Thebaghag’s Life Update + Bag CSI!

Hey peeps! Sorry I’ve been sooo remiss with my blogging! Heck I’ve even been remiss with yoga! Hehe… I didn’t show up for class for a good week, so when I finally attended again, my body was so weak. I couldn’t even get myself to do all the yoga positions without sitting down! So yes, it was THAT bad. It was actually something I shouldn’t be bragging about at this point, because I looked so pathetic then *like a panting dog that has been wandering in the desert without water for a whole day or two*. At that point in time while I was doing yoga, I even contemplated on using a few almost- decent excuses to the yogini master to “excuse” myself and leave the ongoing class! *Muwahaha oh boy, not good to confess like this…*. But oye, give this baghag some credit, I stayed behind and finished the class!!!! *Beams*

There were a few consolations to not having done my yoga though (MY Gawd, look at me, already justifying why I shouldn’t attend yoga! Tsk). For starters, I was bold enough to eat lunch on my own, solo, for the first time in years (in Manila anyway). Hahaha. I have no friends!!! *Bawl*. I ate at Pho Hoa. Ordered this 🙂Meatballs pho, large Pho Hoa iced tea!! Ate ALL that!! *Gulp*

Second, I was finally able to meet the lady behind StealThatLook.Com, and got the chance to dine again with ManilaFashionObserver at my fave restaurant, Sala. 🙂 These 2 ladies are so pretty and slim, and I swear, they made me rethink going to yoga on a more regular basis (hahaha.. ok ok, I will be more dedicated haha.. now don’t anyone tell anything to my instructors now… Or they won’t respect me anymore *not like they do anyway since I sat through class most of the time hahaha*).

Woohoo, short-lived excitement *hahaha*: I got an invite to the Members Only Embassy pre-opening party, but bah, I ended up not going because I wanted rest. That plus I’m too old to go clubbing/ partying. That plus I have no money in my wallet (much less any money to buy me a 1 year membership… although I think I can freeload… or not hahaha). That plus I can’t fit into any of my nice “nights out” clothes. That plus I had to wake up real early the next day (but I woke up late anyway haha). Maaaan. I’ve officially crossed over to the Older Matronics Club. I can’t fathom hanging out with young ‘uns (think LaGreta’s daughter hehe) and their jawdroppin’, kick-butt designer bags anymore *Wails* I’d be so insecure hahahaha. So there.

Anyway, again I’m sooo sorry for not having blogged. I never left town *haha although I wish I could say I was in Paris for a week… Riiiiight*. But I’ve been so preoccupied with so many activities, with my hubby’s grandma passing away + her funeral, school registration and tuition fee payment of my kids (take note, last minute registration for kids, etc haha). See, I’m not only delinquent with my blogging, I am also a delinquent parent. And let’s not even mention that I’ve been a delinquent credit card bill payer *Muwahahaha* (Gawd, why do I always have to be so broke, and more importantly, why am I such a compulsive spender? *SOB…* Oh it’s to make up for a face only a mother could love *muwahaha* You gotta love my self deprecation… Hello Mrs.T, do we have some issues with our self-esteem? *checks with a shrink*) 😀

Ok, now for the real cheese. I was sent an email by a lovely baghag and she wanted to ask for my opinion on her LV Speedy. She had sold her bag to a friend some 3 weeks ago, and it was only today that she receives an SMS from her friend, asking her to refund the payment for the bag she had bought. Why? Because she claims that there was a “gash” underneath the bag that she didn’t see until today. Three things ran in my mind when I saw the photo. 1. This is a gash that could not possibly have been “missed” because it’s actually too big to ignore. 2. There is no way the bag gash was the result of some kind of an “accidental” brush with a sharp object. 3. Is it actually possible that she didn’t “inspect” the bag thoroughly when she paid for the bag? I mean if it was my money, I’d make sure that I am getting a perfect (or near perfect, if it’s a preowned bag) item, right?

See for yourself. *Shock* What do you hags think?

Hehe… Ok so I did a serious test with my own LV bag– my Murakami at MOCA Neverfull. I tried using a pair of my scissors (which I use to cut wrapping paper and ribbons) to poke the bottom of my bag *I know, I know, I was about to murder my bag, but I had to do it because inquiring minds want to know! That plus I know that the LV canvas isn’t made of some thin material!*. I noticed one thing immediately– the LV canvas CANNOT be easily damaged/ slashed. The tip of a sharp knife or a cutter would’ve done the job of piercing through the canvas with some applied pressure, but definitely not with a regular pair of scissors. That gash looks like something a “slasher”/ thief could’ve done to try taking the wallet out of a bag. But then again, the bag canvas IS thick. You need to intentionally puncture the bag (with force) before you can produce a gash like that. It’s no accident.

Baghag C’s in a bind, so let’s do some of our “investigation” here. Your thoughts are well- appreciated. Any theories for the bag? (That’s serious injustice to a beautiful bag! *fuming*)

P.S. I’m so grateful for the chance to have hung out with MC and ML. Here’s MC’s bag, one of the most beautiful Hermes birkins I’ve ever been privileged to see. A caramel colored chevre leather 35cm beauty– a most rare combination at that! MC and I had a real funny encounter with a lady who happened to see MC with her beautiful “grail” bag. She exclaimed, “I have that same exact bag, as in exact bag!”. MC and I were both literally too stunned for words as she proceeded to tell us that she had “purchased it at Duty Free Shop and they even delivered it!” I was flabbergasted. I never even knew there was a Duty Free Hermes outlet that would sell a birkin! Not even the Paris Charles de Gaulle airport had Hermes birkins! So when I prodded the lady to tell us where she got the bag, she didn’t remember where. *Too bad, ML, if you were there, you would’ve probably been able to extract which Duty Free Shop this lady bought her “same exact bag” from* Hehehe… Ok now, someone out there! Tell me which Duty Free would sell Hermes birkins! Use your connections, peeps! Ask around! Telll meeeeeeee!!!! (*Hmmmm… Bright Idea!* As soon as we find out which Duty Free would sell Hermes birkins, I’d announce it here. Hopefully a league of Hermes birkin die hards *who have the moolah to spend* would fly out and buy one for me… hahaha my birthday’s coming up hahaha.. Benefactors are most welcome! I am not an ingrate, I will give due credit to whomever gets me one… hahaha!)

P.P.S. Might I recommend a laptop bag please? Unless you already got yourself a MacBook Air and will only need an envelop to carry your laptop, I found that the Goyard Ambassade is an excellent choice for a laptop bag! It can fit a MacBook OR a MacBook Pro! I am sooo happy with my new loot (which I actually NEEDED more than wanted… seriously). My old laptop bag almost died on me a few days ago, and I was glad that this Ambassade arrived in time for the long overdue retirement of my old black one (yes, I have a black laptop bag which I used for 2 years too! Nondescript and very functional :D). Here’s a photo of my new computer carry case 🙂 Pink Goyard Ambassade with hand- painted brown Skull-crossbones. (Sorry photo blurry… I must’ve done something to the camera setting.. too sleepy now to bother tweaking it again) Gotta love this bag– it’s light and has pockets inside to accommodate the charger and some cables. *Sorry I had to brag! Allow me this one last brag hahaha… This is my last bag purchase for the year 2008! Hahaha.. I will learn to keep my word this time!!*

Ok now, seriously I need to sign off. More bag reviews soon, and I will get some questions answered as well. Promise!

  1. i am so jealous. you have a skull on your new bag. i thought they said they dont allow that anymore. WAAHH!

    Congratulations to your new purchase.

  2. LV canvas is very durable. It’s soo obvious that rip was deliberate. It looks too ‘perfect’ to me. I’m sure they used a box cutter.

  3. mrs t! belated happy aniversary to tresorie and advance happy birthday to you!!! soo busy with work I missed reading your blog! your goyard laptop bag is gorgeous!

    cgr =)

  4. I know one of Hawaii’s airports (or is there only one?) sells Birkins or sold Birkins!

  5. that speedy looks intentionally mutilated to me. don’t know why anyone would do that, though, anyway, gotta love the goyard ambassade. the skull-crossbones thingy makes it even better.

  6. hi mrs. t, so glad to ‘read’ you again. i’ve been checking everyday. yeah! everyday. ;D
about the speedy, hmm, i agree, it was a deliberate slash. and it’s something someone couldn’t possibly overlook, be it the seller or the buyer! and to the buyer friend “DUH, gurl! seriously? after 3wks?! that’s when you claim to notice the ‘gash’? and even if you buy at the shop itself, don’t you inspect a bag thoroughly before purchasing?” i guess that’ll be the end of their friendship. *tee hee* (sorry)
anyway, i LOOVE your pink goyard mrs. t! as always, i love your bags. ;D

  7. found a lime green kelly in duty free saipan. i just dont know if they sell birkins…:)

  8. tell your friend NOT to refund that girl for the speedy. She just might be a scammer.

  9. SAIPAN??? There’s a duty free shop in saipan that has birkins? 🙂 haha… I gotta do research… Or wait, hawaii? That’s actually a more likely place. Who knows someone in Hawaii that can do the fact checking :D?

Re: mutilated speedy, That’s exactly what I thought. There’s absolutely no way that person overlooked a gash that big when she first got the bag. Methinks too that it was intentionally done… buyer’s remorse perhaps! Sad!!

Re: Ambassade, I love the bag– it’s not fashionable but heck it’s tres functional. I wish I can get a long strap for it though…

  10. mare( can i call you mare? lol) i don’t think you can buy a birkin in any of their duty free shops. I was told that they don’t carry it there. i tried calling around few duty free shop but i got the same reply, “no sir we don’t carry it here” sir? yes i’m a sir..LOL..
    heart.. heart.. heart your blog..

  11. Daph: yes it’s a good bag 🙂 The color is actually too bubblegum pink for me so I had to juxtapose it with a brown skull-crossbones. Pink’s not really me– pinks that pure are for lil angels 😀 *hehehe obviously I’m not one in the literal, much more in the figurative sense hehe*

  12. Hi Mrs. T! That cut looks far too clean (no jagged edges??) and too big to be an accident. It has all the hallmarks of a deliberately-inflicted “wound”. Quite unthinkable for the buyer not to have noticed it upon purchase; the first thing ANY buyer does is turn the merchandise around and peek into the inside to examine it thoroughly.

Re: Birkins at the airport, the very nice lady who was attending to me at the Changi airport mentioned that they don’t get Birkins at the Duty Free there. So that lady you mentioned must have been extremely lucky;) [On the other hand, I spotted obviously-fake LVs being sold at one of the souvenir shops of one of the domestic airports:)]

  13. Mrs T, she could have bought the Birkin in the DFS Galleria mall in Guam. There is an Hermes boutique there. That’s the only one I can think of. Otherwise it sounds like a Fake Alert!

  14. Hi Mrs. T! I agree with BB…….

Anyhoo, speaking of Goyard, I’m planning on getting the Louis PM. Any color recommendations for a fist Goyard? I’m torn betwwen either black or white. TIA 🙂

  15. Ive been wanting to buy an Ambassade and use it as a laptop bag but i was hesitant because im afraid the weight of my macbook would deform the bag, like it did with my prada (the weight of the laptop sort of weighed down the bag). i assume it the leather of the ambassade is more sturdy and harder? would u know where i can get one?

  16. yes ms t. there is an hermes store in DFS Saipan. DFS in Saipan is very big and caters to japanese tourists…i even have a pic near the limegreen kelly since hanggang dun na lang makakaya ko ang mag pa pic sa window na may kelly…hehe!

anyway, love ur blog..i check it everyday…i live vicariously thru you….mabuhay!!

  17. That speedy was definitely slashed! Asking for a refund after 3 weeks? Oh come on, even stores only have a forty eight hour rule for exchanges or returns. AND that does not count accidents and mutiliatations.

    Possible scenarios:
    1. Someone tried to slash the buyer when she was out shopping but she did not know (slashers are skillfull).
    2. If she never used it out in public (why would you then buy a bag?)perhaps she realized she had other debts to pay and needed cash ASAP so she slashes it and demands a refund due to defects.

Whatever the cause– DO NOT REFUND. Go to the police if you want and have it blottered if she is fighting you about it but definitely do not give her money back. It is her duty to inspect the bag before buying!
She may be a friend but if she is trying to make you take the fall for her flakiness you are better off without her.

  18. the friend could’ve carried the bag somewhere that is not safe, must have felt really bad when it was slashed open by a thief, especially since the bag was newly acquired. so she could’ve passed it off as product defect so she can have her money back.

i guess we should carefully document the items being sold even to friends, this can prevent broken friendships later on.

  19. Hi Mrs. T, I love reading your blogs, more specifically I love your bag purchases.
…In line with your topic, could you give us tips on how we can sell our pre-owned bags without having to go through the experience of a complaint. Thanks

  20. Oh no Mrs. T!

Your Ambassade is the stuff bag nightmares are made of! BEEYOOTIFUL!!

Fell off my chair. Too pretty!

  21. The exact same thing happened to my LV monogram Noe more than a decade ago. I was in Bangkok and there was an attempt by a pick pocket and he slashed my bag 3 times! I only realized this when I was already in my hotel room. Maybe the buyer was a victim of a bag slasher/pick pockets and only noticed the damage much later.

  22. sad mutilated speedy…

mrs. t, baka we need to have your promise (goyard last bag purchase) notarized since its only june and the autumn bags well are still in autumn (kung may autumn nga dito)… mahirap magsalita ng tapos…hahaha

btw, sale ang prada sa gb4 but you got the fairy bag naman…

  23. hi dear, now you know how i feel about designer bags (harhar) but i’m actually finding myself coveting your laptop bag. it’s pink AND it has skull and crossbones?! TOO. CUTE. and of course, i also know that it’s actually quite functional from our goyard tutorial. *sigh*
