The Democracy of Luxury!

So, was everyone well- rested after that weekend? 🙂 I sure hope so, because the holidays are just around the bend and they’ll surely be tiring you out, what with friends and relatives from out of town coming in to visit. *Oh gawd, there goes all of our diets haha– both food and bag diet of course!*

Sigh… I am still reeling from the “thud”of reality actually, that a year has once again passed. Yes, one that will go down as the year where the average entry- level designer bag price skyrocketed to US$1,350 as its low. 2007 is the year when people realized how luxury got democratized. Luxury goods’ old guards are not happy that luxury has become so “readily available”, but for the average peeps like me, I am grateful for the democracy. After all, we deserve a slice of that luxury pie too, one that was for the longest time, reserved for the society’s elite. It is already a given that luxury (or a whiff of it) is enough to send many into a dizzying spiral of satisfaction– and yes, begrudgingly we must admit, we have succumbed to the sins of materialism. But it’s also not our fault anymore, what with a plethora of beautiful (and expensive) things surrounding us lately *hehe ok so we’ve grown delusional in that we make excuses for our purchases– haha that it’s no longer our (consumers) fault*. “Need” and “want” have inexorably become one and the same. “I need that bag” vs “I want that bag”. Think about it– have you said that to yourself lately? I’d be a total hypocrite if I denied having used that line in the last few days *muwahaha*. Besides, it’s almost December– hello, the month where you reward yourself with all the hard work you’ve done over the last 11 months of the year? *hehe another excuse to buy a new bag*

Would you turn back on these (if you don’t have them already)??

Louis Vuitton Damier Speedy 30. With the weakened US$, having a relative/ friend in the U.S. is just dandy (hehe I haven’t heard that word in ages…dandy). This oft-sold out bag is available in the best size at eluxury.com as I type this. For US$620 *+tax where applicable* (that’s less than our US$1,350 entry level mark even! Wooohoo for democracy deluxe haha), you can happily tote this classic “keeper” to ring in the new year. And for those who live in the Philippines, you can get this at the only LV boutique in town– Makati Greenbelt 4 🙂 *help the economy a bit hehe*

Bottega Veneta Mustard Intrecciato Hobo. First off, the Bottega hobo is a must-have if you are a Bottega fan. The leather is soooo soft and supple. The style of this bag is already a classic piece in the BV collection, and wow, in this color? It’s a go! Priced at US$1,490 *+tax* at saksfifthavenue.com

Oh dear! Gucci and racing stripes have been like coffee and cream for quite some time now, but this Joy bag, I daresay looks so Goyard, doesn’t it? 🙂 And only US$640 too! Interesting price tag indeed!

Who wants Prada when Miu Miu is around, is cheaper and is just as fantastic? This Miu Miu Nappa patch bag has that Louis Vuitton Olympe line feel to it. Patchwork on this bag is beautiful, plus I am liking the strap. Priced at US$1,155 at saksfifthavenue.com

Oh boy, so many more days before Christmas, and so many more bags to choose from!
I’ve only just begun 🙂 Let me gather my thoughts and categorize bags in the next few days by the budget. I’ll toss in some other bags that I find during my gallivants as well.

It’s really the most wonderful time of the year 🙂 Can you imagine how it would feel if luxury wasn’t democratized? We’ll spend our Christmas ogling at bags we’ll never even be able to touch or see in person– again, no need to buy, but a whiff of luxury is all it takes to get that high 🙂
