I have not written about bags in a bit and today’s featured celebrity bag got me all excited. I always vote for the oldie but goodie and the Hermes Kelly of Uma Thurman is the perfect example of a bag that is definitely not going out of season anytime soon– not in our lifetimes! 🙂
She seems to be carrying a 40cm (Uma is very tall so I think the 35cm would look rather small on her despite the “bat winging” of her olive kelly) and quite frankly I’m falling head over heels for this size– over the more popular 35cm.
I love the etoupe color on a 40cm Kelly over the olive though.
Although I would’ve honestly preferred a brighter color if I were given the choice of a 40cm though to make it look less of a work bag. Or at least to make it more casual.
Speaking of Hermes Kelly bags, I still remember the time I would ask about them in reputable second hand shops in Hong Kong and they would command prices a lot less than the birkins. But it seems the prices have already matched those of birkins.
I love the explanation given to me years ago as to why the Kelly was a much more “affordable” bag than the Birkin in the secondary market– “Because the bag is more for old ladies” was what was relayed to me by one of the sales associates. I laugh at it now (although back then I was a little taken aback hahaha– it meant I was part of that old ladies club haha). But now that explanation is no longer valid because even the younger women prefer the Kelly over the Birkin!
You peeps know my preference (Kelly over Birkin! Raise your hand if you chose the same bag :D), and I usually like to request for the sportier shoulder strap from Hermes which makes the Kelly all the more travel- friendly than the birkin.
Yes, you can order this shoulder strap from Hermes although there is no telling how long it will take for them to make it. But it’s worth the wait, I can tell you that much 🙂
