An All- Around Bag?

An All- Around designer bag. Is there such a bag in existence? Sure there is. For one, if you aren’t one of those baghags that tote around huge-as-a-house bag, then you can easily allow your designer bag to segue from day to night (as in cocktail party) use. I got a text message sometime ago, asking if an LV monogram bag is suitable for use as an evening bag. I really would rather not, because the LV monogram is quite “casual”. I’d go for the epi leather line of LV for evenings. An epi pochette would be perfect 😉

A reader recently posed the question, does the Hermes birkin/ kelly work as a “cocktail party” bag? What an excellent question! What’s my take on this? Quite frankly, a 35cm birkin is way too big to carry during a party, especially if you are wearing something dressy (like a cocktail dress!). (Check out the size difference)

I do think a 30cm birkin would work out as an “evening event” bag though– because of its size. This cyclamen chevre birkin is 30cm. I think it’s small enough for evening events that require “smart casual” attire.

What bag you use for an evening event also depends on your height– and I know, this is rather discriminatory, but sadly it works this way. If you are petite, perhaps a 25cm birkin would work best as an evening bag, as compared to a 30cm birkin. But if you are tall, you will be able to pull off carrying a 30cm birkin. Just make sure too that you don’t stuff the bag too much. Also, I suggest using the “flap” of the bag and belts, as opposed to keeping the bag’s interior exposed (flap tucked in the back). You’d be surprised at how “formal” the birkin can look with the flap closed.

As far as the Hermes Kelly is concerned, I honestly think that you can get away with carrying a 32cm kelly to an evening event. I find the 32cm size by far the most versatile.
The 35cm, though only slightly bigger than the 32cm, seems more suited for daytime use. A black 35cm kelly, though classic and formal, comes across to me as too “corporate” (too “office-y”). I think this is why a lot of women opt for the 32cm size when it comes to Kelly bags. I also would rather go for the rigide style (outside stitching) of the kelly (seen above in blue jean color) simply because it has this more formal look than the retourne (piping, interior stitching).(But this red kelly in retourne is gorgeous… *drool*)

Again, one of the key factors to consider here is, how formal is the event, and what are you wearing? If you are wearing a gown, I’d be insistent that you leave your birkin or kelly at home and go with a nice minaudiere or small clutch. The bigger bags will really ruin your look. No matter how expensive your big bag is. Perhaps a Kelly pochette or a kelly longue would be quite lovely to carry, or the kelly longue even– that’s of course if you have the budget to buy these! (I certainly don’t, so you won’t ever see me carrying the kelly pochette/ longue… unless a kind benefactor comes my way and gifts me with one hahaha)

I hope that answers your question somehow 🙂 How expensive your big designer bag is, is immaterial. And true that you’d want to make the most out of your expensive bag, but there are times that you just need to set that thought aside and leave the bag at home– unless you want to become the newest fashion victim in town 🙂 *Go ahead, unseat me hahaha*

SPECIAL MENTION!!! I need to thank Mr. Rafael Reyes, the Chief Operating Officer of RCBC Bankard, for presenting me with a Platinum Bankard (Credit card!!). Remember how I shamelessly asked for a credit card from him via this blog? Well, he happily obliged! So I’m sooooo happy with this card because well, it’s a BLACK platinum card 🙂 🙂 I promise I will pay my bills on time, all the time hehehe 🙂 Financial crisis or not, this baghag’s not going to let you down 🙂 *woohoo!!!* To apply for your Bankard BLACK credit card now, visit www.bankard.com 🙂

P.S. Old friend BryanB got me outta bed this morning for early lunch. I love B’s new look (goatee and all– it’s so MarcJ haha) Anyway, B, thanks for the food and company! Had fun as always! 🙂 Next time we’re invading Pepper Lunch with CVS, k? I’m so dying to eat there already, but my stomach’s still kinda screwed up from the seared tuna salad I had at a Greenbelt5 restaurant a few nights ago 🙁 The food at this restaurant was delicious as always, only I think the tuna was probably not too fresh because DH also had tummy problems after. We’re much better now though 🙂

P.P.S. Thanks SO MUCH, ChrisL for the super good callos!! (I love playing the food critic here hahaha) We decided to play with the dish by using it as a pasta base, and it was FANTASTIC!!!! Update on ChrisL’s callos (for orders) very, very soon!! 🙂

  3. Hi Mrs. T,

Are there any Prada bags worth P30K-45K that could contain a small make-up kit, a wallet, and a cellphone?

    KD

  4. O Mrs. T I also saw a lady carrying a crocodile birkin in 35cm in brown at a black tie affair. It looked so out of place even if her bag was probably more expensive than the bags of all the other women who attended collectively

  5. Anon on LANCEL: It’s a good brand, and Lancel in Paris is definitely cheaper!

BBMommy: I’ll get back to you on that. I have yet to check with LV. I’m going to LV next week for my one on one for the LV Mon Mono 😉

KD: There are Prada bags in black microfiber that would definitely fit your things. Is the bag to be used for evenings, or as an everyday bag?

  6. yes!!! hermes kelly bags and birkins does not go with evening gowns!!!

i really think it just depends on what the person is wearing for the event.

wether it is day or night!!

    TPO

  7. Mrs. T,

whats your take on exotic skins being “recession proof”?

btw, many birkins swining around Manila Fame yesterday afternoon (3 dames at least)

    all the best.

    closet case cris

  8. Ugh, I know what you mean by the speedy though, it would have to be a mono 25 -brand new to be night worthy. Otherwise, with the 30+, you get the sag and while the sag is nice, it’s very casual.
