Bloomingdales and CHRISTMAS EVE 2006 Dinner

After our Union Square jaunt, we headed toward Bloomingdales for dinner. We had to go see the new food court. My friend told me it was a bit like City Super of Hong Kong. Heck, right that time, we just really wanted to eat because the kids were real fussy *hunger pangs haha, we are such irresponsible parents*.

At Bloomingdales, the food court was a floor below ground. And it was FULL. But we made our way to a 12- seater table, and were comfortable til we realized we had to buy our own food *ok are we snoots or what! hahaha*. So DH and I ended up at this Italian place called Pasta Moto, where they had all these yummy- looking sandwiches, reminiscent of the ones DH and I ate at the many Autogrills in Italy *hehehe*.

And here’s my dinner. VERY yummy Insalata Caprese, and an al funghi pizza. VERY, VERY good 🙂 I was a happy, tummy-happy, hag 🙂

We had gelato after dinner too! Nothing beats freshly made gelato!

Bloomies was closing at 10pm, so I hurriedly ate my dinner and headed over to the bag section *where else!*.

Jimmy Choo Zebra Print Ramona bag. I have had my eye on this bag since I featured the bag awhile ago. I normally hated animal prints because I just find them so tacky on me, but I was strangely drawn to the bag. But when I saw the bag, I was sold– this bag is NOT for me. The ponyhair on the bag was disheveled. I am SO not liking it. And thank goodness. Hoping for a new Balenciaga is tough enough. I am loving the emerald green 🙁 *sniff big time*

Fendi B Bag miroir in silver and in gold. I likey likey, but I’ll be kicking myself in the head if I had gotten these two bags, especially since I already have a silver miroir Speedy (by the way, Vuitton didn’t have any miroir speedies here. Just the keepall).

And on Christmas Eve, we stayed home half the day, then had dinner at this wonderful steakhouse called Alexander, located all the way in San Jose (off Vallco Park Mall).

This place serves aged beef, and is supposed to be one of the best steakhouses in Northern California. So when we arrived, what greeted us was slabs and slabs of aged raw beef! *Ugh, I lost my appetite.. but that was temporary hehe*. The prices for the beef here are remarkably high *gulp*.
We had a table for 14 people– we actually have one side of the restaurant to ourselves– behind this area 😀 I’ve heard plenty about this restaurant, so I could not wait to check out the menu.

Prime Rib (specialty): US$29 (for a 14 oz). That is what I will get. Until of course our super nice waiter told us about their seasonal special- TRUFFLES.

I am a lover of good *cough expensive* food. And at the sound of “truffles”, I shrieked. Waiter says “finally someone reacts with glee to truffles because all night I’ve mentioned it, no one really picked up on it.” And you ask why I did react? Because I’ve been wanting to have truffles for the longest time. I’ve had truffles on cheese, truffle bits on risotto, but never truffles. Not the big thing. In fact, I’ve never even seen a whole truffle in person. But this much I’ll tell you *food education 101 here*, white truffles cost as much as $1,000 per pound!

THIS is what white truffles look like. And I have decided to have truffle shavings on my prime rib– for an additional US$75 *dies.. I know, highway robbery at US$75?! But better pay that than buy a poundful of it!*

I smelled my steak AND truffles from when it was being brought to me. I really can’t wait for this. I am more excited with truffle shavings than the steak itself! This is really a treat for me. I ordered a side dish of creamed spinach along with my meal *though it later proved to be too much for one person to handle*.

DROOOOOOL……. The steak was juicy and tasty, and the truffles are heaven on the tastebuds!

DH ordered the same thing as I did, but my DB decided to order the 2 lb (yes, 2 pound) center cut angus bone-in rib eye steak. It looked SOOOO juicy. I could stay in this restaurant for a week and although it would’ve been total fat farm, I just knew I would have loved it… then go with a meat drought diet forever haha.

For dessert, DH and I shared a smores dessert with gingerbread ice cream.

I loved the restaurant. The food was really EXCELLENT. Even my DT got a banana flavored cotton candy! Service was superb. Our bill was astronomical though (don’t ask–I was shocked, stunned, and nearly fainted!). But really, it was a Christmas eve dinner that we would never forget. I was thinking on the way back home that we should’ve also ordered foie gras *hahaha cholesterol death!*.

Whee, it’s already past 12:00 midnight and it’s officially CHRISTMAS!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE, Hags and all who read this space 🙂

Tomorrow, we are venturing out to Southern California! So it’ll be a verrrrry loooong drive *7 hours*– and extra long with kids *hello circus!!!*, but I’m sure it will be soo fun 🙂

I will be blogging again when I get there. Hopefully we get some shopping when we’re there 🙂 *BOXING DAY SALE!* In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed this entry as much as I enjoyed writing it *especially the foood!!*

xx
