Back Home!! :)

Wheee!! I had a great mini vacation with DH and the kids! Got back to Manila this morning. I think I’m about 5 lbs. heavier 😉 (this despite not having been able to enjoy to the fullest the amazing gastronomic delights that Singapore has to offer me. I was with my children, so a trip to KFC was mandatory hahaha ugh).

Anyway, I am very pleased to inform you all that the Kamiseta luggage which I had gotten, survived the trip 🙂 🙂 It survived with Flying Colors!! 🙂 *Yay!!**woooooHooooo!!!* It got a little dirty on the corners, but after a good wipe, it was clean again 🙂 I am so happy to report that “she” has no dinks of any sort! 🙂 So this is really a very good piece to get– I also got so many compliments on “her”. This became the default luggage of my kids, so they were only too happy to lug it around at the hotel!
Having stepped onto Singapore soil just minutes after our plane landed, I was already thinking of ways to get to restaurants recommended by our family friend, AileenO, and foodie StevieV, when these 2 Singapore Airlines flight attendants walked passed us.

🙁 *Scowl*

*Staring at those wispy waistlines* How can I think about food now that I’ve seen those waistlines? 🙁 🙁 *Sigh* I guess some women are just born slim and shapely, while others *cough.. like me* are born with “straight” cut bodies– no shapely waists. *Big sob* I’ll never be a Singapore Airlines flight attendant *hehehe…oh well, there goes my prospective career* Bah 🙁 I will work on my thick waist *by hook or by crook muwahahaha* when I get back to Manila, I thought to myself. (I want the Singapore Airlines flight attendants’ girdles!!!)

CV Travel booked us at Meritus Mandarin Hotel, as I haven’t been to Singapore in over 5 years and don’t remember where’s a good hotel to stay– something strategically located, as I have our 2 kids with us. I’m glad that we were even able to get seats on the plane as this trip was really planned at the very last minute (thanks DH! I really needed this break!). I loved the location of our hotel– right beside Takashimaya (where there’s a toy shop haha– both for me and for the kids hahaha).

We were booked for a premier room in the executive floor (36th floor), next to the business center. I loved our room. It was a comfortable size. It was also very cozy– conducive to sleep :D. The room is very new, and looks like it was just renovated.

We had a view of Orchard Road and the side of Takashimaya.
After DH and the kids were settled in, we changed bags (DH and I had to carry messenger bags filled with DKs‘ stuff!) and were on our way. We took a cab to one of the older electronics malls in town, and before we knew it, rain was pouring. HARD!!

It was a good thing DH and I brought umbrellas with us. It was thunderstorms galore, as predicted by wunderground.com ! The kids were squealing at the time we alighted from our cab and literally ran into the mall (with umbrellas of course– in the process, DH and I were wet, but thank goodness the kids were dry).

UGH. We went into the WRONG mall! Natch, I couldn’t be bothered to take the camera out for photos anymore because 1. It was pouring and I could damage my camera 2. We ended up carrying both our kids just so they won’t step into water puddles.

We went out of the old mall, and found a crosswalk which would take us to the next mall. In pouring rain, we all waited as the pedestrian “traffic” light turned green. DH and both kids stood a few feet behind me (in a roofed area) as I stood close to the main street. Cars were passing by and before I knew it, I was SPLASHED with water from a cab that passed this *invisible– ok, invisible to me coz I obviously didn’t see it… haha getting old. Bad eyesight* huge water puddle.

^?!?@?!@!

YES, I was ALL wet!! Of course the kids were laughing, while I was, well, dripping! *Grumbles* It was surreal. I’ve seen this happen in movies to actors and actresses but I never thought I’d be the recipient of a very “Wet” welcome 😉 It was all in good fun, and I’m sure my kids will never stop telling this story to the people they meet hahahaaha. 😉 *Don’t you all wish there was a photo to show how dripping wet I was? 😀 HAH!!*

We finally got to the right mall, and we headed to the fast food area, where I ordered me a steaming hot soup. Yep, Black Chicken with Herbs soup. For just SG$5.00! I looooove this soup (even if to most of you, this soup might look less than delectable :D) I’m Chinese, and proud, and have always had this soup when I was young. So I’m not averse to black soup, nor to black chicken *unless we raised the chickens ourselves* 😉

Wheee, I was finally in Singapore with my kids (it was their first time) 🙂 I had also been looking forward to at least one Hainanese Chicken Rice meal, and I can tell you, it didn’t disappoint when I finally had it 🙂

P.S. I will resume work tomorrow and will resume acknowledgment of more donors 😉 I was told there were a few more that came in 🙂 And special thanks to FinaL for that!

  1. the black chicken is called “si but” right?? omg, its been years since I had one of those. My classmates and I were talking about it a few days ago. they complain how it tastes (they don’t like daw and it smells awful) and how their moms pester them to drink it… all I remember was this bitter taste. the rest, I forgot na.

  2. Hi, Mrs. T. How do they make the chicken black? I’m curious. 🙂

By the way, are those shredded young ginger strips?

  3. Oh, you are now back! Glad you had fun with your boys! Despite that “wet” welcome! Hahaha! Thanks for posting already that the Kamiseta luggage was all well and good! Glad to know it survived the trip so I would head out to the mall tomorrow to get one already as I am preparing for a trip to HK with two toddlers (daughters) in tow. I would make it as their luggage!
Post soon what “new baby” did you get in Sgp!

  4. “YES, I was ALL wet!! Of course the kids were laughing, while I was, well, dripping! *Grumbles* It was surreal.”

Instead of feeling bad, the whole scenario just made the experience more fun and memorable for you and the whole family… so precious…

  5. Hi, just wanted to ask if those Kamiseta hard case luggages fit the height and weight restrictions of airlines? just wondering if they’re heavy on its own….

  7. Hi Mrs. T,

I bought the same luggage from Kamiseta and have still to use it. I was wondering- did you check it in or just used it as carry-on? Thanks…

  8. try the hainanese chicken rice at the hotel CHATTERBOX, sooo good! located at the top floor, enjoy your stay at the meritus,we loved it there:)

  9. Heard that those Singapore Airlines flight attendants have a 1 size fits all uniform meaning if you can’t squeeze yourself in them–you are out!!!:(

  10. @Anon re: black chicken– they use this black herb (?) called See Boot (Si but– PBB is correct :D). Those strips aren’t ginger, they’re also some kind of a root herb of some sort. There are chinese names for these but I never knew what they were. I think “dong gwai” or something? haha. I could be grossly mistaken.

@PBB: It’s not bitter! Unless they didn’t put salt in the soup 🙂 I used to have this black chicken soup as well as si but duck soup. I love it. Until today, I still love it 🙂

    @Aina, McDreamer: Thanks!

@Amanda: have fun with your girls 🙂

@Lyn: We handcarried it going to Singapore and we decided at the last minute to check it in when we were flying back. It was packed tight with clothes (haha mostly laundry bags). Make sure you fill the luggage up if you want to check it in 🙂 At least there’s support from the inside. Bottom line though, I love it– it has 4 wheels too so it’s easy to “wheel” it around (as opposed to the normal 2 wheels).

    @Anon chatterbox: I DID 🙂 🙂

@Anon Singapore uniform: That sucks 🙁 I’d probably never be able to fit into them– in my whole lifetime!! I was told their waistlines were around 23 inches! I wonder how true this is! Boggles the mind how they can sit through the whole flight (long haul) if they were wearing girdles!!

  11. @Aina: It should be available in hawkers’ stands. Gosh I need to go back to Singapore for serious food experience. I loved hanging out with my kids but as you know, kids are not too adventurous yet with food 🙂 They were overly grossed out by the black soup haha

  12. @Cartina: I have the carry-on style, it’s not heavy at all 🙂 You can just wheel it around easily (4 wheels).

@Kong-chu: Ugh no 🙁 🙁 I didn’t even go to all floors of ION coz my kids were complaining that they walked too far yadda yadda. I vow to go back to Singapore 😀 😀 😀 And re: the MJ catalog, sadly I didn’t even get to go to Kinokuniya 🙁 *Sob*

  13. Hopefully, when you do go back, you and I can be in Singapore together (well, I will have my hubby in tow, of course). – it will be my first time there, my husband loves Singapore. And, I cannot wait to go to the hawkers’ stalls and sample their wares, go to the Indian stores for couture and accessories, go to the Science Center and Takasimaya among other places.

  14. Mrs T,

Glad you are back. Sounds like an awesome time at Singapore.

If it makes you feel any better, they probably have varicose veins from standing all the time. 😀 Atleast you have the freedom to come and go as you please on your flight/job. And they’re probably away a lot from families, too.

  15. i plan on visiting Singapore this october. its my first time. i bought a northwest ticket from a friend of mine for $200.00 . so all i need is hotel. im planning spending $400.00 for a 3-4 day stay just for accomodations..MAX! little budget person here. lol

so anyway hows the weather there around that time? is it hot? cold? humid?

  16. Mrs T, I.Y.O, where is the best restaurant the offers si but here in MNL? I’m getting curious again…

  17. Oh and yeah, is that root ginseng? I heard somewhere that they add it to the soup too and add it with the “chicken essence” ?? (not so very sure. anyone, please enlighten me…)
