Balenciaga is celebrating the Motorcycle’s 10th year in the handbag world. Mulberry’s Alexa is not even a year old (still a baby :D). But comparisons are beginning to be inevitable. True, the styles are different but they’re not completely dissimilar. I’ve had the pleasure of having used both, and I think to an extent I can tell you what I like/ dislike about each bag. So here goes a comparison of the same shape/ same size.
- Comes in different colors– so many choices!
- Comes in different sizes– the original “first” Motorcycle bag has since mutated to include different styles which don’t really deviate much from the original form
- It has a zipper enclosure– it’s “theft- deterrent” compared to open totes
- Quite lightweight (unless you get the “giant”)
- Can be carried on the arms or with that shoulder strap, the shoulders.
- Love the exterior pocket for mobile phone or keys
Balenciaga Motorcycle Dislikes:
- Leather is almost paper thin– scuffs easily, especially on the piping corners (all my old Balenciagas were scuffed in less than 1 month of continued use!!)
- Only one interior pocket
- Too many copies/ fakes of this bag have since surfaced as a result of its popularity
MULBERRY ALEXA
Mulberry Alexa Likes:
- Looks like the classic Mulberry Bayswater (a Mulberry staple), has that signature Mulberry look
- Quite Lightweight
- Comes with a long strap which allows bag for cross-body wear
- 2 interior pockets
- Single handle allows bag to be slipped through baggage trolley handle
- Leather not too thin, making bag more durable
- Bag has double security features– twistlock And 2 snaps
- Bag can be expanded through side “snaps”
- Bag can also be carried on shoulder with the single top strap on the bag
- If you want a more “nondescript” (ok, make that “less mainstream”) handbag of excellent quality, the Mulberry Alexa is it.
- Makes for a perfect travel bag with a child (because you can sling the bag across your body– big plus!)
Mulberry Alexa Dislikes:
- Long detachable strap can be a bit of a pain on the shoulders after it being slung across the body because strap is thin
- Snapping bag straps a bit of a hassle
So peeps, you know why I haven’t stopped singing praises about the Mulberry Alexa. No offense to Balenciaga bag lovers out there (and there are plenty :D), but I am much happier toting the Alexa 🙂 So far, my almost daily use of the bag has not scathed the leather of the bag at all *knock on wood :D*
The numbers above also say it all 🙂
The Mulberry Alexa wins *for me* 🙂 I am actually contemplating on getting another Alexa simply because I love carrying my current one.
P.S. Just had to mention that LUISAVIAROMA.COM carries the Mulberry Alexa. On the same note, LVR is offering a 10% Further Reduction on Sale Items (Promo code: FR10004E) so you might want to check them out 🙂 *Big savings right there!!* (They ship to the Philippines!!!!)
