Thebaghag comfortable among animals

We kicked off the start of the long weekend by heading over to Avilon Zoo with my family. Avilon Zoo is about 1.5 hours away from Makati (sans traffic). My kids and I love Manila Zoo, but it didn’t seem like a fun place to go to now (unlike before), with all that construction going on. Besides, the animals there don’t even seem like they get taken much cared of anymore– which is a very sad observation, because the city of Manila should be doing something about that. Children love going to zoos, and like them, thebaghag is very comfortable in the company of animals and feels very at home at any zoo *hehee*. So I was really disheartened and rather disturbed when I heard a rumor that Manila Zoo was going to be torn down. I hope this isn’t going to happen. The animals there are displaced enough 🙁

Anyway, last week my DB (who loooves animals) felt that the kids should already “graduate” from Manila Zoo, and move onto the Avilon Zoo. So it was a good day to go over there today since the kids were all on “vacation”. So I decided to take a day off *hahaha day off* from work as a sales lady *woohoo, yes that’s my job, and proud!* to go with the kiddies and hang out with my fellow animals 🙂

I originally thought it was 7-Eleven and Mini Stop. Haha they spoofed those 2 stores and lumped them together in one place! *But oh dear, this is a lawsuit waiting to happen, no? tsk tsk.. it’s funny though :)* Across this mini “stuff” store is the marker that Avilon Zoo is near.

The sun showed itself by the time we got to the zoo, and holy cow this baghag was sweating buckets (and half heartedly hoping that she’s losing weight as she felt the sweat beads trickling down the path of Fabio’s home *hahaha facial tsunamiiiiii!!*). We saw quite a bit of crocodiles in this zoo (actually this zoo is so rich in crocs!)

An albino snake (hmm wait, is the snake albino?! Most albino snakes I’ve seen are quite cream-yellowish)… or is it a purely white snake? Don’t ask me the name (err name as in species/ classification) of this guy, I’m terrible at remembering names, really. But I do know this: He’s gorgeous!!

Then there were torts (tortoises) which were probably just half the true size of their Galapagos counterparts, but no matter, these dudes are huge! (Psst, RG, will your torts in your home get that big???)

And then of course, there’s the uber poisonous King Cobra. This name I know. I cannot not know. The snake was staring at me (or staring at pulsating Fabio) and was in attack position! Hahaha. Crap, see, not even a King Cobra could intimidate Fabio. *scowl* OOh Ooh speaking of Fabio, it’s totally serendipitous. I was talking to my brother about Fabio when poof, I ran into the svelte AS– the GodMum of Fabio! *Muwahaha* She and her family were also there at the zoo*!! It was hilarious! I guess Fabio is going to stay a few more weeks in my prime location… or oh dear, it could be months *noOooOooO*!!

Then there’s the majestic peacock. The colors of the peacock remind me of the abalone nacre (is that what it’s called? Nacre right? Someone correct me).

There are lions too, and their “pen” is something that looked like it came out of Universal Studios (think Jurassic Park),

Oh, here’s Jerry, the park’s best dressed orangutan 🙂 He is so friendly, posing photos and even smiling and hugging visitors!! He’s soooo cute!!

Eagles (not the band) 😀 A very handsome bunch of predators, non?

And a majestic looking Jaguar. He looks like a real healthy Jaguar. It would’ve been sad to see a beautiful feline looking gaunt and malnourished, right? This cat is perfection. Beautiful. Just what a jaguar should look like 🙂

I thoroughly enjoyed the day with the family. The park owner, who actually is friends with my DB, mentioned that they will be getting in zebras soon. I’m already excited. More animals. And they’re continuing to build inside the park, adding more edifices (for vet school even!). They also breed animals at this zoo, so it’s not only about showcasing animals, it’s really all about preservation too.

If you have kids, AVILON ZOO is a place that you might want to visit, especially if you’re already tired of gallivanting in the malls 😀

Oh and I know this has nothing to do with Avilon Zoo, but well, the road there was mucky and muddy, and well when I got home, I was looking for a nice pair of shoes for the car (well sorta like driving shoes) *what’s the relation between the muddy road, the car, and the shoes?! ok, beats me! But I just had to mention some kind of connection there hahaha*, and so I typed “car and shoe” and poof, this came out as one of the search results 🙂

Carshoe Flap Bag. I like this bag. A lot. Style wise, it doesn’t really have a lot going on, but it does have enough detail for you to notice it. I don’t care much for the tassels though, but the bag is all good for me. At US$1,325 this bag is a good deal already. I wish it came in a brighter color! Available at neimanmarcus.com

Have a good long weekend hags!
