Travelog: Chiang Mai and Dhara Dhevi Hotel, Thailand

It’s the start of fashion month again and it kicks off in New York. While the rest of the fashion cognoscenti headed off in that direction, I went for my last hurrah of a relaxing weekend before my trip to Europe to cover the shows. And this time, that last hurrah took me to Thailand, courtesy of the lovely folks from the Thailand Tourism Authority and through the kindness of my dear friend Marbee. Off to Thailand I go, not to Bangkok, but to another city called Chiang Mai. This is actually the first time I’ve been to Chiang Mai and already I was left at a loss for words when I was brought to our hotel– to Dhara Dhevi.

I’ve stayed in so many hotels in the many years that I’ve been travelling, but I’ve never actually stayed in a hotel that had a beguiling mixture of a country’s rich history, architecture, and “soul” like Dhara Dhevi. I’ve heard of the resort some years back when it was still under Mandarin Oriental, but wow, never really did I thought of wanting to visit and stay in the resort as I had not really considered Chiang Mai as one of the destinations in Southeast Asia. Until today.

I watched the sun set over the resort and it was breathtaking…

More photos tomorrow including a virtual tour of the hotel. This is one resort that I would not hesitate coming back to again in the near future– that much I can tell you! And really, this was the perfect and much needed pre- fashion month break that I needed! 🙂 Meanwhile for a more comprehensive look at the resort, visit their website at www.dharadhevi.com
