Travelog: Thebaghag in Singapore (Day 2)

MC and I woke up late on our 2nd day at the Lion City. We were just so pooped from the night before. But we are now all rejuvenated and powered up, and ready to go! *woohoo!*

We went to the next door mall to have our lunch at this nice little cafe by the basement, which served yummy brunch. Shoot me, I don’t remember the name of the place (it’s Marmalade Pantry — thanks to our Singaporean baghags who corrected me :D), but it’s in this Palais Renaissance building (I originally said it’s Palais Royale– thanks again to the lovely Singaporean readers for this info :D) (hehehe doesn’t matter– the building houses Prada, DKNY, and a Puma store… shouldn’t be that hard to find– it’s right beside Orchard Hotel :D).

I was too famished to even think of photographing the menu. We just both wanted to eat, eat, eat!! I ordered the field mushroom and emmenthal cheese omelette, and downed the meal with chai tea. It was sooooo good!

Apres brunch, we headed toward this shop called Yuli, which had all these fantastic jewellery pieces on their show window. Here are a pair of chandelier diamond earrings set in black gold, then there was the necklace as well as that spectacularly bling bangle (oh geez, I better focus. We don’t wanna expand our “desires” to jewellery too, or darnit, we’d seriously break the bank!!).

We decided to go to the Duty Free Shop (That HUGE DFS by Scott’s Road) where there also was Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and Fendi among others. There were lots of tourists at DFS. Hermes there had a box leather 32cm Kelly, but no birkins *awwww*.

Then we went to Far East Shopping Centre on Scott’s Road as well. There are literally TONS of accessories stores like Princesa and shoe stores. Lots of nice shoes and stuff, but I was driven on not spending my measly travel allowance on anything today. Thanks to the powers of self-preservation (of my finances), I was spared from all the purchasing sins in this mall (oh and how I could just go wild with spending– honestly there were sooo much good stuff in this mall… tsk.)

MC had to meet up with her colleague shortly after we had our walkabout, so I was pretty much left for a few hours, in which I took the opportunity to go into Wisma Atria. My DB had asked me to get him the new Sony Ericsson P990i phone, but when I got to the Sony store, they said they had presold the phone and that it was not really officially launched yet. Drat. So much for getting him that phone. So anyway I just decided to walk around here a bit 🙂

There’s an old clothing brand I’ve heard of in the past– Chomel. They had this nice chiffon top that I was itching to try on, but the line at the fitting room was long– so, forget it. Then there was this boutique inside Isetan called Song + Kelly. They had some pretty interesting tops there, but quite pricey for me. (The top I was looking at was priced at SG$295) Then there was also BCBG. Interesting bag there 🙂 I think I had featured this bag in my past TRESORMAKATI blog.

At Wisma Atria, there is also this clothing store called Warehouse, and there’s the usual FCUK.

It was almost time for MC and I to meet up for dinner with CF and her DH, so we headed off to Paragon for our meet-up. CF has graciously asked us what we had wanted to eat, and MC and I were like “we want Chicken rice!!!!”

So CF and her DH picked us up at 7pm sharp and brought us to River Valley Road, where we dined at the restaurant that the boys of this boyband F4 (thanks MC for that 411 hehe) had also dined. This is, as the local folk say, the best place to have Hainanese Chicken Rice.

BOON TONG KEE Little Gourmet
, the restaurant that serves awesome chicken rice. MC has been here before, but woohoo this is a first for me– and let me say this– I LOVE Hainanese chicken rice. My stomach was already growling when we got our seats.

The restaurant was really packed from the inside, so we were quite lucky to have secured a table!

Here’s my svelte roomie, MC, in white pants (and hags, she just gave birth about 1.5 months ago, and she is THAT thin already!! Ugh, I was still a whale when I was 1.5 months into post partum. Geez, some hags are blessed aren’t they :D) with her Balenciaga city bag, and our Singapore host CF in cool lime shorts and a black tank with her Fendi bag 🙂 *Her wonderful DH was still parking the car at the nearby mall– so sweet of him to have dropped us off here first!! We could’ve just walked along with him– Gawd knows I need the exercise, after the daily food binge! :D*

CF ordered the barley juice for us– and it was really tasty. Served cold in a shot glass, I would’ve easily chugged a whole jar down. But I had to restrain myself. Didn’t want our hosts and my roomie to see me acting like a neanderthal 🙂 *shhh and that shall remain under the wraps– pretend you didn’t read the neanderthal line I wrote muwahahaha*.

There were the chickens by the restaurant window There were also a plethora of dishes on the menu to choose from.
Our hosts got right down to (food) business and nailed our main dish. Hainanese Chicken, and an order of the fried tofu. *jump for joy!!* Oh my gawd. I can feel my mouth watering again as I post the photos here. The chicken is THE BEST I’ve EVER had. Those fried tofu– ugh, they melt in your mouth… Tsk. FOOD HEAVEN!!!! Tsk. Now I wanna go baaaaaack!!!! *pout* I wish some company would sponsor me to go back to Singapore *cough cough, hello Singapore Tourism board? Want me to promote your country some more? A free plane ticket and free hotel stay for a few nights at your beautiful city will do quite nicely, thank you 😀 hehehe*

So anyway, back to my food– what’s Hainanese chicken without the seasoned chicken stock rice and a side salad?
*DROOOOOOL* The rice, is SOOO good. I would love to have another order please?! Hehehe (I should stop saying this. I’m supposed to be on a low carb diet– hello!!)

Oh sod it. First thing tomorrow, I am going to scout around for Hainanese chicken and rice… I need these dishes on my larder for my midnight snacks *muwahaha* so help me, food gods 😀

Apres the sumptuous dinner (I LOVE being in Singapore and being with our hosts– PJ on Day 1, and CF+ her DH on Day 2– they have the BEST taste in food. This trip was definitely gastronomically fulfilling!!), we walked up to the Great World City Mall to have Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and talk bags. Oh look they have Zara here too (Zara is everywhere in Singapore hehehe:D)

I think CF’s DH was feeling rather amused that I just rambled on and on and justified bag purchases. He was probably thinking what my own DH was thinking– WHO IS THIS CRAZY WOMAN and WHY is she SOOO obsessed about bags?! *muwahahahaha*

Ok fine, and here it goes again– Hi, I’m Mrs.T, and I’m a bagaholic 😀

Anyway, after the wonderful dinner and post-dinner get together with CF and her uber cool DH, we had to be brought back to our hotel. MC was flying out to Kuala Lumpur the day after, whereas I, had to fly back home to my DH and kids. I knew I was gonna miss Singapore a lot. I honestly never thought I was going to enjoy this trip THIS much, and I really did. MC was great company, and our three hosts were just awesome, awesome, awesome. There was really never a dull moment. Not even for a second!

CF+DH— I owe you both dinner when you come back to Manila, and you guys better take me up on that! MC, come back to Manila and let’s go out again! And PJ— if you are ever in town, let MC know and we will all do dinner!!

Day 3 of Singapore was to be a short and sweet day, where I had to do some last minute run to Paragon Mall before meeting up with my nephew and heading to the airport.

Happy weekend, hags! More on Singapore: Day 3 on my next entry, so stay tuned! 🙂
