TRAVELOG: Barneys New York in San Francisco

Sorry it took me longer to post photos of Barneys. I’ve been running errands with my aunt who’s here with us 🙂 Anyway, without further ado, Barneys New York finally parks itself in San Francisco! This building was the former location of FAO Schwartz– the upscale toy store of rich tots hehe.

Barneys’ window displayed clothesAnd jewelry
The one thing I can say about Barneys is, though the whole opening seemed rather lackluster compared to Bloomingdales’ opening (well I can’t really compare apples to oranges), and that Barneys as a whole didn’t really have that much stuff that appealed to me (well for starters, everything inside is too expensivo), I love the “store” for what it is. It exudes taste, luxury, and humor indeed (the very essence of what Barneys NY is all about)!

And there is definitely no shortage of jewelry– all the most amazing pieces too from these very talented artists and designers like Leu Locati, Sevan Biçakci. I am especially bowled over by Sevan’s work. The details are so amazing that you cannot not swoon over the pieces when you see them.

Sevan insect necklacefor US$11,980+ tax *sticker shock* (Thank goodness for I.Benjamin at Firma for that animal fix– prices there aren’t anywhere near this high *muwahaha*. Oh by the way, If you happen to go to Firma at Greenbelt or Trinoma, ask for the I.Benjamin pieces and tell me what you think 😀 *beams*)

A gorgeous ring also from Sevan (the stone is carved like an inverted intaglio)
After we spent something like 40 minutes “absorbing” the jewelry section, we moved onto the bags *naaatch!*

Ahhhh proof that Barneys is for the moolah’d. The presence of Valextra. In regular (well they’re not so regular. Think US$2k up) leather, and in exotics!! (Ok this brand is WAYYY out of my league).

Then there’s a glass case with Celestina minaudieres *wolfwhistle* mixed with Roberta di Camerino exotics. Of course this prompted DM to say to me with a straight face, “See, my old bags are in fashion again* You see, DM collected a few Roberta di Camerinos (She was to Robertas as I was to Goyards)… Hmm makes me want one haha. DM’s bags are vintage now and she won’t give ’em to me especially not after she saw her bags back on the shelf !! 😀

Then there’s the token Prada wall.Ombre bags here and there. (Baghags, thanks for telling me they’re called Ombre)

Barneys also carries Lanvin (bags and shoes)– I’ve to retake the photo… I accidentally erased it! *thwaps myself*

Hmmm I wonder though, where were the Bea Valdes bags? ‘Coz I didn’t see any. The 2nd floor (more like a mezzanine) featured shoes, the 3rd floor had all these beautiful (and predominantly black) clothes. 4th floor had more clothes for the younger celebutantes and some pieces from Top Shop. The 5th floor was men’s (or it seemed like it), but we didn’t go all the way up there anymore. We took the staircase to go up although there are elevators in the back of the store.

Barneys New York in San Francisco is a fine gem and a wonderful addition to the city. I will not buy my bags there, but I’ll definitely keep going back to ogle at their jewelry. They have the most extensive (and more importantly, unique) collection in this side of town– that’s my opinion 🙂

Alrighty, next blog I’ll feature Bloomingdales 🙂

P.S. I have a new “gadget” that I can’t seem to get to work which is also why I already have to bid you adieu– I am a sucker, I got myself an iTouch after an Apple SA showed me how the thingie worked while I was at the Apple Store. I got blinded by how sleek it looked and how packed with features it was compared to my Nano. *Pout* I have NO idea how to work with it NOW especially since DH isn’t with me on this trip. I don’t even have an updated iTunes to begin with. So of course the damn thing doesn’t work with my Mac and it doesn’t sync at all. I’m still sorta trying to figure this all out. *Screaaaaam*. Anyway if I get pissed, I’ll just send this damn thing back hahaha. So much for modern technology easing the way things get done. This iTouch is so darned complicated, how can it POSSIBLY make me a happier camper?! *grumbles big time* Ugh. The very words of a technologically challenged baghag hahaha.

  3. Woohoo, i see you got yourself a new toy! Are you having trouble with the screen? A lot has been complaining that it’s dark (especially when compared to the iphone)and is lacking in details. I read in Yahoo that Apple admitted to this error but i’m not sure what they’ll do about it or if there’s going to be a recall. So maybe it is wise if you send it back. Pero kainis if you got all excited about it na. LoL!

Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay here.

  4. Hi Mrs. T,

Hope you continue to have a blast in SF!

1st time I heard of Valextra was last week when I was watching my TIVOd episode of Martha Stewart’s show. Bags were one of the topics of the day and she had her daughter Alexis on who happened to have a Valextra. If i recall correctly, even Martha wasn’t familiar with the brand and showed “surprise” when Alexis said that her bag was $5800. Martha said that she purchased her Hermes (the one she toted during her trial) in the 80s for $1200.

Just thought I ‘d sare that with you.
