Bags for this economy

Oh. My. God.

For those who haven’t checked the stock market in the Philippines in the last year or so, here’s a little update. (See I try to cover anything and everything under the sun here *hehe know-it-all*)The Philippine Stock Market had been taking serious beatings over the last few days (weeks even). In fact, the market had to be suspended the other day because it was taking a nose dive (to its death almost!). If the market is really an accurate indicator of our economy, then I can say that we’re stuck in a sinking ship. *Titanic!!*

But oye oye, Mrs.T is an optimist of sorts, and yesterday I actually prayed that the market will rebound today (hehe it’s also self-serving).

And so today, the market rebounded, gained about 4%. Anyway I’m not going to spend another paragraph talking about the equities market and how good/bad investments they are at this time of economic adversity.

I’m segueing to the topic of bags, of course. During economic downturns, the luxury market also gets affected– although when I went to Louis Vuitton a few weeks ago, I saw no signs of recession in that House :D. So when we peeps think cash is King now, we also must attempt to save *WooHoo the “S” word!*

With saving in mind, here are some bags that won’t burn big holes in your pocket. I know, I know, they’re not “designer” bags, but you know what, sometimes, a non-descript bag is what we all need in our closet.

Anthropologie Overcast suede bag.

What a befitting name for a bag for use during this time. Hahaha we have an overcast economy, so you use your Overcast bag 😉 The suede is ruched, and has an exterior zipped pocket. Very roomy inside and perfect to carry since you can either use the shorter or the longer strap. Though we already know that suede isn’t really the best leather suited for our tropical climate, this bag is pretty hard to resist, with its pricetag of only US$198. (In the grand scheme of things, US$198 is better than US$1,980, right? :D) Available at Anthropologie.com

Anthropologie Convertible tote. Now this bag is versatile. Again in a somber color of gray, this will blend well with almost everything in your closet– which makes it easy for you to carry this bag on a daily basis. It’s a tote and it also becomes a hobo, or if you really want, you can probably sling this across your body 🙂 Versatility is the name of the game these days. Priced at US$228 at Anthropologie.com

Anthropologie Quilted Corona bag. This is the top of the line bag for today. Well, because for one, the price is already steep compared to the other two bags above– this one will set you back by US$448. Another gray bag– but this time in a lighter “cloudy” shade. I like this bag in particular because it sort of reminds me of the Chanel cabas tote. This has a little more creativity injected into the style because there is no outright copying of the style of Chanel. And the leather looks really buttery soft too. Loving this bag a lot at Anthropologie.com

That’s all for now baghags, I have to get ready to write another bag article for Inquirer since it has been a few months since my last article came out. Hehehe I’m such a slacker. But hey I got sick… *good excuse, right?* I actually don’t even have my voice back yet, and every night, I start coughing incessantly. It’s really insane since my coughing makes me stay awake half the night *sigh*. So I really hope this whole weekend I get to rest.

  1. hi. first off, let me just say: i luv your blog!

now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, can i make a request? can you do a feature on the man-purse? pretty please?

  2. Hello Mrs. T,

Another way to save is to join these online discounted designer sites that sell stuff cheaper than retail. I joined about six of these sites based in the US and have had several good deals already (e.g. Black Turnlock Hobo from Olivia Harris for USD99, Grace Sun shirts for USD20 etc). I even won a pair of Tom Ford sunglasses during one of the many promotions these online sites have.

  3. Mrs. T, is the Marc by Marc Jacobs Little Miss Marc Goes Green tote (the one with the penguin design with the “Save my Pole”) worthy of its price tag?

I bought one at Greenbelt 5 , while my friends loved it, they also scrutinized how it’s not worth the money.

I just need your opinion. 🙂 Thanks and keep the posts coming.

  4. hi Mrs T. since you have mentioned Chanel, i have a question for you: are their Ligne Luxe bags still hot? i know they were a while back, but is it still just as chika now? or has it past its prime just like the Fendi B bag, Chloe Bracelet or Luella Giselle? didn’t you have one? do you still have/love/use it? i really admire your taste and would love to know what you think. thanks for your time.
