Too Much Red Tape?

Am I correct in assuming that the local government is expecting the NDCC to clean up the mess left by Ondoy? If it’s the NDCC, I’m sure they’re already up to their ears in finding ways to get to everyone. Could that be the reason why victims from Taytay floodway, Payatas, Cainta, Karangalan Village, Suburban Village, have not really been getting the help they’ve been requesting? (Photo credit: Inquirer.net)
I was also told by one of our employees that her home in Taytay Floodway has rising floodwaters again– this afternoon! Could this be caused by waters released from the dam? Worse, one of our employees’ sisters apparently saw people being swallowed up by open manholes in the flood- stricken areas! 🙁 *Open manholes?? Where did the covers go?*

Can someone please explain to me who is supposed to be responsible in ensuring that help goes out to these folks? Our friends have already been able to reach some of the areas and were able to distribute relief goods, but apparently (I was told), no representative from the local government has showed up yet (as of early this afternoon). Is this the job of the NDCC or the officials behind the city (or municipality) of Rizal, Marikina, and other flood- striken cities?

In any case, here’s something to look forward to– according to Inquirer, “At the House of Representatives, Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga filed Resolution No. 1433 urging his 268 peers to shell out at least P1 million each from their pork barrel as their contribution to relief and rehabilitation efforts for the victims of Ondoy. Each lawmaker gets P70 million as priority development assistance fund (PDAF) every year.”

But then you have this: “… Speaker Prospero Nograles proposed that the representatives fork out only P20,000 each as their contribution to the relief efforts.” (from Inquirer)

Sorry, I could no longer contain my political frustration. This is really such a mess… I love my country, but hate that there is so much bureaucratic rigmarole 🙁

P.S. On a happier note, I wish to thank our friend LPT from Texas, who has sent in a $100 donation for Ondoy victims @ Alay ng Puso! Which brings our Fabella Fund back up to Php 543,250. THANK YOU!!

  1. I got upset with that comment too Mrs. T. Its such a shame this people are Filipinos. My heart bleeds out for the people affected. I have friends and family who lost a lot, in our case, we can replace what was taken by Ondoy but what about the people who absolutely have nothing and will have to start from scratch? Makes you think what kind of government officials we have, such such hypocrites!

Honestly I have stopped all my shopping sprees, I am too affected by the situation. I told myself I will do what I can when I get back to Manila.

Thanks and more power to your blog. Don’t mind the negas out there, they simply can’t keep their opinions to themselves. Makes you wonder why they go to your blog anyway.

  2. Hey Mrs T,

Finally figured out the Paypal thing…Wow, I’m really behind the times. 😀

I completely empathize with your frustration at the local government. You’d think that as leaders of a country that they would have more sensitivity to their countryman’s needs. Filipinos need them now more than ever and this is all they can do? As a leader, you are representing and ensuring that the needs of your people are met. Your daily mantra should be the country before your own. I understand that there are certain protocols that have to be followed but that hardly counts as an excuse.

It certainly boggles the mind. 🙁

My prayers to everyone affected by Hurricane Ketsana.

  3. Our government officials sucks. Don’t they have empathy? I saw in the news that the president and the vice president are going to contribute their 2 months worth of salary for the emergency funds (not sure). 2 months? That’s too little! Shame on you! I too love this country but I hate our government, which really makes me think should I still vote on the next elections? Would it make any difference? I’m losing hope.

  4. Disgusted with public officials and their spending and all that when there’s no calamity and now suddenly you hear nothing from these people and only appeals of help by the poor. Where are these officials? Perhaps out saving their own house, expensive cars, jewelrys, and crocodile birkins. I am ashamed to call myself a Pinoy because all other nationalities look down on us for exactly this reason– we have corruption and nothing is being done.

  5. Dear Mrs T, thank you for using your blog as a tool in moving all of us to action. I appreciate your proactiveness and concern for those who were affected. Thank you also for your efforts and the work you’ve put into collecting donations. It’s nice to see that your blog isn’t limited to only things about fashion and designers but it can also be used as a powerful instrument for worthy causes.

  6. Nograles is something else! I dont know from what or where he came from. Theres just so much greed in his system (or maybe stupidity).

I know his family personally and Ive seen the wealth they have amassed since he came to office (especially when he became house speaker).

    D.M.

  7. @ avywuvy: God bless. Hope all is well with you.

@ browneyedgirl: Thank You also for the continued support.

@ MaryD: THANK YOU SO MUCH! Re: Government, hay it is frustrating 🙁 Calamity funds are apparently empty now. Can’t believe the coffers are wiped out. 🙁 And another storm is coming and hitting Northern Luzon.

@ Appledumplings: I hear you right there. I feel exactly the same way. Sad, isn’t it? 🙁
