Ruffa Mae Quinto and the Million Peso Bag

Heard recently at Rockwell (conversation in Tagalog): “Oh my God, did you watch the show where Rufa Mae Quinto talked about her One Million Peso Bag?” (Rufa Mae Quinto is a Philippine actress)

I turned around. These two women were candidly talking about a handbag. Of course I had to eavesdrop hehe (Tsk shameless Mrs.T). The younger woman noted that the bag was a Hermes birkin. The other woman who has not heard about Hermes and birkins, asks “Bakit, may mga brilyantes ba ang bag ni Rufa?” Translation: Why? Are there diamonds in Rufa’s bag?”

I had to stifle a laugh (I looooved the way she asked the question! She was too cute!!). So here’s the real cheese about Rufa Mae’s bag and that hefty price. (This post is for those who don’t know about the bag yet 😀 But I figured most of you reading this would probably already know by now :D)

A Hermes 35cm- sized birkin in regular leather would set you back by US$10,000 if you can get one at the Hermes boutique. If you get it at resale price, it’s approximately US$11,000.

A Hermes crocodile (porosus) birkin in 35cm costs very close to US$40,000 (yes, you can feed an army with this bag :D). Porosus crocodile bags are VERY expensivo *wolfwhistle* They’re the top-of-the-line leather at Hermes.

A Hermes 30cm birkin in Ostrich would set you back by about US$16,000. So if it’s a 35cm, it should cost somewhere around US$20,000 (definitely below US$25k). This price is reflective of the recent price hike.
Rufa Mae’s
birkin is an orange ostrich like this bag below. I was told that she even carried the orange wonder bag to her U.S. embassy visa procurement appointment 😀 So I think it is safe to say that her bag is worth One Million Pesos, with the dollar/ peso conversion. *PS I still think she needs to get rid of one of her fake LV bags… remember? Hehehe bad, I never forgot thatOk ok I’m being mean 😀 She must have gotten that fake LV bag as a gift. From whom, I don’t wanna know. Tsk.

Have a nice day, peeps!!

  2. hi mrs. t!!

    you are the only one I know who is an expert in bags. i would be purchasing my first chanel bag in hong kong next week, I was wondering, what would be a better choice for my first chanel bag? a black grand shopping tote or a large black flap bag in caviar with silver hardware?

    also, i heard they had a price increase recently, can you give me an estimate of the prices of the two bags?

    thank you so much!! i really looove your blog!! =)

    joanne =)

  3. marc jefferson: Actually ive seen the limited ed version which looks pretty much like that, except for the color difference, and I’ve frankly never seen that particular style before. 😉

    getitright: Please email tresormakati@gmail.com

    beautifulthings: hahaha I know, right?

    joanne: the classic flap’s more classic but you can put way more things inside the GST. So it’s really a matter of where and how you plan to use your bag 🙂 If you’re not a packrat like me, go for the classic flap. It’s something like HK$19k give or take for the classic flap. Tell me which one you end up with 🙂

  4. lol… i have a bag na may brillante.
