Travelog: Montreux (April 2009)

The best photos I took were at Montreux, Switzerland. While I must add that Montreux is possibly one of the most beautiful places come wintertime, spring/ summer time isn’t as crowded, and is not as “lively” a place to visit. But the views are still fantastic. The town is very picturesque.

Life in Montreux is pretty laid back during the low season. Some stores open around 1pm only to close 5 hours later (I know, it’s my kind of “working hours” hahaha). Despite that though, we still had a grand time 🙂 There was a nice street market/ music festival by the lake side and we hung out there.

Montreux by the way, is still part of Switzerland, but the main language spoken here is French (thanks herzog— I was indeed mistaken and you are correct, I did remember speaking French to the shopkeeper! It was in Lugano where I heard everyone speaking Italian :D)

The view from my roomOne word: Breathtaking.

The other side of my room had this view
We took a walk outside our hotel. Mont Blanc was in the distance (it was farther than that, but it was there :D) This was the view from our lakeside walk.

My favorite shot… Montreux at Sunset
A well- stocked crystal shop on the Main Street. Even I was mesmerized with the plethora of available crystals. Some of them I’ve never even seen (or heard of) before.Crystals (I believe it’s calcite) growing inside a permagna clamshell. It’s pretty amazing to see this in person.

This beautiful green crystal cluster *about the size of an open palm* was priced at around EUR 1,360 (Php 88,000!!!). My DSIL who is into crystals, was in heaven 😀

The amethyst crystals you see here really grew that way (with a point) naturally!

HUGE (we’re talking over 16 inches long) crystal!!

I must say, even I had a hard time resisting the urge to buy some crystals. I ended up with something *Mrs.T= low EQ* 😉

A boutique that sold Pucci and other high- end designer labels.
Another shop window with Dior, Versace merchandise.

It’s really funny how they do their window displays. It’s so circa 1980 😀 I love it! It’s like time stood still in Montreux 🙂

I’d love to visit Montreux during wintertime, when the whole town can get blanketed in snow… And hah, maybe I’ll learn to ski again someday 😀

  2. Hi. I went to school in Lausanne and Montreux. Just want to mention that people in Montreux speak French.

    Italian is spoken in Lugano.
