Weekend Food Blog: A Carnivorous Delight at Il Ciak

Roma. Perfect timing– we were here for Easter Sunday.

Il Colosseo

Said a prayer for the people who matter in my life in one of the churches on Black Saturday

Lit a candle for my Dad

And then attended the Easter Sunday Mass at the Vatican the next day.

Walking to Saint Peter Square

Managed to catch the parade
Now, since it was Easter Sunday, it was time to celebrate!  If you’re a carnivore like I am (I looove my steak), I believe you will want to dine at Il Ciak in Trastevere. My Italian friend had brought me first to Trastevere for dinner, so this time around with the family, I brought them here.
Trastevere’s a good place to find a good restaurant, and Il Ciak was one of those places we chanced upon– because it had begun to rain and we had to take cover! Yes, we lucked out!
The restaurant goes deep into the back
When my siblings saw this, they decided right away that this was where we were going to have dinner.
Are you a serious carnivore? This is your restaurant in Rome.
Ciak serves red meat. Good game meat too! We were with kids so we had to order the standard Carbonara pasta, fearful that they might not like game meat.
VERY good– I would’ve been very satisfied with this. And I’m not normally a Carbonara fan.
Now this dish, I am responsible for 🙂 It’s so delicious!
Trippa Alla Romana (Tripe!)
I would’ve wanted this dish to be spicier and saltier *hahaha and I’d order a side of plain white rice… hahaha ok this is not a Spanish/ Filipino dish but an Italian one. So perhaps a side order of pasta aglio olio would’ve been the perfect companion to this dish. Mmmmm……*
We’re steak people! If you haven’t been able to tell from my past food posts, let it be publicly known now 🙂 We’re always in search of excellent steak. The last steak we had in Florence was not excellent (it was frankly mediocre, but it was more than acceptable) so we had to try the Bistecca alla Fiorentina of Ciak… Florentine steak in Rome, yes.
Florentine Steak
It. Was. Massive. And it was superb! Very, very juicy steak, served al sangue (with blood). I always have my steak the same way of late– sprinkled some rock salt and some freshly ground pepper on top. It was carnivore heaven. *Carnivore heaven = cholesterol hell hahaha*
After having the steak, couldn’t resist ordering the tagliatelle bolognese with wild boar meat. Yep. Was still hungry. (Ey, we walked a LOT, so we were hungry a lot :D)
Tagliatelle Bolognese with Wild Boar Meat
I hate bolognese sauce, I just never cared for it– if it were to be a tomato based sauce, I’d rather have pure pomodoro with basilico. But I must confess, this dish left me wanting more. I don’t know if it was the meat, the sauce, or the fresh tagliatelle, but I will be coming back for this dish again when in Rome.
Panna Cotta with Berries was on their dessert menu, so I just had to order it. My friends and I love panna cotta, so this should be worth a try.
I think the syrup/ sauce might have overpowered the panna cotta a little too much *it was already very sweet and creamy on its own), and the overall flavors overwhelmed me *the sauce was real sweet- was expecting it to be on the tarty side*, but once I isolated the panna cotta itself from the syrup-y sweetness of its neighbors, it was all good.  I can’t expect this to be the restaurant’s best though and it’s totally understandable– the restaurant is known for its meat, not for its dessert.
Ciak is a wonderful restaurant for meat lovers, and is definitely a restaurant I would love to come back to if ever I make a pit stop in Rome again. Ciak is located at the Vicolo del Cinque in Trastevere, Roma.

Have a great Sunday, everyone 🙂
