Hong Kong Disneyland for my new sport *which does not make me lose weight at all, by the way*  hahaha 🙂

Ok, on a more serious note, I had a fantastic week in Hong Kong a few days ago with my 2nd kid. It was really good to have bonded with the little one. And I’d like to add that my oversized Mulberry Alexa was a most wonderful travel companion with my DK! The short top “strap” of the bag was even enough for it to slip through the luggage trolley pull-up handle!
This was great because it left my other hand free to hold onto DK as I lugged the trolley 🙂 And the detachable shoulder strap of the Mulberry Alexa made it extra easy to use while I walked around the streets of HK with the little one– although I do wish they would make a thicker strap, like the Hermes evelyne, so it won’t be so “painful” on the shoulder after awhile.
DK and I stayed at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Connaught Road, Central while in Hong Kong. This much I will say– by far, this was a much, much better hotel than Conrad or Island Shangrila if you are talking about luxurious hotels in Hong Kong. (I have yet to stay at the Four Seasons, but by far, Mandarin Oriental, HK is THE best)
I must give a lot of credit to two people who made the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong stay unforgettable:  Charisse Chuidian of Mandarin Oriental Manila, and Danny Lai of Mandarin Hong Kong. They made sure that the stay was topnotch and fantastic, and indeed it was!
Charisse had initially so kindly offered to arrange for my accommodations through Danny, but ever the efficient travel agent I had, Claudette of CV Travel already prepared all my bookings, including my airfares within the hour that I had made my decision to fly to HK and stay at the Mandarin (talk about lightning speed fast!! :D)
I’ve often heard about the good rooms at the Mandarin through friends of my parents, but back then we either stayed at Island Shangri-la or at the Conrad (and way before Pacific Place, we always stayed at The Regent Hotel, and on one or two occasions, The Peninsula). My parents chose Pacific Place because Central’s stores close a bit earlier, and more importantly, you couldn’t access the malls in Central without walking on the streets (open- air) to get there– and if it rains, big problem, right?

Well, now that I’ve stayed at the Mandarin, here’s what I discovered–

  1. You don’t even need to walk out on the streets  “in the open” anymore if you wish to go through malls like Landmark, Prince Building, and even the IFC. All these malls are accessible through covered walkways from The Mandarin, Hong Kong. So that was a very big plus!
  2.  I confess to loving hotel toiletries when they’re…. well, branded 🙂 Remember Etro toiletries from Villa Serbelloni, Hermes from the Ritz Moscow? Okay, well Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong also uses Hermes toiletries! *woohoo heaven for this hotel toiletries- napper :D*  This time though, I was kind. I just took the Hermes lotion and conditioner 😀 *beams*
  3. The Mandarin Oriental HK’s shopping arcade houses the most exquisite jewelery stores. I was drooooling each time I passed by those boutiques!!! It was heaven 😀
Now, without further ado, I am sharing photos of my room at the Mandarin Oriental,  Hong Kong
There were 2 beds in the room– one was for my DK 🙂 Mandarin Oriental HK wanted me to sleep in my own bed 🙂 it was great, but in the end, after DK fell asleep on the separate bed to this super nice view *luckkky, eh?*,
I carried my little one to my big bed 🙂
Watched a lot of television before I went to sleep. And I really slept. I loooved the Mandarin bed. It made sleeping a luxury!! 🙂
Earlier during bath time– DK couldn’t decide where to bathe– in the spacious shower stall with a marble seat, or in the tub overlooking the bedroom.
You see this mirror in the off center of this photo above? That’s a swivel mirror which has a television monitor behind it. It swivels to the tub area so you can watch tv while you soak in the tub!
Obviously, the tub won DK over hahaha.
So that was that. A most pleasant stay at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong. The rate I paid for was very reasonable, and was worth every cent. Because in a city that never sleeps, I was able to sleep– and sleep soundly I did, at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong!  *Wow that sounded like a tag line for an ad hahaha*
Thank you again, Charisse + Danny for the lovely Mandarin Oriental hotel welcome!!  And incidentally, I do want to share this with food lovers and peeps who absolutely adore Cantonese cuisine (me included):
Tin Hau, Mandarin Oriental Manila’s Premier Chinese Restaurant, will be hosting the Cantonese Festival which is essentially a week- long food festival featuring three award- winning chefs from Hong Kong’s acclaimed Super Star Seafood Restaurant (famous for their Stonefish dish!!!).
The festival will run from May 24 to May 30 only, so you will need to make reservations for this fast– call (+632) 750- 8888 or email momnl-fb@mohg.com! Also to chefs -wannabe who want to learn how to make dimsum specialties, these 3 top chefs will preside over a cooking class on May 29, starting at 9am. So do call the Mandarin Oriental Manila for more details. This is really a must- attend festival. Yes, I am going, and I plan to bring the family with me!!
